Christmas dress? Is this nice or horrible?

I have an idea to get a dress for Christmas Day, something warm/long sleeved that can be worn with thick tights. Not sequins/sparkles, more of a wholesome/Toast-esque look.

Have a low-ish budget and just saw this on Tu - can’t decide if it’s nice or really not...?

Any other ideas very welcome Smile

The patterned one is nicer Pink.

Oldraver · 01/12/2020 18:38

I like the first one but the Monki one is terrible

Though whe you said 'Christmas dress' I was expecting something with Christmas theme patterns I have loads

JaceLancs · 01/12/2020 18:57

I really like it even though it wouldn’t suit me due to my shape
Soft corduroy sounds perfect

IEat · 01/12/2020 19:11

I will be wearing my pj's Xmas eve, day, boxing day.. 🎄😂

PolloDePrimavera · 01/12/2020 19:34

I like both the Tu ones and I get where you're coming from re Toast. They're subtle and understated. I like Monki but not that dress, it's a shapeless sack of polyester and I'm sweating just looking at it.

CharitySchmarity · 01/12/2020 19:55

I don't like shirt dresses ^on me," but I love that fabric, and I think if the shape suits you it would be a great dress for Christmas.

BeepBoopBop · 01/12/2020 20:06

I've just ordered dress 1. Can soon liven it up a bit.

MynephewR · 01/12/2020 20:09

@pinklightatnight I've just ordered the red in the next size up, fingers crossed. There is a navy and red checked shirt dress as well which I don't like as much but I've ordered it. Worth taking a chance on it as I'm ordering the red anyway and can just return it if it doesn't look good on.

I don't like the asos dress you posted, too shapeless and a bit garish tbh.

Bluntness100 · 01/12/2020 20:10

I think as it’s cord it will be quite stiff, which will make it a bit little house on the prairie. I’m not a fan and think it’s quite frumpy and dull to be honest and must be the least Christmassy dress I’ve ever seen.

BigDipperMama · 05/12/2020 18:50

I really like that, it's like Seasalt but half the price! Every year I have ambitions of wearing something sparkly and floaty, but the cold always gets me and I wear something frumpy but warm (with apron!) This is warm and still looks like you've made an effort, go for it!

Splodgetastic · 05/12/2020 19:35

I love that Tu dress but even the model’s arse looks big in it!

CrotchBurn · 06/12/2020 07:05

Oh dear everyone's ordering it now, woll be gutted for OP if they go out of stock!

I like the first dress and think it looks more special in the black and gold

Chocolatechocolatechocolate · 06/12/2020 07:10

I like your first dress OP. I would belt it at the waist to give it a bit more shape

Beebumble2 · 06/12/2020 07:58

I’d go for the first one, probably because I’ve got one similar, different make.

dasey · 06/12/2020 08:38

It's got pockets!
Both tu dresses are lovely but the red smock one is awful. Smock dresses always hang like a sack of shite IMO.

Changi · 06/12/2020 09:45

I thought it might be labelled as frumpy
but please be honest

The first one is frumpy and the second one would look ok on a six year old.

DrDetriment · 06/12/2020 10:00

They are both very mumsy and sack like I'm afraid. The red one would make even a very slim person look enormous. I'm actually quite worried that most people on this thread think the dresses are nice!

Ditto!

Veronika13 · 06/12/2020 10:05

First one is awful - the pattern does nothing to compliment ANYONES skin tone. Frumpy.
Second one is like a huge tent - I’m sorry but how can anyone look at that and say something like: ‘it compliments your figure!’? It does NOTHING for any body shape.

The dark red checked one with a belt is much better - lovely, fitted a little at the waist. Not too long.

MargosKaftan · 06/12/2020 10:20

I like the first dress, but wouldn't wear it for Christmas day/event type thing.

But if its more your style, get it!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/12/2020 10:43

Have ordered the first dress - I have very average colouring (mousy hair and green eyes) and that sort of black with warming pattern suits me! Also it has a belt, so can’t be that shapeless.

That being said, there are a million shapeless dresses out there this season - lockdown fashion!
