Anyone got a Phillips lumea - is it worth it?

I’m thinking of ordering one of these. I have had laser hair removal on my face at a salon before and it worked but I need a top up and I would prefer to do it myself if I can- works out less expensive and I could also do my legs and under arms.
So what do I need to know, does it work and is it worth it?
My skin colour is white and hair is dark.

We have one and I'm fairly certain it says not for facial hair.
Its great for legs and underarms as long as you have fairy dark hair.
I love mine, but it takes a while to do each leg properly, then you have to make time each fortnight to do it.

I promoted lumea at one stage. While doing so I had one to use for demonstrations so used it on myself very generously, far more often than recommended. It was a complete waste of time for me but I had many purchasers tell me they were buying it because friends or family had great success with it.
Your hair/skin combination sound perfect. Let's put it this way, if it works for you it's worth it. I sold my mind for £60 on Gumtree.

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/11/2020 06:53

I’m thinking I might just on in the Black Friday sale. I just don’t know 😬

RNBrie · 27/11/2020 06:54

You can use it on facial hair. Just not eyebrows.

I think it's amazing. I do it once a month. I no longer have hair growing in my armpits or bikini line. I get a soft fuzz on my legs but they look and feel smooth.

I'm very pale with mousey coloured hair. Not very dark.

I bought mine second hand on a Facebook selling site Blush

Esspee · 27/11/2020 06:55

The older models were not to be used on the face. The newer ones can, and they have a rapid fire mode which means that you can cover an area quite quickly.

yelyah22 · 27/11/2020 06:56

I'm evangelical about mine, best thing I ever bought!

Glitterb · 27/11/2020 07:00

I have mixed thoughts on mine, whilst it has slightly worked, I don’t think it has outstanding sadly. I found if I epilated then used it I got the best results, however I find it incredibly painful on my armpits for some reason!

Black Friday will have some brilliant deals if you fancy getting one. I have a similar skin tone to you if that helps?

evenmoreforthemoor · 27/11/2020 07:04

It's great and does work but please don't use it on your face: I tried it and ended up with melasma over my top lip which lasted 3 years. I'm a twat Grin

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/11/2020 08:27

If you get the Lumea Prestige it comes with a facial filter so you can use it on your face without risking melasma. I have had some success with mine - very white skin, black hair.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 27/11/2020 08:31

The Braun IPL Silk Expert Pro 5 is the best. I've had both and it is much better. The results are amazing.

ashmts · 27/11/2020 08:44

I've had mine for almost a year and it's made a huge difference. I'm not hair-free even after a year but it's massively reduced the amount I need to shave. Armpits would go stubbly after about 12 hours and now I can go 2 or 3 days without shaving. Legs used to be stubbly after a day, now I can shave once a week and there are patches that are totally hair-free. I also suspect I have pcos as I do struggle with body hair.

I don't use it on my face though as I have some marks on my face and you can't use it on freckles/moles/birthmarks so can't comment on that.

JurassicParkAha · 27/11/2020 08:58

I've only had 2 sessions with mine and impressed that hair on legs, underarms and upper lip is greatly reduced already. I'm darker complexioned than you so it should work a lot better on your skin tone.

I'm epilating/waxing legs rather than shaving and it's worked fine so far. Best investment I've made!! Can't wait to see results after a few months. You need to do it regularly every 2 weeks though to get it all, then just maintenance every few weeks.

nbee84 · 27/11/2020 08:59

I've had the Boots version for about 4 years now - smoothskin gold. Used it religiously for the 1st year (think it was once a fortnight for the 1st 12 weeks and then once every 4 weeks) and the results are fantastic. I now do my underarms about once every couple of months. Legs and bikini line every 3 months or so. But any hair growth I have now is minimal and only I would really notice it. It's great being able to go the gym/swimming without having to worry about whether I've shaved or not.

JurassicParkAha · 27/11/2020 09:00

The biggest advantage to me has been lack of ingrown hairs. Those were bane of my life with any form of hair removal. But none with Lumea!

TheFlis12345 · 27/11/2020 09:07

Lumea is life changing. I used it on my underarms every 2 weeks for 10 weeks, 5 years ago, and the hair has never grown back since!!

That's so cool! May I ask how old are you for reference?

Interesting!!

It’s the price tag that puts me off. I would however be open to a generic version.

bruffin · 27/11/2020 09:49

Mine is ok on facial hair, in fact its brilliant!

TheFlis12345 · 27/11/2020 10:04

@skycloudwind I am 41.

DianaT1969 · 27/11/2020 12:35

It worked for me, but I got lazy. Will have to start the regiment over again. I have fair skin and dark hair.

OuiOuiMonAmi · 27/11/2020 12:50

Didn't work for me at all - I was very disappointed. I have the right combo of pale skin/dark hair, I followed all the instructions properly - it just did nothing.

idril · 27/11/2020 12:51

If you've had salon laser (proper laser rather than IPL), I think it works great as a top up. It has for me at least and is how I use it.

Used it from scratch on upper lip and it definitely slows the growth but doesn't eliminate it.

Namerchanger42 · 27/11/2020 15:14

Wow thanks! I’ve ordered the lumea advanced for £225. It does say you can use below the eyes ie facial hair. I was torn between this model and the prestige. I hope I made the right choice. It said the prestige was quite a bit heavier I struggle with arthritis in my thumb at this time of year so I thought the lighter once would be best. Hope I've mage the right choice.
I also got my legs waxed for years and it never made a dam bit of difference to slowing the hair growth and the ingrown hairs seem to leave a scar / mark as my skin in quite pale so I really hope this will work. I’m prepared to put the time into doing it!

Love mine, a game changer. It was weird in the summer to have 'bald' legs and underarms...a first for me.
