What would you wear with this skirt?

I’ve just bought this skirt www.next.co.uk/style/st612550/407902

I was expecting to hate it on me, but actually I really like it- I feel like an elegant ballerina! Even DH said it was lovely. So I’m going to keep it for Christmas.

I’m not sure what to wear with it though? I have a fitted (plain black) long sleeved top that might work. Any other ideas?

I’m early 30s, size 8-10, with pale skin and brown hair.

A champagne colour could work with that.

MichelleofzeResistance · 23/11/2020 21:48

Pretty!! Satin champagne top, I agree with Fortune

latheritup · 23/11/2020 21:48

I would go with black, keep it super classy!

hennersley · 23/11/2020 21:53

I think a black leotard top, maybe with a long mesh sleeve!

PatchworkElmer · 23/11/2020 22:46

Thanks so much everyone, I’ll get looking for options!

Fitted, fluffy jumper maybe with 3/4 sleeves.
As for colour I think aubergine. Though black will be easier to find and dressier.

Black top no question. Lovely skirt but I haven't worn one for at least ten years. Too much belly fat showing for me now lol.

cakeallday · 23/11/2020 22:56

That's lovely! I bought a similar one last year.

I wore it with a soft knitted jumper (quite short). I think a knit is a good texture to go with sequins. Doesn't make it look as if you're trying too hard - also lets the skirt do the talking!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/11/2020 22:59

I also think black, maybe with a it if a cut out e.g. choker neck or this

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/11/2020 23:00

Autocorrect obviously didn't like 'a bit of a cut out'!

MarthasGinYard · 23/11/2020 23:00

Black 3/4 leotard

Bubbletrouble43 · 23/11/2020 23:04

I'd go for a fluffy soft close fitting jumper in a deep classic shade, I was picturing a dark green

TheNewLook · 23/11/2020 23:06

Very pretty skirt. What’s the sizing like OP? True to size? I haven’t bought from Next in years.

SunshineYello · 23/11/2020 23:21

Black fine knit polo neck deffo! With ballerina flats; tres chic!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/11/2020 23:23

My “Christmas skirt” is a midi length gold sequinned one, but more tube/straight. I wear it with a plain black jumper - last year a black cashmere polo neck from M&S, the year before a black velour sweatshirt from Topshop. I am not very classy and wear 100 denier opaques and trainers (black leather Vejas or Stan Smiths) or DM monkey boots with mine. I like the contrast of fancy/not fancy.

SunshineYello · 23/11/2020 23:27

Ooh agree @Judystilldreamsofhorses was going to suggest you could also pair it with a leather jacket and biker boots, or denim jacket, white t-shirt and converse.

Christmasbiscuit · 23/11/2020 23:29

I'd probably wear it with a black cami tucked in, leather jacket and trainers but that's just my go-to with midi skirts.
A black polo and black heeled ankle boots would be nice.

Srictlybakeoff · 24/11/2020 00:05

Black fitted cashmere jumper

floofycroissant · 24/11/2020 01:19

this or this or this

StarlightLady · 24/11/2020 01:48

I’d go for a black or white fitted round neck short top which just about meets at the waist.

User258544 · 24/11/2020 07:49

Monsoon have some nice jumpers that would go.

StarlightLady · 24/11/2020 08:46

I have responded above, so excuse a lighthearted response too. What to wear with it? Knickers! Grin

minipie · 24/11/2020 08:52

Dark red is a good call especially for Christmas. Something slim fitting and scoop neck to go with the ballerina feeling Smile

Girlzroolz · 24/11/2020 09:11

I’d dress it down- so you get more wear out of it than just ‘Xmas party’.

Trinny Woodall (Trinny London) has just done a great little video (Insta & YouTube, I think) of how to get more mileage from sequins.

I’d be tempted to put long stretchy boots under it, with a white tee and an interesting jacket or cardi. Or a simple solid-colour long sleeved top and fab big earrings.
