If a 14-year-old girl wanted DMs for her birthday...

... what else would she like? DMs have been given by another relative, and I know she got some nice toiletries from Space NK. I'd like to not do a voucher as I did that last year. Any ideas?

This thread is so helpful and I'm going to draw on if I can't believe I haven't done this for all presents ever!

Very tempted by the Run and FLy dungarees but it's a risk... thinking I'm going to go for the Choose Love t-shirt (thanks @liger) and some Glossier balm

Should say:

This thread is so helpful and I'm going to draw on it again for Christmas and next year - also can't believe I haven't done this for all presents ever!

@LazyLucille

Some of this stuff is mega expensive, your niece is a very lucky girl!!
Yeah tbf some of this stuff is out of my price range, although nice! I'm thinking 40 quid but would go higher if it were joint for Christmas.

Vinyl seems to be making a comeback in this age group. Maybe a retro style record player?

Lookingoutside · 18/11/2020 21:56

Benefit make up. Particularly the Bad Gal mascara and eye liner.

WhistlersandJugglers · 18/11/2020 22:04

Can I hijack and ask @ThePlantsitter what the sizing of the Banksy hoodies are like. I know an arty teen who would love one.

Rollergirl11 · 18/11/2020 22:06

14yr old DD loves Glossier for lip balm/gloss, Toofaced eyeshadow pallet, Huda beauty stuff.

Urban Outfitters is the go to shop at the moment for all teens so sure she’d be chuffed with a voucher from there.

I’ve just bought DD the scentschool box that includes discovery set of their scents from Floral Street. Pretty good price at £24. Beautiful packaging, vegan ethical brand. Very cool.

I've noticed some girls this age are really into succulents, cacti in nice quirky plant pots, tapestries for their rooms (urban outfitters), chakra stones or other crystals, electric aromatherapy diffuser, string lights (wouldn't buy candles for their rooms to be honest), hanging plant pots, fluffy blankets, water bottles, cuddly cushions... Basically things that help them make their rooms a little oasis of calm.

SarahBellam · 19/11/2020 06:49

If you know her size how about a pair of vintage Levi’s. You can pick them up on eBay.

Nonagoninfinity · 19/11/2020 06:57

I think at that age a voucher for a cool vintage shop could be a good option. My daughter is hugely into her 90s grunge and dresses not too differently to how I did in my teens BUT I sometimes find it hard to predict what she'll like. She loves DMs and converse and band t shirts, check shirts etc but also has a passion for hugely clashing fabrics and styles - she's certainly experimenting and would be over the moon with a voucher to go wild in a vintage shop Smile

Something from Brandy Melville? My DD loves it thete

ShagMeRiggins · 19/11/2020 07:00

If she loves DMs I’m guessing she is into music. Find out her favourite bands and then get some of their merch, eg T-shirt.

Rollergirl11 · 19/11/2020 07:42

If she’s in to her music, lyrics, films or has a fave tv show you could try these personalised framed posters? DD has been covering these for a while and think will be on her Xmas list.

As long as she's a size 6.
BanningTheWordNaice · 19/11/2020 08:17

Glossier is a good shout, they have a perfume which is universally raved about.

FamilyOfAliens · 19/11/2020 08:23

I wouldn’t buy makeup unless you’re absolutely sure what she likes.

DD is very particular about what she puts on her face due to having sensitive skin and now that she’s older, only ever buys vegan / cruelty-free products.

ColumbiaAGroupie · 19/11/2020 08:27

A vintage style band tee?

Rollergirl11 · 19/11/2020 09:48

Very good point! As if teenagers need any other avenues to feel shit about their body shape. Something highly dubious about a company run by a man that solely targets waif-like teens! I’m glad that DD doesn’t buy in to that brand too much. And have you seen the queues outside their stores??! Crazy Confused

ThePlantsitter · 19/11/2020 09:48

@WhistlersandJugglers sorry I bought mine off Spitalfields market - I was just showing an example. Went down well though. I bought adult size 's' but I suppose that might not help since it's a different source!

Rollergirl11 · 19/11/2020 09:49

Sorry I thought I’d quoted the Brandy Melville comment above about having to be size 6!

TheSunIsStillShining · 19/11/2020 10:20

@Tweetypietwo

A checked shirt? My dsd is very tomboyish and loves a check shirt. Oversized denim jacket? Levis top/hoodie?
This is a blast from the past :) I had these as a teen in the early 90s I didn't think they were cool again
MadDoggoLady · 19/11/2020 12:01

Glossier hoodie

FlyingByTheSeatof · 19/11/2020 16:02

Good old fashioned cash £££ is always cool at that age to buy whatever it is they want.

My DD 13 and DS 15 would always prefer cold hard cash over something they're not that into esp as you're not sure what she actually wants.

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/11/2020 01:07

A Cameo? My DD requested a shoutout from a pretty niche singer so it wasn't too many $.
