Olaplex

After reading so much good stuff about Olaplex No 3 on here and in other places, I gave in and bought some despite it being ridiculously expensive. Well I used it for the first time yesterday and left it in for a few hours (wrapped hair up in a towel) before rinsing and shampooing and conditioning as usual and then leaving to dry naturally. I was expecting to be slightly more blown away as currently I can’t see or feel any difference at all. I’m underwhelmed so far......
To anyone who has used it, is it the kind of thing where you noticed straight away or did it take a couple of applications? Any tips?

Where did you get it from because there’s a lot of fakes about?

Pineapplemonkey · 08/11/2020 22:33

I got it from Allbeauty.com. I’ve had stuff from there before (usually perfume) and it’s been fine and is a long standing company (used to be Cheap Smells back in the day), I purposefully didn’t buy from Amazon in case of fakes!

Keep at it. After a while you'll realise that you're hair isn't breaking and splitting and dry on the ends any more. It's like keeping it at the freshly cut stage.

You won't notice anything if you're hair isn't damaged in the first place though.

beautifulmonument · 08/11/2020 22:45

I use it once a week and I've noticed that I can go an extra month or two between hair cuts because I don't get split ends. My hair is highlighted and Olaplex has completely transformed its condition. It is a long term thing.

Pineapplemonkey · 08/11/2020 22:50

I was hoping people would say it’s more of a long term thing! I’ll keep using it (it’s only 100ml bottle though so it won’t last THAT long!) and see if my thin/fine non-smooth long hair perks up a bit

I was underwhelmed by it and pretty much stopped using it. I then bought the recently released No 0 and used that plus the No 3 and it has transformed my hair. It makes it feel and look like silk. I know it involves spending more money on top of an already expensive purchase but it's well worth the investment.

lovelilies · 08/11/2020 23:39

My hair is bleached but short and in otherwise good condition.
The olaplex just makes it feel silky and not at all damaged. I only use a tiny about every 2 months or so

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 08/11/2020 23:47

Can you use 0 without the 3?

earsup · 09/11/2020 00:33

No.3 isn't a shampoo or conditioner..it works on hair bonds and molecules ?? Many users don't notice a difference in shine or bounce etc !

No one has suggested it is.

I too am underwhelmed however I'm persevering after overhearing a conversation whilst at the hairdressers last time. Another client had started to use it and was raving about it, they were agreeing with the hairdresser you really only need a little at a time. So maybe try using less of it? That's what I've started to do and it's ok but I'm going back to PK Elasticizer when I've finished it.

ChickSmile · 09/11/2020 15:57

All of them overrated IMo.

Wow conditioner I liked.

ChickSmile · 09/11/2020 15:58

Maybe I will try no “0” othering

ChickSmile · 09/11/2020 15:59

Meant to add !

doadeer · 09/11/2020 15:59

Sorry I was underwhelmed too. Didn't really notice much. I got it from space nk so not a fake.

EmmaStone · 09/11/2020 16:03

I have Olaplex ?1&2 done at the ahirdressers when I have my hair coloured, and then I (should) use 3 at home, I've not used it for almost a year, although I really should - I've got one unopened bottle. I think it's all about the combo of products?

Girlintheframe · 09/11/2020 17:42

I didn't rate it either. Used it for a good few months but I honestly noticed no difference. Maybe using the 0 with it helps?

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 09/11/2020 17:44

So frustrating how difficult it is to find something that works.

NoraButty · 09/11/2020 17:51

Try it without wrapping your hair in a towel. The towel probably sucked all the olaplex from your hair.

I towel dry, brush/comb through, apply olaplex spending a bit of time really rubbing it in, brush/comb through then either plait my hair or stick it in a bun. More often than not I don’t rinse until the following morning to get an extra deep fix.

Henneypenny7 · 10/11/2020 15:03

I used it for years and it did nothing then got the 1&2 done in salon and the 3 worked better

I love lots of the WOW stuff. The dream coat is very good.

What were you expecting with Olaplex? Lots of people have misconceptions, like thinking it’s a magical conditioning treatment.

I had 1 & 2 applied in salon which blew me away. My hair was thicker, healthier and shinier.

3 doesn’t do anything to the immediate condition of my hair. If anything, it makes my hair more frizzy/puffy. You do need to follow up with conditioner/masks.

I have used a combination of 0 & 3 twice now. My hair is more sleek after blow drying it but not much difference. 0 is a bit annoying to apply.

throwaway10000 · 10/11/2020 16:34

Also use a shower cap if you’re leaving it in for a while

Othering · 10/11/2020 17:31

I decant it into a spray bottle and apply it that way. It's much easier.

@Othering thanks for the tip, I did think it would work perfectly as a spritz !
