The perfect slippers: are they out there?

Requirements:

  • Not too cosy (I get really hot feet)
  • Supportive (feet and legs get quite achy by day’s end)
  • Pretty design in neutral colour (greens/greys, although I do love a splash of purple)
  • Budget up to £40-50 (cheaper if possible!)

Are they out there?! Struggling to find any that aren’t fleece-lined or something more for my nan’s age (I’m in my 30s).

Bump, anyone?!

They're a bit over budget - I got mine on sale last January - but otherwise I really recommend felt Birkenstock Boston clogs. I love mine - so comfortable, proper sole so can nip outside in them, can wear with thick wool socks if you want to be toasty and they make me feel like an off duty architect!

I'm a huge fan of Giesswein and Haflinger wool slippers. My current ones are Haflinger Everest and they're so comfortable - I love that there's some support on the footbed.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 08/11/2020 15:29

Thanks both! I had been looking at Birkenstock slippers, I just wish they came in more design options!

I discovered a Spanish slipper last year in my local independent shoe shop - Marpen. I have the 101 style I think it is. It's really comfortable, especially as I sometimes suffer with plantar fasciitis. I'm on my feet all day at work and these are great.

Mariposa123 · 08/11/2020 15:44

A second for Giesswein. Cosy but not too warm, and the boot style is very supportive

Mmmmdanone · 08/11/2020 15:48

I currently have some slip on outdoor shoes from Primark that I use. I just don't wear them outdoors! They are comfortable, not too cosy and rigid enough for good support. And very cheap!

madcatladyforever · 08/11/2020 15:49

I wear orthopaedic flip flops round the house from Amazon, very comfy with a really good arch support OR socks.

CatToddlerUprising · 08/11/2020 15:55

Misolin slippers from Amazon are meant to be great dupes for UGGs

ElspethFlashman · 08/11/2020 16:04

If you like the Boston clogs, look up the Birkenstock Papillio Boston ones.

Papillio is basically the "fashun" side of Birkenstock, I. E. patterned/cooler ones. But they're seasonal, so you may have to check on Amazon or other sites with older stock etc.

ElspethFlashman · 08/11/2020 16:06

"Zermatt" is another slipper style that Birkenstock do BTW. They have a felt upper.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 08/11/2020 16:19

I got some from M&S with instep support slide ons. these borg ones
I like these too nicer looking

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 08/11/2020 19:24

Thanks all, some great options. I also love these but could do without the fur trim www.thesmallhome.co.uk/collections/slippers/Womens+Mule-Slippers

I picked some up that I love slightly randomly in a sale. Pale grey isotoner ones, kind of like this:

www.totes.co.uk/mobile/details.aspx?pid=53354

Really good padded soles and proper backs and not expensive.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/11/2020 19:54

Mushulo slippers.

HeyLala · 08/11/2020 20:11

Try the sheepskin lined Arizona birkies.
They are fab. Warm and great support.

Also try Ugg's. Sheepskin lined are the best at regulating temperature

MollysMummy2010 · 08/11/2020 20:23

Sketchers with the hard sole

OhTheRoses · 08/11/2020 20:27

I wear Josef Siebel Betsy Clogs as slippers. Really good arch support, soft and comfy and not slipperish. Come in a selection of colours.

underthebed · 08/11/2020 20:36

I love Sheepers. Mine are so cosy. Their Lucky Dip option is really good value (although no good if you want a specific colour).

JeNeComprendsPas · 08/11/2020 20:53

I love these:

www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/shoes-sandals-boots/slippers/cuckoo-song-felted-wool-slipper-cobble.htm

Wool so possibly not super cool but proper soul, no fleece lining etc.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 08/11/2020 22:44

The Sheepers look quite similar to the ones I found, but a nicer price point! I also love the SeaSalt slippers, hadn’t thought to look there.

I bought these recently and I think they cover all your requirements. Really comfy, not too hot and not too old lady I think. I don’t seem to have taken them off in weeks!

VanGoghsDog · 08/11/2020 23:18

@AtLeastThreeDrinks

I need support and I got the Birkenstock ones, an older style from Amazon.

I do like them to wear but they're a bit ugly to look at!

wingsanddreams · 23/11/2020 18:24

I tried so many brands and settled on Uniqlo slippers as their soles don't collapse like a piece of squashed bread after a few weeks as other do.
