Black (puffer) winter coat

goingtogetthekids · 07/11/2020 13:53

I'm struggling to find a black long puffer coat for winter that I really like.
Right now i have bought this:

www.outdoorandcountry.co.uk/womens-barbour-international-lineout-quilted-jacket.html

And this:

www.superdry.com/womens/jackets

And really can't decide which one i like or do I really like either.
The first one looks better zipped up and belted and the second one looks much better unzipped (but obviously can't wear like this in the middle of winter).

Anyone have any other suggestions in similar price range?

The Superdry one doesn't link to just one coat? Which one did you order? They are popular, there are also some in Next and M&S.

I love the Uniqlo seamless long down - about £160 and excellent. Warm and waterproof. May be a bit plain for you? Has amazing reviews.

Sorry that's the one

Just tried them both on again, supedry seems warmer and slimmer on... but I've always been Barbour kind of gal

The Superdry one looks really lovely and stylish on the website, but the Barbour one has a belt so may look more flattering once done up.

I got a marmot one on amazon. Down filled and arm even at 0c on the beach!

Hi OP, I think the Barbour one looks too "old lady" with the belt and the gold. I think Puffer coats need to be super styled to look good (I wear them all winter and put a lot of effort into styling). I am about to buy another Superdry one to the one you listed - it is more A-line shape which I prefer as I am broad shouldered.
So, FWIW, I think you should always go "sporty" when you buy a puffer coat and not "country lady".

Hope this helps. BTW I am middle aged!

I got a Barbour quilted coat two years ago and it’s so gorgeously warm.

I agree. Much prefer the superdry one and really love the Arket one.
There was a similar thread on here last week OP with lots of links to long puffa offers. If you can hunt it out it would probably be very helpful.

@Burpeesshmurpees

Hmm my thoughts are that a belt is annoying. I took one back because it was no good undone. The belt would flap around and felt like it could fall out at any time. So personally I'd rather no belt
That's true. I'd find it annoying too

Thanks! So how would you style the superdry one? I'm probably not going to wear white trainers in winter, it gets cold here. I'm late 30s

I was mostly going to wear with these boots:

www.footway.com/gb/product/courmayeur-valley-yboot-black-earthybuck

But possibly also with these:

What's the view on these:

The first boots were the best. Those last ones are minging, sorry. I also liked the first coat though

Annasgirl · 08/11/2020 21:06

Both sets of boots look great. I would style with black or grey leggings and trainers on a cool dry day; I would wear leggings and thick socks with the boots on cold, wet days. I love looking at Pinterest for styling ideas.

I think it would also look great with cut off straight or wide leg jeans with the boots and a long dress with the boots.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/11/2020 22:15

I bought a long black coat from Next .
Hood, zip and press studs but dark grey not blingey silver .

I had to search through a lot because I didn't want feather/down inners

5oclocksomewhere · 08/11/2020 23:15

Me too £166

Husband did nth degree research and it came out tops apparently

5oclocksomewhere · 08/11/2020 23:16

Marmot that is (fail alert)

cujo · 08/11/2020 23:33

Rab deep cover parka?

user1497787065 · 10/11/2020 07:01

I loved my Barbour coat (linked), light but warm until it was described as 'old lady'.

Thanks Mumsnet

goingtoraintoday · 10/11/2020 09:24

I still like the Barbour one too.
I was going to return in this morning but now doubting it.

user1497787065 · 10/11/2020 09:51

I see the Barbour as timeless and classic.

JinglingHellsBells · 10/11/2020 11:58

Hate the Barbour one- sorry but it looks tacky with all that gold hardware.

I swear by Uniqlo- 90% down and really warm.

Depends if you want something super fashionable or warm. Lots of down coats are polyester filling or small % down and not warm
