Anyone wear trousers to work and manages to cover their ankles?!

So why do women's trousers have to stop above the ankle only to be worn with brogues or pumps meaning our ankles are freezing?

It's ridiculous, I want to wear socks and boots and not freeze. Does anyone know where I can find some?

All I can find is this....

Ebay is your friend. I recently bought a pair of full length trousers from there for work. I have really fat ankles so can't wear ankle grazers but plenty of people selling off their older styles on eBay. The pair I got were originally from Dorothy Perkins and they also have pockets so double trouser heaven!!

PlanDeRaccordement · 08/11/2020 09:42

Im short so I have to all my trousers tailored anyway. I just tell the tailor to make them the length I want. Then I wear men’s trouser socks and flats or ankle boots. To my mind all clothes should be gender neutral.

Sasuma · 08/11/2020 09:47

I think you just need to look for different shapes - bootcut, wider leg etc. Or straight leg with roll ups can work with ankle boots. The slim leg trousers will always be a bit shorter.

ferretface · 08/11/2020 09:48

I like this look and it usually doesn't bother me to have exposed skin there, in very very cold weather I might wear knee length tights/socks, in a thin denier and nude colour so it isn't obvious I'm wearing them. Ankle boots would also work depending on the style.

NerdyBird · 08/11/2020 10:06

I hate the cropped look too, not all of us are slender of ankle and impervious to cold. Thankfully my industry is towards the casual side of dressing so smart skinny jeans are fine, and most ranges have a long option. I would like some smarter trousers but they seem impossible to find. And slightly pointless now we're wfh for the forseeable.

Velvian · 08/11/2020 10:21

I'm not having this problem right now with WFH, but last winter I wore flatform loafers with thin black socks. I think they looked fine. I have also worn tights under trousers. I hate tights, but would rather wear them under trousers than wear a dress and tights.

TryingnottobeWaynettaSlob · 08/11/2020 10:39

I wear them but HATE cold ankles too I just wear patterned or black pop socks Or tight ankle boots or I but cropped wide leg (so then I don’t get wet dirty hems) and wear them with high Chelsea boots or high heeled linger length boots. Problem solved!!

motherofgod2 · 08/11/2020 11:00

I wear these but with flat shoes so they touch the ground. I'm 5 7 and the regular are fine for me. M&S have normal length trousers too. I think the cropped trouser look is definitely something that we'll look back on and realise it looks a bit silly really.

I gave up last year and bought Next slim bootleg trousers - problem solved! This winter I’m WFH, so a completely different set of wardrobe issues!

SunnyAgain · 08/11/2020 12:10

I am quite slim and buy black and navy trousers from M&S school uniform range. They just look like plain work trousers, not especially stylish but functional and smart enough. Not only do they cover my ankles, they have pockets and an adjustable waist which I find brilliant!

Nearlysantatime · 08/11/2020 12:23

This is why I wear tights and dresses. Blue ankles are not cute!

GreyishDays · 08/11/2020 12:27

I either wear knee high tights or black skinny jeans with ankle boots (black black, not denimy black).

Coffeepot72 · 09/11/2020 14:59

@Ginfordinner jersey dresses with opaque tights and long tops with leggings over here :)

Ironfist · 09/11/2020 15:32

Marks & Spencer, I always get my work trousers from there.

I wear a wide leg trouser with brogues, converse or pumps. I like them long, as in sitting well on the shoe. I am short (5ft) and this shouldn't work on me but I dont care, I think it looks very stylish. probably look even better on someone taller...

BonnieDundee · 12/11/2020 17:21

All my life I never thought there were any advantages to being short . But now there is one. Ankle grazers fit me perfectly.

Sorry OP. I dont like above ankle trousers either but I'm only 5'2" so they are perfect for me

Long live ankle grazers Grin

Some of these links are really helpful, I think Next or M&S ones are the way to go.

The Boden ones are lovely but don't think I can justify £70 on work trousers as I need to order a couple of pairs.

I actually love that so many of you experience this problem too!
