Anyone wear trousers to work and manages to cover their ankles?!

MrsTumbletap · 07/11/2020 11:39

So why do women's trousers have to stop above the ankle only to be worn with brogues or pumps meaning our ankles are freezing?

It's ridiculous, I want to wear socks and boots and not freeze. Does anyone know where I can find some?

All I can find is this....

@throwaway10000 they are probably the best in terms of length but they say jersey type material? I don't think I could get away with them at work, we have to be quite smart. Wish I could go and try them on, online shopping makes it difficult to judge how casual/slouchy the fabric is.

Narrow trousers can't be any longer or they would get stuck on your foot, that's why they are cut to the ankle. Bootcut/flared trouses can be longer as there is enough width to sit over the shoe.

boden boot cut

Also if wear socks or knee high tights under your boots?

Honest I'm with you on the impractical lady-fashions in cold weather. I'd look for some smart boots with a small block heel and warm socks.

NotMeNoNo · 08/11/2020 00:38

Also try Next for boot cut workwear type trousers. I just noticed the Boden choices are either ponte jersey or cotton elastene, not smart type fabric. exasperating.

Lucked · 08/11/2020 00:55

Boden do their Richmond trousers in a full length as well as cropped. Worth waiting for a decent discount though.

I find a lot of ankle trousers are quite tapered so I can’t wear longer boots under them as they get caught up so I have to adjust them every time I stand up which is about a trillion times a day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/11/2020 01:06

I wear knee high socks under cropped trousers or jeans. M&S school socks are my favourite, and I have them in black, charcoal grey, and navy. I also have stripy Lucy and Yak knee length socks for jeans.

MitziK · 08/11/2020 01:17

@haba

You just need to be 5'0"- they're all long enough then! Even 7/8 trousers are down to my ankle bone.
Works when you're five foot six and stumpy of leg, too.

Standard 7/8 trousers are full length on me. And short fitting/full length are about 3mm off the floor.

OP, if you have normal length legs rather than my stumps, just go for the Long fitting and you'll be fine.

Notarealmum · 08/11/2020 02:41

How about these for full length???

static.zara.net/photos/2020/I/0/1/p/4432/269/922/2/w/1230/4432269922_1_1_1.jpg?ts=1600854976155

Joking aside, Zara does appear to have some a few length trousers this season.

Notarealmum · 08/11/2020 02:43

That should, of course, read a few full length 🙄

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 08/11/2020 02:44

I agree with pp - style it out with socks. Argyle/striped/polka dot/glittery/whatever else takes your fancy.

Nc135 · 08/11/2020 08:10

Ah I have been noticing it too recently. Trousers stopping at a really weird place and then my skinny ankles sticking out the bottom.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 08/11/2020 08:13

They do look silly. Like someone has chopped them off, or bought from the petite range when they arent!

MacDuffsMuff · 08/11/2020 08:50

I'm so bored of ankle grazers now. H & M had some decent trousers last year, I haven't looked this year but may be worth checking.

InTheLongGrass · 08/11/2020 09:02

M&S have some - and the website lets you filter by length.
I hate short trousers too - reminds me of being to tall for most trousers and longer ranges being scarse, so most of my trousers were a touch too short what that wasnt the fashion!

SetSail · 08/11/2020 09:06

I know exactly what you mean. Plus I’m 5’10, so an ankle grazer on me really is or even a bit above, which I don’t like in cold weather.

Hush do full length wide-leg trousers in black, might have other options: www.hush-uk.com/clothing/trousers. Also Boden’s Richmond trousers (and others): www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/richmond-trousers-black/sty-t0113-blk?cat=C1_S2_G963. Also M&S: www.marksandspencer.com/l/women/trousers#intid=gnav_women_clothing_trousers

Bobbybobbins · 08/11/2020 09:12

I've got two pairs with a slight bootleg from Next which are smart for work. They often have a wider range of cuts.

toomuchfaster · 08/11/2020 09:12

I have trousers from Tesco that cover my ankles and from M+S. Unfortunately both bought back in the days of being able to look at, touch and try on to ensure the right fit before buying. Try bootcut in the description?

OwlOne · 08/11/2020 09:15

I know, I hate this fashion. I bought a pair of Barrel Jeans, only 66cm long. Well, they arrived and I just don't have the right boots. There was a big unexposed stretch of skin (or penny's sock) gap between even the top of my highest boots and the end of the jeans. It looked ridiculous.

I had to send them back.

Please can we have normal length trousers next season

BalloonSlayer · 08/11/2020 09:15

I think I got some from h and m. Also I have the uniqlo ones above (warning those come up very small).

I also detest ankle grazes. I am too old for the " my mum won't buy me any more school trousers because it's too near the end of term" look.

OwlOne · 08/11/2020 09:19

@haba

You just need to be 5'0"- they're all long enough then! Even 7/8 trousers are down to my ankle bone.
Not even sure that this can be true! I am only 5'1'' but trousers with an inside leg measurement of 66cm are not long enough, you need to have the right boots. And even if you buy the exact same boots that the model is wearing in the ''shoot'', it might look ok when you're standing up but when you're sitting down you look like mr bean.

I had to have a meeting a while ago and I was wearing too short trousers with ankle boots, and it looked ok actually, when I was standing up! But sitting opposite somebody, 4 metres apart but no desk, I was like the fashion gombeen.

ThunderSkies · 08/11/2020 09:21

I agree - I went trouser shopping and was reminded why I have so few trousers.

It’s impossible to find something where the shape suits you, the fabric is decent and the colour is nice. I can normally get one or two out of the three...

ThunderSkies · 08/11/2020 09:28

Buying long trousers when your shorter doesn’t work because the other proportions are all wrong.

Nothing makes you look even shorter than too short trousers.

Although I hate the word 'frumpy' nothing looks more frumpy than slightly overweight and too short trousers.

Not to mention the awful, awful fabric that a lot of trousers are made out of.

Ponks · 08/11/2020 09:29

When I was young, having trousers that bit too short was a thing to avoid, and I can't get my head round ankle length trousers exposing the ankle, particularly with suits. For casual wear, with trainers, in the summer, yes. Formal workwear, no. (Such as this photo)

I have some proper long trousers from John Lewis Modern Rarity range though.

Anyone wear trousers to work and manages to cover their ankles?!
jojomolo · 08/11/2020 09:31

I just wear normal socks. Can't be doing with cold ankles.

oneglassandpuzzled · 08/11/2020 09:35

I work from home but hate this, too. Cold ankles make me feel cold all over.
