How often do you use heat on your hair?

I have long hair which I air dry 95% of the time, even in winter (I work from home). Not because it's better for it, but because I'm lazy.

However I do use my GHDs on it once a month or so. I know this is not often compared to many people (especially because many people blow dry their hair) but I am curious as to how often people use heat on average. And, if you do, do you apply a protector first?

I use a hair dryer or my AirWrap and straighteners every day. Never bother with anything protective. My hair is in very good condition.

ZazieRoses · 04/11/2020 18:31

Blow dry once every three or four months and use heat protector.

QueenPaws · 04/11/2020 18:32

Diffuse dry about twice a week on low heat. My hair takes 24hrs + to air dry! And no protector as I haven't found one that's curly girl safe

devildeepbluesea · 04/11/2020 18:33

Every day, hairdryer and straighteners. My hair looks fine but could probably do with a bit of TLC

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 04/11/2020 18:36

Do any of you using heat on a daily basis have fine hair? Mine is fine and I think that were I to apply heat daily it'd probably get very damaged.

Not since Feb, which was the last time I managed to get to the hairdressers! 🤦‍♀️

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/11/2020 18:47

I have fine hair but lots of it. Blow dry maybe 4 times a week, straighteners once a month maybe. I have very good hair though. Genetics!

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 04/11/2020 18:53

In the last 20 years, I've maybe used a hairdryer 6 or 7 times. I've never straightened my hair. Like you, I just can't be bothered, OP!

bellagogosdead · 04/11/2020 18:58

My hair is very fine and I don't use heat on it very often, because I notice the difference in condition after just one use. Sometimes I just get a bit cold and fed up waiting for it to dry though.

foxtiger · 04/11/2020 19:53

About once every 2 years, I'd guess, and I always regret it. Blow drying makes mine straighter and more flyaway, leaving it to dry naturally is best for volume.

EasilyDepleted · 04/11/2020 19:55

About twice a year. Unless I spend about an hour doing it it looks better left to dry naturally, with big bouncy waves. I do use heat protection spray.

PawPrincess · 04/11/2020 19:57

Every day, no protection cream of spray, that's just marketing. No issues with the hair. It's dead cells, basically material and we iron that so don't see the problem. Hair dry and straighteners at 230*C.

PawPrincess · 04/11/2020 19:58

My hair is fine. But I wash and condition daily to.

Harrykanesrightsock · 04/11/2020 20:00

Very fine hair wash and dry daily. If I don’t I would look like Golem.

It's not marketing, it's science. The ingredients in heat protectants form thin layers on the hair which slow down heat conduction and distributes the heat more evenly. Silicones also seal the cuticle to prevent moisture loss. All this stops your hair from getting fried.

Very fine hair and I use the babyliss heated brush on it most days (unless I’m not going out in public!) I only use it for about 1-2 mins when it’s very nearly (air) dry but I get mega frizz if I don’t finish it off like this! Better for my hair than straighteners, which I used daily for about a decade.

FrappuccinoFan · 04/11/2020 20:59

I blow dry my hair each wash (2/3x per week), as it feels much nicer/healthier.

I used to straighten my hair daily but this didn’t impact the condition - I was more prone to split ends yes, but overall my hair was healthy and thick. It only became damaged after highlights!

FrappuccinoFan · 04/11/2020 21:00

I use heat protection, a blow drying product & a mist

Woui · 04/11/2020 21:04

I've curly hair so only use heat if I am straightening it. Last time was March.

cosmo30 · 04/11/2020 21:13

Years ago I used heat on my fine hair everyday for nearly a year, all the back eventually broke off and refused to grow back. I won't even use a hairdryer now

purplecorkheart · 04/11/2020 21:17

I have very fine straight hair. I never use heat on it at home. I get my hair coloured every five weeks or so and my stylist blow dries and straightens my hair. Used to get salon blowdries every Friday on my lunch break in a small salon near work but the owner closed it last year due to ill health.

DelphineWalsh · 04/11/2020 21:38

Only when I get it cut at the hairdressers so 2/3 times a year. I don't own a hairdryer or styling tools. My hair is pretty fine and dries in 10ish mins.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/11/2020 06:59

I have long wavy and thick hair, but it's quite coarse. I very rarely use heat on mine, in fact one of the only times I do is before I colour it as I find it much easier to colour it if it's all straight. I almost never blow dry or heat style it otherwise. Partly/mostly from laziness. It is In good condition though, no split ends etc which is I think a combination of treating it well and eating well. I haven't had a haircut for nearly 3 years.

nitgel · 05/11/2020 07:03

I have fine hair and use hot rollers with heat protector spray after washing my hair then a little heat to style on day 2/3. If I dont its super soft and I prefer it with abit of body.

SpeckledyHen · 05/11/2020 07:08

Every day . Blow dry with occasional protection spray when I remember .
I use Aveda damage repair products as a rule as they are perfect conditioning for my thick wavy hair .
