Snag Tights

I hate their marketing.

I really thought they were only for very obese women or very fat men who like to wear tights.

I didn't realise that slim women were their target market too.

OP posts:

Body shape not boy shape

kondomeup · 03/11/2020 05:02

Is this just a fat bashing thread @ShrikeAttack because you seem very offended by their existence?

Persipan · 03/11/2020 05:24

I sometimes used to find their marketing a bit gushing, but they're such great tights that now I routinely gush about them, too. I bought some when I was pregnant, because I couldn't find any maternity tights that weren't deathly dull, and although they don't do maternity tights they say the ordinary ones are stretchy enough to do the job. I wore them right through pregnancy, and am still wearing the same ones seven months later - no ladders, no holes, and they never fall down. They're bloody brilliant.

PatchworkElmer · 03/11/2020 05:38

I’m a size 8-10, and ordered a pair based on recommendations on here. I agree that, if a series of their adverts had just appeared in my feed, I would’ve probably assumed that they were a plus size product.

I have to say, I’m not that impressed with them. I bought 3 pairs- went through the toe on the first wear of all of them. Emailed customer services about it (they’re not cheap and I would’ve expected them to last longer than 1 wear). They very kindly sent 3 replacements- and I promptly went though the toe of 2 of them. 1 pair are still going strong, 6 months later. But I wouldn’t buy them again, based on the quality of the other 5 pairs.

TwoCupsOfLemonTea · 03/11/2020 06:53

@ShrikeAttack

Why do I care?

I don't really.

I.just keep wondering why they keep appearing and why their competitions really seem to laud really quite large women. Larger than I'd see in regular life.

Huge. But they sell tights from size 8 up. Apparently.

I've never seen a size 8 advertising them.

I don't know a slim woman that would buy them. Purely because of their advertising. Seems a bit ridiculous.

Yet here we are 🤣

TriciaMcMillan · 03/11/2020 08:28

Size 8/10 here, happily own loads of pairs in a rainbow of different colours. Not sure what the issue is really, are you irritated that you think they're marketing strategy is wrong, given that they do stock sizes for slimmer people but don't shout about it?

As an aside, I've now hopped over to the site and found a new limited edition colour I don't have... Is this a weird PR stunt?

Thesearmsofmine · 03/11/2020 08:32

I love my snag tights, I don’t wear trousers so have worn pretty much every brand of tights there is and these are my favourites.

I get a lot of their adverts pop up on my social media and the point is that they are worn by women of all different shapes, sizes, heights and ages. Most adverts for brands feature tall very slim women even if the brand sell a range of sizes.

TriciaMcMillan · 03/11/2020 08:33

@CarrotCakeSupprise are you sure? Thought they were owned by a Scottish woman. Have you got a link?

InglouriousBasterd · 03/11/2020 08:38

I do actually see your point. DD was desperate for some as she loves mine and I was trying to find how the purple looked on very skinny legs - what the opacity was like etc - and every picture was plus -sized so I couldn’t get a good idea of how they’d look. So I do get what you mean, but I also suspect this is meant to be a fat bashing thread.

Hoppinggreen · 03/11/2020 08:44

I am a size 16 and buy a lot of clothes online (including Snag tights) . 99% of the time the models on the website are a very different size to me, and yet I manage.

ImaSababa · 03/11/2020 08:49

They're for fat lasses who think they're quirky.

Disclaimer: I'm a fat lass who thinks she's quirky!

chunkyrun · 03/11/2020 08:50

They're for fat lasses who think they're quirky.

^^ in a nutshell. Nothing wrong with it though

BeneathTheMilkyTwilight · 03/11/2020 08:55

I'm a size 12 and 5 ft 10. I buy snag because most tights are not long enough for me. The material is also softer and nicer than ordinary tights.
I like to see different body shapes in advertising. You seem offended to see fat people existing. Going on about how "huge" the models are; it's a bit childish, isn't it?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/11/2020 08:59

I'm a 10 -12 and wear them. I liked the colours so went on the website to have a look what sizes they do them in. Isn't that what most people do

Marchitectmummy · 03/11/2020 09:00

What a strange thread, you say you thought they were only for plus sizes and yet you have been on their website and are aware they sell smaller sizes! So what is tbe issue?

I'm sizes 8 and yet I have snag tights and somehow worked out they sold them.

sonjadog · 03/11/2020 09:03

Does it really matter what size the models are? Surely everyone already knows what a pair of tights looks like on a pair of legs. They are hardly a new fashion idea...

QueenPaws · 03/11/2020 10:01

I'm a 16 but wear them because I'm 5ft 10 and they're the only ones that have ever been long enough. Not quirky, I just buy the black and nude tights
Guess you just wanted to say all the models were HUGE rude

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 10:05

Anyone know if their chub rub cycling short things are any good?

Clearly, I'm their target market shape...

sunshineandshowers21 · 03/11/2020 10:52

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria they were a god sent to me when i was heavily pregnant during this year’s early heatwave. i wobbled around all day in dresses with no sign of discomfort.

nevermorelenore · 03/11/2020 11:19

Probably because buying tights can be horrendous when you're plus sized. So they probably find their brand appeals more to women who are at the larger end of their size range, which is why the marketing is tailored to them. But on the actual website, there are a range of models.

They are great tights but I wish there was an alternative because I hate the quirky advertising so much. Even as a fat, quirky woman myself. (I only wear the black tights, no way would I subject the world to the sight of my fat calves clad in purple).

AnnaMagnani · 03/11/2020 11:25

Is it because that you are so used to all advertising being thin women, that when you see diverse advertising - a range of fat, medium, disabled, all colours women, you actually think the thin women are invisible.

Well, welcome to the world of all those women who usually aren't represented At All.

I just wish we didn't have to be quirky all the time.

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/11/2020 11:30

Im a petite size 12 and I’ve looked at Snag tights (I’ll buy some when I’m not pregnant anymore too because they look great) I also manage to buy clothes from other places that only ever advertise using size 8, 5”10 women too, how on earth do I manage you must wonder?!? Nowhere uses 5”2 models but somehow I still see the clothes and like them 🤷🏼‍♀️

I love that Snag use larger women in their advertising even if it doesn’t represent me. I like when companies use a range of ethnicities and heights too, even if it doesn’t mirror how I look. I want to support inclusive companies.

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/11/2020 11:32
  • I’ve said I like when they use different heights, but actually I’m not sure many I’ve seen do? More likely to see a plus sized woman than a short woman it seems
nevermorelenore · 03/11/2020 12:15

Me too! I'm sick of this ideal that fat women all have to be quirky and wear kerazy 50s style dresses, have colourful hair and pose under umbrellas with our toes pointed inwards.

Some of us would quite like to be boring and just buy some sodding black tights that don't roll down all day. I'm quite happy to be boring.
