M&S biker boots

I would like to buy some biker boots but I don’t know if I will like them/wear them, and if my husband will let me wear them. He’s not a big fan of big chunky footwear and will say it’s not my style. My style is usually fairly classic/chic but I can also be quite fashionable when I want. I am also very skinny (though quite tall) and I fear they might look “out of proportion”.
In case I end up not wearing them, I don’t want to spend too much. I’ve seen this pair from M&S, could you pls let me know what you think? I would be wearing them with skinny jeans, mom jeans, skirts and dresses. Basically everything! They look fairly classic to me so I feel I would not be taking a big risk.

Thank you Smile

The fact that your husband dictates which boots you are permitted to wear is just such a glaring standout from your post, the actual boots themselves rather become irrelevant.

I hope you’re ok?

ImaSababa · 28/10/2020 11:32

Your husband shouldn't have so much control over what you wear!

DameCelia · 28/10/2020 11:35

Never mind I the boots, are you ok? Your husband "letting you wear" an item of clothing is very concerning?

nicerbeing · 28/10/2020 11:36

Get the boots. Drop the husband.

RoseEmelie · 28/10/2020 11:37

Sorry I didn’t want to sound alarming, I’m OK thank you! Just to be clear I can wear what I want (generally!), but if he doesn’t like it, he will make endless remarks... Fortunately the DCs will always back me up as they’re more into fashion than he is! (he’s very classic).

NotDonna · 28/10/2020 11:39

Another one who is more concerned about your controlling husband than the boots. If you like them get them. Sod him!

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 28/10/2020 11:39

Your follow up post isn’t really making the situation look any better tbh.

It’s not normal for a husband to behave like this, and it’s really worrying that you seem to have accepted it.

Kidneybingo · 28/10/2020 11:41

They aren't chunky enough. I'd be getting much bigger ones just to piss my husband off.

VimFuego101 · 28/10/2020 11:44

Those look like perfectly normal, not at all 'out there' boots. DH will sometimes make a jokey comment about something I wear, but would never complain or tell me not to wear it. What you say about your husband sounds very concerning.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/10/2020 11:50

He isn't classic, he's a nob. Tell him to stop commenting on your clothing choices, if he continues ltb.

Ponks · 28/10/2020 11:57

Those are just ordinary boots, not big or chunky at all.
Seriously do not let husband dictate what you wear. Great big flashing red warning light there.

MyOwnSummer · 28/10/2020 12:02

Get the boots.
Tell the "D" H that being controlling is a massive turn off, who does he think he is?

Janegrey333 · 28/10/2020 12:24

Yet another who is concerned that anyone should dictate to another adult what they should or should not wear. Sad

ElspethFlashman · 28/10/2020 12:28

"Endless remarks" are not normal. One good humoured and amusing tease then a cheerful shrugging of the shoulders is normal.

Endless remarks are designed to ground you down so you consign the item to the back of the wardrobe because its just not worth it.

MoltonSilver · 28/10/2020 12:45

Under the circumstances I think I'd be wearing these. If he has a problem, tell him not to wear them then.

The boots you have linked are lovely. They look pretty classic to me. M&S don't really sell anything risky.

SJaneS48 · 28/10/2020 13:24

The boots are ok honestly. I’ve seen some options I’d prefer but they are more ££.

My DH will on a rare occasion make a comment about my choices but as he has no taste whatsoever I don’t overly question my choices. Not liking what each other wears is fine but I’m sure we all mostly keep quiet about it (I hold my hand up though to debating for a couple of minutes whether to rescue a completely revolting middle age crisis leather jacket DH bought from our puppy who was chewing the collar off a couple of years ago). It’s our job as partners to build each other up and make each other feel good. Banning your other half from wearing something even if you hate it is something else though!

GlassOfPimms · 28/10/2020 13:45

I have those boots but in the leather version and they are really nice - not really chunky and very versatile. I find they go with everything I wear - skirts, jeans of all styles etc.

My DH barely notices what I wear but would be told firmly where to go if he dictated what suits me. I hope that if you buy them, you'll wear them with confidence Smile

TheDaydreamBelievers · 28/10/2020 14:03

I like them. Personally I just bought a chunkier boot from Mand S that I didnt think were too out there!

RoseEmelie · 28/10/2020 14:06

Thanks all. I’ve just ordered a pair in each colour. I think we all agree they’re pretty plain and risk free. If I like them and they stay in fashion, I might treat myself with higher end ones. I cannot wear heals anymore due to a medical issue but this chunky type with a big sole is fine so fingers crossed I like them.
@MoltonSilver I can’t stop laughing, you’ve made my day. I imagine his face if I was wearing these shoes on this picture Grin It’s almost tempting...
Joke aside I think I need to be more confident and firm with my choices.

RoseEmelie · 28/10/2020 14:10

@TheDaydreamBelievers, I saw them and liked them too, they look like smarter hiking boots. Are they very comfortable?

OP posts:
TheDaydreamBelievers · 28/10/2020 14:13

Very @RoseEmelie - the chunky sole is also making them grip nicely on wet leaves. The only note I'd give is they run a bit large - I went a half size down

Bagelsandbrie · 28/10/2020 14:17

I am also Shock at your dh.

However, the boots are okaaaay. They aren’t really what I would consider proper biker boots. They’re quite pretty and dainty really, especially with the heel. I was expecting to see more of a doc marten type thing. If you like them go for it!

Titsinknicks · 28/10/2020 14:19

The boots are 'risk free'? This is concerning!

MiddlesexGirl · 28/10/2020 14:22

They're not biker boots really. But I would definitely be buying some and wearing them every day until 'd'h stopped saying I couldn't wear them.

hellisotherpeopleandhorlicks · 28/10/2020 14:24

I wouldn't even call those biker boots tbh.
But I am really concerned that you refer to your choice as risk free. Do you mean risky in terms of out there or risky in terms of your husband being against them?
