Hi,

My wifes hair is really dry, quite tangled and needs some TLC (her words not mine fyi)

Are there any products/shampoo's etc I can get for her? At the moment we just get one from Aldi.

Price isn't an issue.

@halloweenagain

Glad you've got good advice. I would second the new bedding and making the bed one. It is a nice thing that you doing.
Aw thanks! And it is husband, why that has caused such a hurrah I don't know. I didn't realise you only had to be female to post here!

If you have dry hair after pregnancy consider seeing gp as, in combination with other symptoms there may be a medical cause (eg low thyroid)

ViciousJackdaw · 29/10/2020 23:03

@LAlexander7 Oh no, men are allowed (I'd like to say they are welcome but we do have more than a few misandrists here...), I just think it was because you shouldn't assume that someone who has a wife is a man.

How does your wife feel about a trip to a salon? Obvs. she might be put off by Covid, that's understandable but if she's avoiding going because she feels embarrassed about her hair then she really shouldn't. IME, hairdressers like getting a head of dry or damaged hair and turning it into something lovely.

I get it re hair changes post-baby. My third baby has just turned five months and my bloody hair is still falling out loads. It gets everywhere. I'm fed up with it!

Ignore all the nasty comments. I would really appreciate my DH taking the time to seek advice and do something nice for me. I hope she enjoys her gift. Smile Just to add, if she has experienced any hair loss, NutriHair is a great supplement.

Time: My hair fell out loads after pregnancy but it rebalanced itself. I think it seemed worse than it was because it was SO lucious and thick while I was pregnant the contrast was difficult
Also (and this is a cliche and maybe you do this anyway) but telling her she looks beautiful on a frequent basis might help as it sounds like a confidence thing.
Other than that I can second silk pillow cases, also those hair ties that look like spiraly plastic (like old telephone cords) rather than normal hair elastics.

But also I think that some people assumed you were an EVIL man who was selfishly preoccupied with his wifes appearance when she had just had a child etc etc and was trying to control her through her hair products Wink

yetanothernamitynamechange · 30/10/2020 20:51

Also, and I don't know why, but having cups of tea brought to you in bed after having a child is an amazing cure for hair loss, post-partum pain, general malaise... Science innit.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/10/2020 20:52

Breastfeeding does take it out of hair - mine is the same. I find washing it less but using curl cream everyday really helps. She just has to experiment. One way you can help is by taking the baby for as long as possible to allow her to sleep / shower / shit / wash and detangle her hair.

NeverTwerkNaked · 31/10/2020 12:23

I don't know why the op has been attacked. my husband has been amazing too at helping me fix my hair that had got into a horrible state post babies. Sometimes he had to sit for am hour detangling it

Regular hair cuts help. I put off booking because I was so ashamed of the state of my hair but they were so understanding.

A decent hair mask once a week is lovely and feels quite pampering

Silk scrunchies to tie it back and a silk pillow case

Rahua shampoo and conditioner have also really transformed my hair. Eye wateringly expensive but worth every penny for the difference they make

During pregnancy I believe your body hangs onto the hair making it full and shiny. I know I had the best hair of my life during pregnancy. Then after the birth it starts coming out and it is dry and lacklustre.

As someone who is obsessed with the condition of my hair, I would recommend the following. I would encourage her not to do anything drastic to feel better. I had my very dark hair highlighted. I think the brief to the hairdresser was to make me look like I'd just been to the Maldives, but I came out with orange streaks and it took me 4 years to grow it out. DON'T!!!!!

The best thing for your wife's hair, in the long run, is to have it trimmed regularly and take care of it. If it is long she is probably going to have it tied up a fair bit so the baby doesn't grab and tug it. They do!! Buy her some great conditioning treatments like Olaplex or a Keratin treatment in a salon.

If you want to be an even nicer partner, then buy her some lovely skin and nail care too. All things she can do at home plus mind the baby so she can go to the hairdressers.

WokesFromHome · 04/11/2020 20:34

Yes, yes to silk pillowcase!!! It has to be 100% Muberry Silk. Her hair and skin will thank you.

AlwaysLatte · 04/11/2020 20:38

It's nice that you're thinking about this for her. I had a run of dry hair and tried Tigi Bed Head Urban Antidotes no. 3. Omg it was amazing and really fixed the problem. Very good value too - currently only £11.50 for both shampoo and conditioner 750 ml bottles on Amazon.

Deal: Bed Head by Tigi Urban Antidotes Resurrection Shampoo and Conditioner for Damaged Hair, 2 x 750 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AC34TS8/ref=cmswwrcppapiiidlTyeXOFbRRNV2P4
