Baby has ruined my wife's hair

Hi,

My wifes hair is really dry, quite tangled and needs some TLC (her words not mine fyi)

Are there any products/shampoo's etc I can get for her? At the moment we just get one from Aldi.

Price isn't an issue.

Id make sure shes getting enough sleep and nutrition as pregnancy can really deplete you.
As for which shampoo to use, i dont think it needs to be expensive. I like the tresemme moisture rich one and the same conditioner.

ShizeItsWeegie · 28/10/2020 09:33

Why is everyone so nasty assuming the OP is a man?

Hi OP!

Lovely that you want to do something nice for her, ignore the prickly pears! 🍐

If money is really no issue, go kerastase (their resistance set with shampoo, conditioner make and crème is incredible and will basically rebuild her hair). Don’t just get a nice conditioner— a good shampoo and mask too is crucial. If too expansive let me know and I’ll suggest some other options.

I would also get her a bottle of Argan oil (not in a shampoo, but as a small seperate oil), this is incredible.

EminyBOO · 28/10/2020 09:40

Tbh it could be the Aldi shampoo that has ruined her hair - it did mine.
I’ve been reading this with interest as my hair is currently ruined by bleaching and am so tempted by the olaplex but the price is putting me off.

missbipolar · 28/10/2020 09:41

I'd tread very carefully about getting her something if it hasn't been discussed properly otherwise it comes across as you thinking her hair looks shit

Ohdeariedear · 28/10/2020 09:45

Olaplex all the way.

Xiaoxiong · 28/10/2020 09:51

Philip Kingsley Elasticiser. You can get it in the beauty hall at M&S. Alternatively, you can buy her a voucher for M&S and let her choose her own. Lovely thing to do for your wife. My hair is so thin still, years after having kids, that my DH offered for me to go to the Philip Kingsley consultation place to have a chat with them about what I could do about it. He said I still looked amazing though and didn't care if I was completely bald Grin

HanPanPeg · 28/10/2020 09:55

Following this with interest as my baby has also ruined my hair and have put nice shampoo/mask/conditioner on my Christmas list (it’s a list for myself and DH if he wants ideas I don’t send it around my family!).

BaronessBomburst · 28/10/2020 10:00

My baby ruined my hair as the bloody colour changed when I was pregnant! I used to be blonde, now it's borderline mousy. Sad

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/10/2020 10:09

(her words not mine fyi)

In the OP! Maybe set aside the Man Moaning, read what he actually wrote and offer some suggestions. He's a husband, a afather lookingf ro some ideas on how to be nice to his wife!

The Aussie stuff is nice, smells good, and can be bought in a whoe range of products once her hair is back to normal Smile

SeaToSki · 28/10/2020 10:10

Buy her a complete thyroid check up from MediChecks, get a Vit B supplement and a nice conditioner like PP suggested. Thinning brittle hair is often a sign of low thyroid levels, and that is very common post pregnancy. If the test says its a problem she can go to the GP to get double checked and a prescription for a thyroxine pill to take once a day until her own thyroid levels bounce back

I thought this too but then it is on my radar because my sister has a wife.
ChronicallyCurious · 28/10/2020 10:13

Hi OP.

My hair was really, really, really badly damaged for years. This was mainly due to over bleaching and just generally not looking after it as well as I should. It was dry and snapped off once it reached my shoulders and just looked frizzy abs felt awful. I bought biotin 10,000mcg from Amazon which are roughly £15 for a years supply and they make your hair and nails lovely.

I also use Olaplex 3 each time I wash my hair. Really easy to use your wife just needs to wet her hair and towel dry it and leave it on for at least ten minutes, if I have more time I like to leave it on for a few hours whilst I’m doing work in the house and then wash it off with shampoo and conditioner. These have made a huge different to my hair, it has actually grown to a long length and it is lovely and healthy now.

IHaveAGreyLamp · 28/10/2020 10:17

Dry hair oil from Moroccan Oil was my savior after PP hair loss

Janegrey333 · 28/10/2020 10:22

What an odd thread. Big hmmmm

Mulhollandmagoo · 28/10/2020 10:33

A good shampoo/conditioner/mask definitely (can't recommend one, but you've got lots on here) but also get some post natal vitamins for her too!!

WunWun · 28/10/2020 10:41

Maybe just hold the baby so she can post herself?

Janegrey333 · 28/10/2020 10:45

Olapelex 3 and 6, 3 leave in for an hour ish if she can, 6 rub into towel dried hair, it's a leave in treatment.

If replacing shampoo and cond i was told to get one with keratin/biotin in.

Maybe get her some hair supplements too? You can buy gummy ones, i've just got some in Aldi yesterday on specialbuy

Sooverthemill · 28/10/2020 10:51

@Pbbananabagel

If price is no object- get Aveda damage remedy. There’s a shampoo, conditioner and treatment masque. If you can’t afford all of them, just get the masque, it’s seriously expensive but if you get the set it will genuinely last Up to 6 months On long (nearly waist length) hair.
Was going to recommend this too. I buy a set once a year and use it once a fortnight. It's very good ( my hair was crap after chemotherapy)
BullBailey · 28/10/2020 11:02

Coconut or olive oil mask and then get something without sulphates or parabens in as these strip hair. Palmers do a lovely coconut shampoo, conditioner and masque that you can get in Tesco, it doesn’t have any nasties in that will further destroy hair. You need to treat it with care and not with crappy products. If you watch hair care adverts you will often notice they say ‘makes hair appear stronger/shinier’ etc the important word is APPEAR because they don’t actually help, so select something without all this crap in.

wherestheotherone · 28/10/2020 11:58

Your right to stop buying Aldi shampoo etc it's wrecked my hair!

Olaplex is good for rebuilding the hair strength. Philip Kingsley Elasticizer is for moisture (leave both in for a lot longer than recommended!). Aussie shampoo and conditioner are really good for moisture. I also use the Aussie miracle oil and always a heat defence oil, I find L'Oréal to be good.

Brush gently, reduce styling and heat until it's been treated and get regular haircuts. The condition will improve with time.

wherestheotherone · 28/10/2020 12:05

Oh and if she uses styling products my advice would be to stop, especially hairspray and mousse. It really affects the condition of my hair.

Bollss · 28/10/2020 12:08

@Frdd

Why isn’t your wife asking?
Oh my god maybe he's trying to do something nice for her. The miserable bastards are out in force this morning. My hair post baby was horrific it's weird that people are denying it's a thing.
