If you don’t wash your hair every day...

What do you put on your hair when you go in the shower?

I’ve stopped washing my hair every day and it is really benefiting from halving the amount of styling/heat on it. I want to continue this but I’m wrapping it in a little towel when I go in the shower.

What’s the alternative to a towel? Do people wear shower caps? Can you still buy them or is there a better alternative?

I use a hair wrap from Dock and Bay

ProfessionalWeirdo · 25/10/2020 19:18

I could get a shower cap but it’s a bit old lady 🤣

Not necessarily - there are some very pretty shower caps out there.

But who's going to see it anyway, apart from you? Nobody else need be any the wiser! Wink

BrassyLocks · 25/10/2020 19:21

My hair is very heavy, so I have an extra large shower cap. Wouldn't get in the shower without it. My DS8 likes to use it too Grin.

MirandaMarple · 25/10/2020 19:22

I hope people are still washing behind their ears whilst avoiding head/face in the shower. Is it just me who has to wipe with cleanser/wipes behind my ears to feel properly clean?!

GameSetMatch · 25/10/2020 19:23

I just tie it up in a bun type mess, I often have baths rather than showers when not washing my hair.

thedevilinablackdress · 25/10/2020 19:24

Your granny wore one because she knew what she was doing.

TroysMammy · 25/10/2020 19:25

I've got a panda shower cap, one of my many panda bits and bobs.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 25/10/2020 19:26

Shower cap lady here as well. They’re also great if you want to deep-condition your hair. Wash and put conditioner in, then shower cap.

NC4Now · 25/10/2020 19:27

I’m another one who does a high up bun and dodges the water. Although now I’m thinking I might invest in a shower cap!

Mybobowler · 25/10/2020 19:27

I tie my hair up and use one of those wide, stretchy headband things. I can wash my face without getting the dreaded frizzy hairline. Quite fancy a shower cap now though...

Audreyseyebrows · 25/10/2020 19:32

Shower cap for me. No one sees you.

NaughtipussMaximus · 25/10/2020 20:12

@Qwenzo

I definitely need to protect it from damp otherwise it goes frizzy. I could tie it up I suppose but I’d still have to do a bit of styling. I mean, I could get a shower cap but it’s a bit old lady 🤣
Who’s going to see you? Who’s going to care?!

I wash my hair every day, but if I have another shower in the evening, I tie it back and use one of those free shower caps you get in hotel bathrooms.

Shelby1981 · 25/10/2020 20:17

A shower cap! £1 from Sainsburys

Regularsizedrudy · 25/10/2020 20:20

Um a shower cap obviously. Who is going to see you?

acerred · 25/10/2020 20:20

Nothing, I just tie it up.

frustrationcentral · 25/10/2020 20:21

I tie mine up in a knot then lower the shower head so it's aiming at my neck

Regularsizedrudy · 25/10/2020 20:23

Jesus this is depressing. You know the soul purpose of your existence isn’t to be perceived right? It reminds me of that Margaret Atwood quote: pretending you're unseen, pretending you have a life of your own, that you can wash your feet and comb your hair unconscious of the ever-present watcher peering through the keyhole, peering through the keyhole in your own head, if nowhere else. You are a woman with a man inside watching a woman. You are your own voyeur.

onemouseplace · 25/10/2020 20:23

Another one who just ties it up and uses a wide headband and dodges the water.

One bonus of Covid times is I’ve managed to stretch washing my hair out to every third day consistently.

throwaway100000 · 25/10/2020 20:25

Depends on your shower I suppose. Shower cap is the best solution but some people can get away with just clipping it/tying it up without it getting wet.

throwaway100000 · 25/10/2020 20:26

As they can change the positioning of their shower head more easily etc

JollyGiraffe12 · 25/10/2020 20:31

I have a few of those towel turbans they are only slim so don’t feel bulky on your head like a towel but I find them more comfortable and less ‘plasticky’ than shower caps.

ElGuardiandenoche · 25/10/2020 20:32

I have hair I can sit on and tie it in a messy bun with a scrunchie on top of my head and because of disability I have to sit on a stool in the shower so I have to use the head in my hand to keep my hair dry but having seen those shower caps I’m really tempted to get one.

tobee · 25/10/2020 20:38

Shower cap! Why waste time reinventing the wheel? If it ain't broke, don't fix it! (To stretch the metaphor) Smile

TableDesk · 25/10/2020 20:40

Also use the stretchy headband for around face, cover ears etc and then this shower cap.... I have tried all the pretty, all the cheap, all the practically all shower caps and this one I re purchased twice in a panic after I thought I'd lost it Grin I have a lot of hair and need to keep it dry, water and moisture, as think Monica in Friends. I only wash my hair every (ahemmm) 10 days or so as its such as faff.
Totally recommend this shower cap and meh to thinking it's a granny thing!
