Any excellent products?
My Mum was an Avon lady and I am happy to support this local Avon lady but would appreciate recommendations esp re skin care stuff that works or make up. Bearing in mind I have sensitive skin.
Or any suitable products. Wink
Just love the Avon catalogue- it used to be a quarter of the size in the 80s.

Some of the skincare stuff is nice as is the shampoo.

Whatever you do, don’t order the dreadful Skin So soft spray, which they try to market as being a mosquito repellant. It smells absolutely foul and the gnats still bite you anyway!

theonlywayisup33 · 22/10/2020 20:10

I actually bought the skin so soft off Amazon a couple of years ago when going abroad and it was really effective st staving off the mozzies.

Hmm

I’ve literally never come across anyone so excited about an Avon catalogue that wasn’t an Avon rep trying to persuade me to take one...

theonlywayisup33 · 22/10/2020 20:18

Ha! Ha! Well I cannot be an Avon rep trying to get you to take one @rottiemum88

Anyone with any actual product advice?

It's not the same shopping avon online.
My Mam was an Avon lady too, I used to take the massive order sheets and fill the ovals in at the slack time in my first job.
I like the sss spray it's almost as good as fag smoke for repellent and the glimmersticks are still good.

Janaih · 22/10/2020 20:23

I'm inclined to agree with @rottiemum88 Grin

myusernamewastakenbyme · 22/10/2020 20:29

Why would you want to support an mlm?

Eaumyword · 22/10/2020 20:31

They do really nice body lotion in 500ml bottles for just £2.50. The yoghurt&honey one smells lovely.
The candles are good too and again, very reasonable.

esmethurst · 22/10/2020 20:31

Not sure what it's called but they have a fabulous tanning spray

Purpleneonpinkunicorns · 22/10/2020 20:36

The lavender pillow mist ...I love it.

I've also tried the cannabis day cream and that seems to of helped my face.

And the euphoric mascara is lovely op.

(My mum does Avon so I buy something each catalogue to try)

Oh and the pjs are comfy also, but sometimes the slippers can be a bit dodgy on the size.

MadisonAvenue · 22/10/2020 20:49

I like the lavender hand cream and the Glimmerstick eyeliners.

I order through the Avon lady who calls at my Mom’s house. I used to have a regular one, she came here for years, and one day another put a book through the letter box so I put a note on saying ‘no thanks, already order from someone else’ to save her wasting a book on me again. I told my regular one and she said that it was a shame as she’d been trying to get rid of our close for ages as it was out of her way Confused

Yogawithmydog · 22/10/2020 21:16

Nothing because the parent company in the US still test on animals. And before I knew this, when I tried the skincare years ago it was horrific, full of nasty toxic crap and gave me a vicious red rash. My eyes closed up they were so swollen.

theonlywayisup33 · 22/10/2020 21:19

@MadisonAvenue Gosh! Thought they would want all the business they can get.

Thank you all so far. I have heard about the lavender pillow spray. Would it mean I have to change my pillow case more often?

I was looking for eyeliner so hoping that's what Glimmersticks are.

Didn't think it was MLM as am sure somebody would have got to me by now. However I have no intention of being an Avon lady. But I do admire them and it has a nostalgic effect on me. My mum gave up with a lack of orders and a few non payers in the end.

Their matte lipstick is excellent and I like it as much as my Mac ones

BabyMoonPie · 22/10/2020 23:26

@theonlywayisup33 In a fit of nostalgia for my youth I asked my local rep to drop me off an Avon catalogue today and I'm so excited! It was prompted by an advert I saw with festive products on so I'm expecting they will be in my order but I've no idea if they're any good

Batfinklestein · 22/10/2020 23:36

My mum still has a proper Avon lady.
She orders some bits for me too, and I really like a lot of their products.

Avon do really nice bath foams and shower gels.
They also do some great perfumes. I use Far and Away Rebel which is beautiful and a dupe for YSL Black Opium.
The nail polishes and eyeshadows are also great.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 23/10/2020 07:15

It is an mlm...same as Body Shop....Younique...Acti Labs....Scentsy etc....not to be touched with a barge pole.

phantomish · 23/10/2020 07:22

It's an MLM. Please don't support. They exploit the vulnerable. Dangerous business model

inappropriateraspberry · 23/10/2020 07:38

It's an mlm if you want to become a 'sales leader' and recruit people under you etc. Otherwise, you can do it pretty independently, like me, and just get on with it. I take no notice of any of the gift about working your way up, and just focus on getting orders and making a little bit of pocket money.
I think it's different to a lot of MLMs as it is an older, established, proven brand.
And Avon DO NOT test on animals.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 23/10/2020 07:47

There is a myth about Avon not being an mlm because it is an older trusted brand....I can assure you it is....It may not have been years ago but it is now....no better than Younique....Acti Labs...Party Lite....Juice Plus etc.

Jobseeker19 · 23/10/2020 07:49

I used to love Far Away Fantasy, I thibk it was called. Perfume

Monkeybunkey · 23/10/2020 09:27

Glimmersticks are indeed eyeliners and fabulous ones at that. I have a few (one of my neighbours does Avon). Their hand, face and body creams (in the tubs) are very good, as are their hand creams. I love Imari and Far Away perfumes too. You've reminded me I need to get my order in by Sunday!

crochetmonkey74 · 23/10/2020 09:40

I love Avon- my mum was a rep too- and I loved getting the special rep discount leaflets - and yes I agree about pencilling in allt he little bubbles on the order form- I loved it- and unpacking all the boxes when they came!

decoraters · 23/10/2020 09:45

@rottiemum88

Hmm

I’ve literally never come across anyone so excited about an Avon catalogue that wasn’t an Avon rep trying to persuade me to take one...

This was my first thought too Grin

Honestly OP don't do it. Once you start it can be very difficult for some people to stop. It's over priced crap really.

TheQueef · 23/10/2020 11:35

It's a shame Avon changed.
Back when Mam had a round she made 30% on it. In the 80's the Nov/Dec campaign would be £500+ it was a good earner.
She had to hike for it and some needed three calls to pay but you could legitimately earn extra.
