Does anyone wear these to bed every night?

These beautiful satin night gowns... we see them in movies but what I wanna know is, does anyone IRL wear them everynight?

I have a small collection of these but cannot wear them to bed. They feel uncomfortable compared to my usual cotton pajamas Blush I'm also afraid I'd feel cold in the morning. But I really want to get into the habit if it's possible as they feel so luxurious Grin

No! I'm comfy in a Vest and knickers. I'm probably peri so get so bloody hot that's about al I can cope with

MillieVanilla · 20/10/2020 21:53

@Kaiserin

My understanding is that they're meant to be worn for about 5 seconds before being pulled up and thrown onto the bedroom floor?

They look sensual for sure, but the lack of stretchiness makes them terrible garments for sleeping in.

Aha, maybe this is why not for me I get that hot in bed in a non sexy way that I'm never happier than when DH falls asleep downstairs and I get the bed to myself The era of flinging clothes off in a sexy way is so over

Not every night, no! It’s more date night material for me. But then again, I do have small boobs so these silky night dresses look a bit naff on me.

In the summer yes, especially after a lovely bath (and legs shave)!
formerbabe · 20/10/2020 22:10

I hate pyjamas for sleeping in. I wear them as loungewear round the house but not to bed. I wear those slip nightie type things but not silk.

surlycurly · 20/10/2020 22:15

I bought some proper silk one that are cut well and they are lovely to sleep in (I'm not a fan of clothes to bed). I do have huge boobs though and have been known to burst the straps in the night, wrestling them to stay where they are. The straps are comfy too though and I have real sensory issues (autism related). I also spent a hideous amount on proper silk pyjamas and they are the most delicious thing to lounge about in. I'm broke but look fabulous in bed.

Pipandmum · 20/10/2020 22:21

No - I wear an oversized t shirt. I may have worn something like that in my youth but now no one to impress so t shirt it is.

doloresclaiborne · 20/10/2020 22:22

I bought four of these. Very comfortable and flattering and none shiny.
They also don’t end up around my armpits.

My mum used to and one of my sisters does. I don’t...

Northernsoullover · 20/10/2020 22:26

True story: I wore a long silky nighty a la Dynasty once and I got into bed enthusiastically only to slide out the other side! (Single bed).

grenlei · 20/10/2020 22:27

I used to wear things like this (well the cheaper high st version) in my late teens and 20s. I think I was old before my time! I stopped wearing anything other than practical pyjamas for years partly due to weight gain and feeling unattractive, partly due to my house being cold most of the time. I do have some again now (still only the cheap ones) but I wear them when I go to see my DP, or when he is here, rather than every night.

carlablack · 20/10/2020 22:27

It's interesting to see how sleepwear differs from person to person! Grin

I salute all those who wear silk slips every night Wine

I'm expecting a baby girl and I want her to think of me like some of you think of your mothers - glamorous AF Grin For postpartum period I got myself three sets of cute cotton nightwear (slip and kimono) and since nothing else fits me with this belly I'm chained to them Wink

NorthernSoulLover, that cracked me up Grin

FusionChefGeoff · 20/10/2020 22:35

Can I recommend this as an Intro to Sexy Nighties??

www.pourmoi.co.uk/products/spot-print-jersey-secret-support-chemise/

Has a built in layer of support and lots of stretch. Soft to touch and not very low cut.

DH scored an absolute belter for my request for a glamorous nightie that's not super sexy but not a granny nightie.

ShopTattsyrup · 20/10/2020 22:44

I have looked after many an elderly lady in hospital who wears similar nighties, usually in pastel pink or a mint green. With a little matching lace trimmed bed jacket that they put on for breakfast!

Queenest · 20/10/2020 23:04

Gosh! Not for my I’m afraid. Pyjama shorts and a vest top at this time of year. None of that itchy, slidy, strappy shinanigans Grin

chasingmytail4 · 20/10/2020 23:23

I wore one on my wedding night. And I’ve just realised that’s the only night of my 31 year marriage that I’ve worn anything in bed Grin

TheNewLook · 21/10/2020 00:15

I had a beautiful cream one I bought for my honeymoon, wore it constantly (washing aside) then it was pinched from my hotel room on the last night!

To be fair, it was probably just swept up in the sheets when they changed the bed but if they found it, they never told me.

Still annoyed...

These days I sleep in knickers and soft bra.

Yes, I sleep in my pants!! A crime on MN! Grin

I used to go clubbing in something like that in the late 90s/ early 2000s.
Shodan · 21/10/2020 01:10

I used to, but started finding them uncomfortable. Now, at 51, I find anything that isn't cotton makes me sweat just thinking about it. I can't wear pjs as they twizzle round my unmentionables, and since becoming a divorcee again I find I travel over the bed a lot in sleep.

Nowadays, unless I'm 'entertaining', I wear cotton jersey knee length nighties with no lace/elasticy bits. The seams have to be sewn decently as well, otherwise they prickle.

It occurs to me that perhaps I'm a little 'high maintenance' when it comes to sleepwear...Grin

SD1978 · 21/10/2020 01:27

Can't wear them- they ride up to my bottom, and then ride down and strangle a boob. I wake up to the ruddy thing bunched uncomfortably and with a nipple staring at me. If you weren't a huge wriggler in bed, they may work out better.

StarlightLady · 21/10/2020 03:00

I’ve always slept naked (aside from when l was in hospital) since my teens. 40 something now. I can’t sleep comfortably with anything on in bed.

HermioneMakepeace · 21/10/2020 03:09

If only they made them with in-built bras Sad. Bravissimo did one years ago, it was cream silk or satin and kept my boobs in place all night. Unfortunately my housekeeper shrank it in the wash and I haven't been able to find another one since.

IronLawOfGeometricProgression · 21/10/2020 06:08

The thought of sleeping in rigid slippery polyester with grippy straps makes me recoil violently,

And I'd tear expensive silk rolling over in bed like some poor abused Orca at SeaWorld.
