Are higher end shampoo and conditioners actually worth it ?

I've got fine hair which I manage to get bounce with my Dyson and colour wow spray Grin. But I've always used shampoos and conditioners available in supermarket. Am I missing a trick would buying more high end give me better hair ? Or is it all in the styling ? Could anyone recommend any brill ones ?

I've generally always been a supermarket shampoo buyer but recently my mum has sent me (I'm mid 30's 2 children divorced been going through a difficult time!) some little pick me ups which have included along the way more expensive shampoos and I have to say I noticed a huge difference with my hair, I've been able to go longer without washing, I have a little patch of eczema on my head which completely went, just generally felt lighter and cleaner, the ones she bought me were these:

I used to buy supermarket shampoos and I tried nature lab Tokyo from cult beauty and I'd never go back to buying from a supermarket again, my hair is so much better in all ways. I've also got a Davines shampoo and conditioner on the go and I love that too.

Yes

RedComb · 17/10/2020 10:27

Interesting, I’ve tried shampoos at all price points over the years and I have never noticed a difference in my hair. Some styling products make a difference, but that’s all.

Girlintheframe · 17/10/2020 10:36

I've never noticed a difference and have gone back to supermarket brands.
Only thing I find worth paying extra for is hair masks

iwantavuvezela · 17/10/2020 10:40

I swear by the Kiel’s Amino Acid range ...... I can perhaps swop shampoos but find using supermarket conditioners makes my hair look fluffy
Although expensive .... a big bottle of each lasts me 6 months

MiddleClassMother · 17/10/2020 10:50

Only styling products and masks etc really make a difference, In a pinch I bought a store brand before going on holiday and was pleasantly surprised, other than the consistency there wasn't much difference and my hair was just as good.

showmethegin · 17/10/2020 11:04

I think they are better but saying that I now use Seanik shampoo and jungle conditioner (both solid from Lush) and my hair is so good now, if I use a bit of DPs supermarket shampoo I notice the difference immediately. With the lush my hair has more volume, and stays cleaner for longer

TheChineseChicken · 17/10/2020 11:07

I’ve tried a million shampoos and conditioners of all price points and my absolute favourite for my fine hair is ultimate blends - couple of quid from the supermarket

UncleFoster · 17/10/2020 11:09

I have fine bleached hair and it makes a massive difference to mine.

At the minute Im using a wella shampoo recommended by my hairdresser and its a good balance between price and effectiveness.

Wisteria1979 · 17/10/2020 11:24

I think it makes a noticeable different both to how long it stays clean but also other aspects. And often smells nicer 😊 I use cowshed strengthen or Elemis revitalise me.

dudsville · 17/10/2020 13:11

When I was younger I never noticed a difference. Now that I'm older my hair is drier and after trying a wide range of products I'm stuck with aveda dry remedy and elasticiser extreme.

OhRosalind · 17/10/2020 13:31

Kerastase and to a lesser extent Redken and Aveda make a huge difference, especially when my hair is particularly damaged or dry. If you’re hair is fine with cheaper stuff you probably don’t need them.

OhRosalind · 17/10/2020 13:32

*your not you’re, obviously.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 17/10/2020 15:43

I use an Elvive shampoo but the Kerastase Genesis conditioner and mask which are both amazing.

LizzieVereker · 17/10/2020 15:45

Plantur shampoo and conditioner was a game changer for my limp/ fine hair

MadisonMontgomery · 17/10/2020 15:51

The best shampoo & conditioner for my hair I have tried is Alberto Balsam - about £1 each! I have used all sorts, had been using Leonor Greyl but bought these on a whim as I love strawberry scent. I’m sure they are terrible for my hair but they leave it really silky & with loads of body.

Pelleas · 17/10/2020 15:54

Another vote for Ultimate Blends - the hair mask tubs are great for fine hair. It smells nice too.

Tootletum · 17/10/2020 15:57

I buy coconut shampoo for about 50p in boots. Just as good.

ISeeTheLight · 17/10/2020 15:59

I have an incredibly sensitive scalp. After trying everything under the sun - supermarket, medicated, salon brand, organic (Holland & Barret, lush etc) I've finally found something that works for me on Facebook of all places - it's not cheap and it's "personalised" so you complete a questionnaire and decide what colour, perfume etc you want and they make it to those requirements. For me it's completely worth it as my scalp has stopped being itchy and my hair isn't greasy straight away. Bonus is that my hair looks amazing.
So I'd say unless you have nightmare hair/scalp just stick with whatever works for you rather than spending £40 a month on shampoo & conditioner.

CornflakeMum · 17/10/2020 16:01

I find Kerastase products for fine hair make a huge difference for me

I think you are right here. When I was younger I would use any old shit on my hair and it always looked fab. I have been known to use Lairy liquid and Lenor when we ran out of shampoo at home, but that was a very long time ago.

Now I am much older and love nice shampoo although I do buy supermarket shampoos as well. Currently using Maria Nila as it is sulphur free and vegan, and makes me feel spoiled !

Holeinthehouse · 17/10/2020 16:09

I was converted to molten brown after my gym started stocking it in the showers. After I used that I couldn’t go back to my old supermarket cheap stuff. I bought some and have it at home now. It is expensive but it lasts ages as you are only suppose to use a small amount and it lathers up really well.

Honestly I would never have believed it but I do think expensive shampoo makes a difference. Obviously everyone’s hair is different though.

NeverTwerkNaked · 17/10/2020 16:40

I've just bought some Rahua shampoo and conditioner and it is eye wateringly expensive but for me worth every penny as I have been having such awful battles with my hair, so bad DH would have to spend an evening a week helping untangle it /cut clumps out of it and honestly my hair is transformed back into tangle free, glossy and bouncy hair and it has been worth every penny.

Miaowse · 17/10/2020 17:10

I used to use Molton Brown indian cress shampoo and conditioner (about 15 years ago). My hair was much glossier and less frizzy in those days. I now live in a hard water area too so that might also be a factor.
