How often do you wash your hair?

Me and my hair are not friends at the minute!!
My roots are very oily to the point I can wash my hair on day 1 and day 2 my hair would need washing again, but the ends of my hair are SO dry due to dying my hair. So I wash my hair probably every 2 days because my roots get greasy but obviously this is no good for the ends as they’re drying out!
I’m thinking of trying to wash it once a week say every Monday for example, I know my hair is going to look horrible but it’ll be good for the ends of my hair (and I can just stick it up during The end of the week)

How often do you wash your hair?? Is once a week not often enough?

Once or twice a week it never gets greasy but might get smelly if I left it much longer !

Soulstirring · 15/10/2020 19:37

I need to do mine daily. It’s fine but lots of it I’ve been told. Greasy roots, ends ok. Did get dry until I had the colour cut out. The only time it was good for two days was when when I was oh with my daughter and I loved it! I’d love to leave longer but just couldn’t without dry shampoo.

JKRisagryff · 15/10/2020 19:37

Every 4 days or so. Used to wash it every other day, it now never really gets to the level of greasiness that it used to after just a couple of days.

SingleHandSue · 15/10/2020 19:38

God, every bloody day!

My hair is ridiculously greasy. I’ve tried and tried to break the cycle but it honestly doesn’t work.

isthismylifenow · 15/10/2020 19:39

Clarifying shampoo will strip the colour so be careful using it.

I wash every 2nd day but I'm trying to stretch it to every 3rd day. I have started using a new dry shampoo but it's given me shocking excema sigh. So think I'll just have to go back to every other day or look like an oil slick on day 3.

Rockandgrohl · 15/10/2020 19:45

Every 4 days...getting an extra day without it looking rank has been my greatest lockdown achievement Blush

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 15/10/2020 19:54

Another vote for L’Oréal Sensibalance shampoo here. It’s really good at stopping your hair becoming greasy.

I wash mine every 3-4 days now but had to do it every other day before using this shampoo.

I buy the big bottles on Amazon - it looks expensive at £20 but it’s a 1.5L bottle so lasts forever.

For some reason the photo didn’t work!

How often do you wash your hair?

Every other day, any longer than that, my head gets really itchy, and my hair stinks! Cant bear the smell of unwashed hair. I've got short hair though, so not a big deal.

HeronLanyon · 15/10/2020 19:59

Daily. With sea kelp shampoo - gentle. Haven’t had it cut since December! I condition it every other weekish. It seems to be ok if long !

HeronLanyon · 15/10/2020 20:00

Been blessed with hair that’s not ever been dry or greasy (even if not washed so often).

Lonoxo · 15/10/2020 20:02

Every 4 days works for me. By day 5, it’s too greasy. Day 3, it’s probably the right condition to style into a plait or bun (the way models are discouraged from turning up at a show with freshly washed hair as it’s too difficult to work with).

Sunnydaysarethebestdays · 15/10/2020 20:03

You need a rebalancing shampoo, I had this and it got to the point when my roots constantly looked greasy even straight after washing it.
The rebalancing shampoo sorted it out in a few washes.

Pyewhacket · 15/10/2020 20:05

Every day under steaming hot shower.

AlwaysLatte · 15/10/2020 20:21

Every day.

EternalOptimist7 · 15/10/2020 20:29

Once a week but it should be done more often as it’s very fine & starts separating when it gets a bit greasy.

supersky · 15/10/2020 20:35

Once a week, sometimes I leave it longer. The less you wash it the less greasy your hair will be, at least that's how my hair has been. Try very gradually going longer between washes and eventually your hair will get used to it

Faerysmoke · 15/10/2020 20:43

I thought most ppl wash it daily but this thread proves otherwise. So are ppl showering daily but not washing hair? Or only showering every few days? A few ppl have mentioned being too lazy to wash it daily. It takes 2 mins max doesn't it? Not saying I think ppl should wash it daily but just feel like I am missing something and thinking that I might be doing it all wrong. Is it better to wash your hair less frequently?

I shower daily without fail but wash hair 2-3 days

smeerf · 15/10/2020 20:47

Several of my friends and I used lockdown to break the every day/every other day washing habit. We've all managed to stretch it to about a week and mine doesn't look bad! I wish I'd done this years ago.

Washing it isn't time consuming. Drying it is though.
dementedpixie · 15/10/2020 20:56

I shower daily, sometimes twice if I do an exercise class. I only wash my hair a couple of times a week. Washing hair is a faff and drying it takes too long

dementedpixie · 15/10/2020 20:57

And washing hair takes much longer than 2 minutes

XingMing · 15/10/2020 21:00

Shower and condition daily; wash with shampoo weekly. But I am old, with grey, dry, curly hair. And I use a an oil serum and other stuff to achieve defined curls. Shortish hair.

NoYouShutUp · 15/10/2020 21:00

Every morning in the shower, feels grubby if I don't. Short hair though, so it's kind of just an extension of washing my face.
