Comfy winter trousers

I'm trying to find a pair of comfy winter trousers with an elasticated waist. Something casual for everyday wear, but not so casual that it looks like I'm wearing my PJs outdoors Grin Can anyone recommend any?

Saint & Sofia

Zinnia · 14/10/2020 14:33

I'm about to go and pick up these John Lewis navy wide legs which I've been eyeing for ages but have gone into Erica Davies's edit so selling like hot cakes. They seem to be in stock in more sizes in black.

Otherwise (at the risk of mentioning them for the third time today) Baukjen's palazzo pants are lovely. I have a great pair of comfy wide leg cropped jersey trousers from Uniqlo but they don't seem to do quite the same style and fabric any more.

lonelySam · 14/10/2020 17:41

Saint & Sofia is not worth the money, I fell for the advertising campaign first time round. Don't make my mistake ;)

Love these cord leggings w.marksandspencer.com/cord-high-waisted-leggings/p/clp60459253?image=SD_01_T57_8888_F0_X_EC_90&color=PETROLGREEN&prevPage=srp

So warm and cosy, casual but can be dressed up. Have the black pair

I bought these Cos cords in black a few weeks ago, and love them so much I had the green delivered today.

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 00:37

Argh @Judystilldreamsofhorses I do not need any more cord trousers to obsess over!

I like the look of those cord ones. Are they comfy round the waist? I can't have anything too tight as still haven't lost the lockdown belly 😂

How do they come up up size-wise? Would you say order usual size or go up/down a size?

zinnia they are excellent cords!

meanwhile they have an elasticated bit at the back, but they are high waisted. I’m a UK 10 and always get 36 in Cos. I could have sized down in these for a neater fit.

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 11:17

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I've just ordered a very similar navy pair from M&S (which I've been stalking as they were out of stock) but I'd those don't work I'm sorely tempted by the Cos ones!

@MeanwhileTime I'm a 12-14 and usually go for a 40 in Cos trousers for the thighs comfort factor, though I do have pairs in a 38 as well as my waist is smallish. In that style I'd probably order both to be on the safe side.

Top tip for Cos/Arket returns by the way: having schlepped miles to my "nearest" Hermes shop (25 mins' walk) all through lockdown, I discovered if you go to the returns page on their websites you can download a label for Royal Mail or do the thing where they print it for you. Almost feel I should start a new thread for this info as a PSA for all the avid Cos/Arket/&OS fans on S&B! Grin

Badabingbadabum · 15/10/2020 11:21

Uniqlo. They also do smart wool ones which are lined and have an elastic waist, perfect for winter in the office! Or feeling smart and cosy sat at my laptop in the living room!

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 11:41

Can't believe I didn't see this before but M&S have pull-on wide leg cords in 4 colours and 3 lengths here but annoyingly two colours sold out already!

Did I mention I'm a bit obsessed with cords at the moment?

MikeUniformMike · 15/10/2020 11:46

Were these them, Zinnia? V. nice. Also a bit cord-obsessed at the mo. www.marksandspencer.com/jersey-corduroy-wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60459424?color=NAVY

Don't you find the wide leg trousers a bit draughty?

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 11:57

@MikeUniformMike snap!

Actually it wasn't those I bought though I might have done now, it was the "tapered ankle grazer" in navy. Sorry should have linked before!

DottyP · 15/10/2020 11:58

I’ve just bought some pull on trousers from H&M in a dark grey plaid pattern. Can’t link them but have drawstring waist and very comfy.

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 11:59

@homemadecommunistrussia I mostly only wear wide leg or balloon trousers (pear shape) but no I don't really have a problem with that. If I did I'd just wear socks I think.

goose1964 · 15/10/2020 12:00

At the other end of the price spectrum I have 2 pairs of these I've had the first pair for nearly 3 years and they're still going strong.

Would you wear these with ankle boots Judy? I love the look of them but don't want cold anklesSmile

I'm also considering the Whistles barrel leg jeans, I know you have love for them Grin

So I've just tried on the JL wide leg ones and can report that they are both true to size and very comfy, look really nice (full-length for a change - I have a 32" inside leg) but the fabric is a bit too thin for me and no pockets! So sadly I think they're going back.
