Comfy winter trousers

I'm trying to find a pair of comfy winter trousers with an elasticated waist. Something casual for everyday wear, but not so casual that it looks like I'm wearing my PJs outdoors Grin Can anyone recommend any?

I have those John Lewis trousers in both black & navy.
The are fabulously comfortable & wash really well.
I do wish they had pockets though.

Not sure I'd think of them as a winter trouser unless you are staying inside a heated house.
Although they have a little weight to them they are not really thick enough to be warm.
I've been wearing them this summer as I got them on sale early during lockdown.

EraOfTheGrey · 15/10/2020 13:26

I have these and they are so cosy and weighty. I also have these which are soft and so very comfortable.

Do I now need the curved legged corduroy culottes?

tinkyy · 15/10/2020 14:20

I love joggers/loose pants, but live in Canada! My trick is to wear the same pants year-round, but in winter I add fleece-lined tights underneath as needed. Super cozy, & super easy to slip off in the office bathroom if I get too hot once I'm back inside.

On slightly warmer days (or on days where I don't necessary want my tights peeking out at the ankles), leggings can work for this as well.

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 15:43

@Snugglepumpkin you did the right thing buying those trousers earlier in the year! I was eyeing them then but didn't press the button. They are lovely on, if the fabric were a bit weightier I'd keep them I think even with the (lack of) pocket issue.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2020 15:45

zinnia that is a great tip - I buy a lot from Monki, Cos, Stories, and Arket and the Hermes thing is insanely annoying.

gertrude I am not really an ankle boot person other than Chelsea boots with tights and skirts. I wear both the Whistles jeans (love them!) and the cords with either trainers or DM monkey boots, which are a bit lower than traditional DMs. Wear knee-high socks underneath! Honestly, that tip was offered to me by someone on Instagram and it was a revelation.

I do actually have bare ankles today, but have worn the black cords with black knee high socks, black jumper, and white Stan Smiths.

Fabulous autumn styling there Judy!

I think I just need to embrace having socks on show. It just feels wrong, but why? It's some kind of ingrained fashion rule throwback or something.

Zinnia · 15/10/2020 20:49

@Judystilldreamsofhorses are those the other Cos cords? The colour looks much nicer than it does on the website, actually green.

@GertrudeKerfuffle I wear socks a lot in autumn/winter, either plain black or patterned so it looks like they're meant to be on show. There just comes a point in the year when I can't face bare ankles any more.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2020 20:58

gertrude I like a gap, or a sock, not a sock and then a gap. So knee-length socks work for me, but not an ankle sock, then a bit of bare leg. And thank you - I walked through the park on my way home and couldn’t resist a #basic autumn photo for Instagram!

zinnia yes, they are described on the website as khaki but I think they are more a pistachio? I was surprised when I opened the parcel but really like it. I’ve tried them on with black, grey, and pale pink on top, and they look nice with each. (I realise the pink sounds horrible, but it’s a beautiful v-neck alpaca cardigan from Arket, and I put a grey marl t-shirt under it, with grey Adidas Continental 80 trainers.)

CeliaCanth · 15/10/2020 21:04

I’ve just bought some winter weight trousers from Robell. They’re fleecy lined, very comfortable and pretty smart as well.

Zinnia · 16/10/2020 00:05

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I wish I could wear those Arket cardis, they come in such gorgeous colours, but the shape looks all wrong on me.

I bought a pair of Ganni pink cords from the Outnet recently (in the spirit of the thread, they are very comfy albeit without an elastic waist. Also come in a very autumnal conker brown and a slim leg version) which was a bit out there for me until I realised they go with about 80% of the tops in my wardrobe. I absolutely love them, especially with green.

Tomasinabombadil · 16/10/2020 07:43

Try ‘Cotton Traders‘ and ‘Landsend‘

BlackberrySky · 16/10/2020 07:47

Hush hareem pants are great

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/10/2020 21:55

zinnia I have that cardi in three colours - I am quite hippy so suit a boxy slightly cropped top half. I am a terrible repeat buyer when I find something I really like.

Those cords are loveky! I have Cos ones from a few years back which are non-elastic waist, but still really comfy. (And I own them in navy, grey, teal, and sage green. 😳)

Goingdooolally · 16/10/2020 22:09

I just bought these fleece lined ones for outdoor stuff in the winter. It’s freezing where I live!

Zinnia · 22/10/2020 00:04

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I caved and bought those Cos cords in black. They are fabulous and I now have about 5 pairs of corduroy trousers. Total keeper, thanks for the recommendation!

Pusspot · 22/10/2020 07:54

I have two pairs of the M+S tapered ankle grazer trouser. They have an elastic/drawstring waist and four pockets. The fabric is soft but looks smart, and I think they work well with trainers. shoes and ankle boots.

Coconut2010 · 22/10/2020 08:39

@Goingdooolally I think I need a pair of these! Would you be able to tell me if they come up small/big/true to size. And what about the length? I am 5ft 7 and wondering if I need a R or a L. Thank you!

Goingdooolally · 22/10/2020 08:51

I’d say on the small size. Like more of a Topshop size than a M&S size. They have free returns though so you could get two sizes. I got the regular and I’m 5 foot 6.

Goingdooolally · 22/10/2020 08:54

So I’m a 8/10 and got the 28R which have a bit of room in the waist but will allow me to tuck in base layers etc... I normally wear a 27.

DianaT1969 · 22/10/2020 10:12

Look for Lyocell trousers in H&M. Amazingly soft. They usually come in khaki or green.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/10/2020 10:36

Ha, zinnia 👯‍♀️ - they are great, aren’t they?

Coconut2010 · 22/10/2020 10:46

@Goingdooolally Got it thank you. I think I’ll go for the 26R (I am a small size 8, 6 at M&S) so that should be perfect. I would be wearing them with boots most of the time so it doesn’t really matter if they are slightly too short! Which colour did you go for? I hesitate between the graphite/dark grey one or the kaki.

Goingdooolally · 22/10/2020 10:56

@Coconut2010 I just went for black.

Imtoooldforallthis · 22/10/2020 11:15

I have just bought these, they are surprisingly nice quality.
