I have 5
A black padded parka from Zara
A black faux fur coat
A cream teddy coat
A black aviator coat
A beige leather trench
I feel like I don't have enough coats and I get bored.
I'm on the look out for a nice light grey wool coat but I can't find any I love.
I want a one that is not too long and semi dressy.

I love coats and would like more......
Rohan rainproof walking jacket - don’t love it but it’s very good
Seasalt blue warm waterproof parka - do love that one
Uniqlo reddy brown short hooded puffer - wear a lot
Long length warm navy Puffer but only showerproof- wear when cold but I’ve since bought the seasalt one so I’m more loving that one at the moment
Long navy wool coat- not worn often - it’s smart
A short pink teddy type jacket
A purple pink multicoloured loose wool coat - not worn much at the moment but loathe to give away

Timeandtune · 10/10/2020 22:37

3 main ones
Navy joules waterproof quilted jacket.4 years old and going strong.
Hobbs dark green woollen coat. Just above knee length. 2 years old.
Black Gloverall pea coat . Wool but with some sort of rain resistant coating. Last year’s purchase. Love it.
Also a pale blue running jacket and a green waterproof Timberland cagoule type jacket which is over 10 years old.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 10/10/2020 22:52

I love coats, I thought I had loads but reading this thread maybe not! I have:

A big grey faux fur thing from topshop (second hand)
Leopard print one from Miss Selfridge (second hand)
A khaki Parka with leopard print lining from F and F (second hand)
A navy, thin Parka from Next
A grey and black wool coat from River Island
A Berghaus waterproof geek coat
I also have a purple pea coat from Asda, a faux leather biker jacket from River Island and a bright pink thin trench coat from Miss Selfridge but they are all that bit too small now but I don't want to throw them out!

Sasuma · 10/10/2020 22:53

Err probably too many!

1 smart classic waterproof trench from Macintosh
1 smart camel coat from MaxMara
1 smart grey wrap coat from The Curated
1 high end faux leather jacket from Dauntless
2 Parkas - both Parka London, green and black
1 short puffer from Save the Duck
2 faux fur, one lilac one black from Whistles
1 proper waterproof from North Face
1 casual waterproof from Rains
1 camel teddy coat from Whistles

Probably spent a fortune on coats and jackets over the years but most of them will last a long time and get used a lot.

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 23:12

And this thread has prompted me to order a Joules Dartwell for those queues. So make that 6.

FlatScreenTV01 · 10/10/2020 23:14

2

Anorak
Big puffer coat
Both 5 sizes too big now. Will need to replace soon.

Craftycorvid · 10/10/2020 23:51

Too many.....far too many. I have a bad eBay and charity shop habit. Some of mine are ‘occasion’ coats or vintage, some more practical.

QueenOllie · 11/10/2020 00:03

Er
2 camo jackets
A grey wool Merrell via TK maxx
Smart belted grey coat
Seasalt plant hunter
Lands end padded belted in black
Black waterfall leather
Grey suede biker

Not counting blazers/coatigans!

Waterproof coats mostly riding ones.. about 15 Blush mostly regatta and mountain horse

heathergem · 11/10/2020 08:10

I have the following :

Purple leather biker jacket
Navy blue leather jacket - smart
Brown leather jacket - casual

Cream Faux fur coat (to my hips)

Purple coat - 100% wool & much warmer
Blue wool coat - not worn this so much but I will this autumn

Black Barbour jacket with a hood for rainy days
2 x lightweight puffa jackets,
One really warm puffa which feels like you're wearing a duvet it's so warm.

I don't have any trench coats or macs,

Iseeyoulookingatme · 11/10/2020 08:17

7:
1 red boden wool coat
3 coatigans, black, blue and grey
1 green waterproof coat from tu
1 Black topshop leather jacket
1 blue barbour coat which I really don't wear anymore so I might donate it.

I would really like a houndstooth coat to add to the collection.

Sunshiney1981 · 11/10/2020 08:39

Gosh what a lot of coats you all have!
I don’t judge, I’m just a bit surprised lol.
I only have 3 autumn/winter coats:

A dressy wool coat - Maje
A warm waterproof parka - Didricksons
A wool duffel coat - Gloverall

Each one was expensive I guess but they cover all bases. I am a minimalist at heart.

(I do have two summer jackets too, a denim and a lightweight parka.)

Craftycorvid · 11/10/2020 10:25

Sunshiny I salute your minimalism, for I am a woman about whom the words ‘capsule wardrobe’ will never be uttered. I’d save myself so much space, energy and money if I could bring myself to buy little and good quality.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/10/2020 10:39

Jackets -
denim (M&S)
black/white houndstooth (H&M)
olive green light padded (cannot remember it is ancient)

Coats-
green parka (M&S via eBay BNWT)
green waterproof Trespass
navy long padded lightweight ( George Asda)
olive padded (Centigrade QVC)
black padded (Next- my new one not worn yet)
Leopardskin (M&S - that coat which was subject to great debate a couple of years ago. My DD hates it . I ony wear with everything else black, I am mid 50s , I can rock it !)

Zinnia · 11/10/2020 10:42

Genuinely interested in this: how do those of you with >5 autumn/winter coats make that work for all occasions?

I know I have far too many myself (wool coats in navy, grey check, burgundy, dark orange, plain grey; navy pea coat, two thick puffas - one short, one long - a couple of light puffas for base layers, one long parka one short. And a leather biker jacket plus a couple of autumn blazers and 3 trenches of diff lengths/colours. And a completely waterproof raincoat).

But some are years old, some are smart, some casual, different lengths work with different clothes (I wear long skirts a lot, and prefer wide leg trousers, so go either very short or very long for those). I'd love to know which coats work for all occasions. It's not something I've ever managed to crack!

I suppose I'm particularly asking this of people who have both "home" and "work" wardrobes.

OhTheRoses · 11/10/2020 10:58

I tend to wear my black M&S to work in Oct/Nov and the down coat in the cold months. Coatigans which I didn't include but are a staple in my wardrobe are worn a great deal Sept/Oct, Mar/April and loads inbetween.

My casual anorakky thing tends to be for weekends and the garden and really needs to be demoted to garden only.

My quality coat is kept for going out days to London, etc., or wearing to go to dinner and stuff.

The two coats I absolutely love and have had for years are Caroline Charles evening coats: one is black velvet and the newer one is beaded. They are fantastic for all smarter evening occasions - often over smart black trousers and on occasion jeans as well as a full blown posh frock affair. Alas not many of those at present.

I work full-time and drive to work. For work, my organisation at least, it would be inappropriate to wear a high quality coat and who would want to bung a really good coat on a hook all day.

My coats are all old except for the M&S one and the plan was to buy new this year but I won't because I can't get worked up about clothes during Covid.

I do think coats are something that you need to buy when you see the right one though rather than go out looking. I have talked myself out of a couple of fabulous coats over the years and have deeply regretted it.

Joeyandpacey · 11/10/2020 11:12

Anyone else have a ton of classy coats and only end up wearing the parka or is that just me? I have got rid of so many smart whistles, reiss, scandi and french brand coats over the years and just wear my Finisterre parka which I love/hate.

But to be fair I moved from a creative job in the city to hanging out with my toddler in the sticks. Some things you just can’t hold on to.

OhTheRoses · 11/10/2020 11:29

I used to have a double breasted Russian/military style long coat. Many a time it went on the nursery run with boots, hair in a messy bun and my nightie underneath when dd was a baby. Best coat I ever had! There were comme t's about how I was always immaculate Grin

Cocolapew · 11/10/2020 11:31

More than 20, some are more than 25 years old.
I've just bought 2 more 😖

Sunshiney1981 · 11/10/2020 19:14

@Zinnia
I think it very much depends on your lifestyle.
I wfh and just don’t need many coats. As long as I have a warm/waterproof one for walks/trips to the park with the kids and a smart one for going out I just have no need for more.
But if you’re out at work in lots of different outfits and locations then I can see you need more.
There’s no special secret but I am definitely of the mentality ‘buy less but buy quality’.
I’m like this with everything. I’m a natural born minimalist. I detest having too much stuff to keep track of and take care of.
Even my kids have capsule wardrobes 😆

PerfidiousAlbion · 11/10/2020 20:46

Loads as I always ‘make do’ as I can never find coats that I actually love.

Camel suede jacket
Grey suede jacket
Brown nubuck leather jacket
Black leather jacket
Navy padded gillet with hood
Grey suede gillet
Camel trench
Beige single breasted wool coat
Beige padded coat
Grey single breasted wool coat
Black pea coat
Red waterproof coat
Navy waterproof coat

The holy grail is a knee length camel wool coat, single breasted, with slanted, side pockets under £250. Everything seems to have awkward front pockets.

GreasyFryUp · 11/10/2020 20:52

13

That includes snowboard and cycling specific coats and an inherited fur.... Many second hand or bargains.

Love a coat.

Oly4 · 11/10/2020 22:08

Wool coat black
Wool coat navy
Short wool coat
Trench coats x 5
Down waterproof
Shorter down waterproof
Lightweight waterproof

NeedWineNow · 12/10/2020 13:54

Possibly too many.

Teal/green wool - Mint Velvet
Black very lightweight padded - Tu
Khaki padded (for when it gets COLD) - DKNY
Dark brown fake fur - C&A from charity shop
Leopard print unlined - Zara
Beige trench Mac - Massimo Dutti

In addition several jackets and coatigans.

Maybe I'd better have a sort out.

CoffeeInAnIV · 12/10/2020 13:59

Two parkas (one black, one khaki)
A tan Teddy coat
A black leather jacket

I'm in the market for a beige trench at the moment and a smart wool coat.
