simplyted · 10/10/2020 09:49

I have 5
A black padded parka from Zara
A black faux fur coat
A cream teddy coat
A black aviator coat
A beige leather trench
I feel like I don't have enough coats and I get bored.
I'm on the look out for a nice light grey wool coat but I can't find any I love.
I want a one that is not too long and semi dressy.

One. It's just a coat. It keeps me warm and dry. It has a hood. It has pockets. I unbutton the faux fur when it goes in the washing machine. We're all each other need.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 10/10/2020 13:12

Mental head count stands at 17.

Bloomburger · 10/10/2020 13:16

Long black puffa
Short thinner puffer
Navy boucle smart cocoon coat
Black boucle smart cocoon coat
Black leather aviator coat
Black short faux fur
Black teddy bear jacket

DH bought me a long down coat from Lululemon which hasn't yet arrived and I've got my eye on a pale grey coat from The White Company.

Got couple of denim jackets, a biker jacket and 3 raincoats.

I love a coat.

WonderMoon · 10/10/2020 13:30

I have 7...
A long dark navy fake shearling one from Zara - my fave, had this one a few years.
A long dark grey wool one from Zara
Padded khaki nylon puffa from Topshop
Camel unlined one from Zara, nice layering piece
Borg lined denim jacket from Topshop.
Leopard print duster jacket from Asos
A Northface blk puffa - for when we go walking etc

Zara is my fave for coats, they always have a great selection.

Devlesko · 10/10/2020 13:32

One, just a black jacket (hooded) and very warm.

kowari · 10/10/2020 13:36

I have two, a lightweight padded jacket and a longer warmer padded jacket I would wear if I have to go out at night in the winter, both black.

ArranBound · 10/10/2020 13:38

I have 4 woollen coats, royal blue, navy, black and burgundy. These are what I'd consider winter coats. I also have 3 trenches, 2 in shades of pink one long & 1 short, and 1 black short one. I have a denim blazer which is great for autumn and a pink, faux suede biker jacket, too. I think that's it, apart from half a dozen or so blazers and a few denim jackets.

I dont particularly like waterproof jackets but I pinch one of my husband's if need be.

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 13:48

A teal double breasted cloth coat from Laura Ashley. Looks great on but not at all warm.

Old black berghaus jacket. Rarely worn. Was a mumsnet product test, many moons ago.

Green Seasalt coat that I just don't like. Let's in the wind and the hood lining frizzies my hair.

Green berghaus parka. Pretty warm and doesn't let the wind in. Great for blizzards but heavy and stiff.

My day to day coat is a semi-fitted navy barbour coastal parka. Smart but properly water and wind proof. Not too warm for day to day wear. Crap in a blizzard.

I'm contemplating investing in a down type jacket in anticipation of spending the winter having to queue for shops. Our local retail park is always windy.

Franticbutterfly · 10/10/2020 13:49

0, as the pocket ripped on mine and I chucked it out (can't sew).

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/10/2020 13:52

I have two that currently fit - a full length, military style navy blue wool one, and a green parka. But I also have three really lovely ones which are now too big - a grey sheepskin, a double-breasted grey cashmere, and a single breasted navy tweed.

Oh, and a full length white faux fur that I bought when DD was tiny and I was severely sleep deprived because it made me feel like the Snow Queen! Grin

ageingdisgracefully · 10/10/2020 16:31

A lilac Monki oversized coat.
Another Monki oversized coat - olive green.
A thin khaki parka.
A Levi's cotton coat in green.
Another Monki coat in khaki.
An Adidas nylon jacket (came with the house) .

I love 💗 a coat.

JayeAshe · 10/10/2020 16:36

@InTheLongGrass

Err, 2. One waterproof does everything, one wool for when I need to look smart whilst freezing my ass off.
One waterproof coat (grey and vaguely presentable), and a big warm, fluffy (but old) navy blue one, Originally from the men's department at C&A Blush
Janegrey333 · 10/10/2020 19:47

greytminds · 10/10/2020 19:54

This is just the kind of enabling thread I need. Smile

I have:

  • an AllSaints monument wool coat (a decade old and starting to get tatty but well loved).
  • a Jigsaw wool herringbone long coat
  • a Protected Species commuter
  • Uniqlo light down hooded puffa
  • a random local brand Norwegian down filled parka bought in Copenhagen that is amazingly warm.

I have loads of old cheap waterproof jackets jackets for dog walking and some lightweight trench coats for work.

I don’t feel like I have enough coats. I need one or two more nice ‘everyday coats’ as the top three on my list are work/smart coats and I have little need for them at the moment! Life is mostly about muddy walks with a toddler at the moment!

Crazymemo · 10/10/2020 19:56

1 denim jacket
1 zara trench
1 short puffer (not so warm for autumn)
2 ski jackets (most worn)
4 long/knee wool coats for work (camel, grey, navy, black)
1 autumn coat (collarless) work
1 long Zara puffer (deep winter fave for work)
Blush
Tbf some of the wool coats are 20 years old

I came here to ask a question as I'm dithering whether to add a thigh length faux fur coat. I cant quite justify it as I'm not going to work much and maybe it's a bit much both for work or weekends. What do you ladies think?

caringcarer · 10/10/2020 20:00

I have 7.
A maroon wool mid calf coat with collar
A navy wool mid calf coat with collar
A camel wool coat goes just under my bottom.
A red wool coat goes just under my bottom with black faux fur collar
A parka with hood
A waterproof thin kagool with hood
A faux fur black coat I bought for my Mums funeral and not worn since.
I have a lot of jackets too about 8.

terreyyy · 10/10/2020 21:16

@Crazymemo my motto is always treat yourself.
So I would say go for it if you really want it.

OhRosalind · 10/10/2020 21:26

@Crazymemo I would also say go for it. Depending on the style I think fake fur can be dressed down and suitable for every day - I love the fur coat, jeans and flat boots look a la Kate Moss. And mid-thigh is a good length, more practical than a cropped one which leaves you with a freezing bum. It sounds like lots of your coats are for work/practical, why not add something different if you fancy it.

Destinysdaughter · 10/10/2020 21:30

Lots, at least 20, Inc 4 fake fur coats. Think that's not unreasonable considering 6 months of the year is crap weather, so you need coats for Autumn and Spring when it can be mild but wet and winter when it can be v cold. Especially if you don't drive and have to shiver at bus stops ( well that's my excuse anyway!) Smile

Destinysdaughter · 10/10/2020 21:32

52GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal ooh I NEED to see your white faux fur coat!!

MillieVanilla · 10/10/2020 21:37

5
I have a long padded parka with hood
A thinner shirt type parka
A black wool smart coat that's knee length
A vintage 80s houndstooth check wool coat that is thigh length
And a vintage faux fur waist length jacket (that DD constantly steals).

ChelseeDagger · 10/10/2020 21:40

Ooooh let me count...
Well my late father's Burberry trench from the eighties
A crimson cashmere and wool blend long cape type thing
Baby pink leather jacket
A Preen duffle coat with flower print and a big fur hood
Green Henry Holland parka with pink fur trim
Short padded North face Jacket
Black superdry windcheater
Laura Ashley green spotted raincoat
Dennis Basso snow Leopard faux fur
Black formal coat from Next (funerals etc)
I think that's it, so ten.

I'm sure I need another on though!

JMAngel1 · 10/10/2020 21:41
