I think it's beautiful OP. There will be parties in the future, even if you don't get to wear it much this year. I say buy it while it's on sale - when we are all allowed out again, Christmas party dresses will be expensive because everyone will need new ones

AgnesNaismith · 09/10/2020 08:28

Oh yeah, I’m dressing up on Christmas Day!! Go for it OP!

I like to wear red because I feel there is little other opportunity so buy a nice new dress each year. This year I’m going to wear this dress. It is much nicer in the flesh and very forgiving for the Christmas Day bloat! I’ll use fake tan and red lipstick and that’ll be that!

a dressing gown?

Parker231 · 09/10/2020 08:36

@katienana - we usually have a full house staying Christmas week - my parents, sister and her family come over from Belgium, DH’s parents from Canada and his sister and her family from the US. Six DC’s between us - all late teens or early 20’s. No different in the morning with showers but then into favourite PJ’s. My MIL loves it and coordinates her Pj’s with her socks. The aim is to be comfy and very relaxed - no rules on Christmas Day!

SmileyClare · 09/10/2020 09:03

Supercafra Your decorations are amazing. You've even got Santa there in the corner reading the paper Grin

I always like to make an effort on Christmas day even if that's just a nice top, hair blow dried, make up and Christmas nails. Those little things make me happy.

MysweetAudrina · 09/10/2020 09:12

@Supercafragalisticexpialidocio love your table settings. I think I would prefer my table to be better dressed than me on Xmas day. I understand the sentiment of wanting to be dressed up but comfort and practically usually win over with me.

BiteyShark · 09/10/2020 09:13

I think Christmas Day is for doing what you want whether that is dressing up or lounging about in pjs.

OP if you like it wear it Grin

Supercafragalisticexpialidocio · 09/10/2020 09:23

After I have spent ages doing table decorations, I usually put on something fairly smart, but definitely with an elasticated waist ( or no waist)! :)

onwheels · 09/10/2020 09:28

i like it and i dont think its cruise singer. we are a smart top, big jewellery and jeans type of family, the guys tend to do a smarter shirt with jeans

KateCantab · 09/10/2020 09:55

@Lardilizard Fab dress! Go for it! Thank you for this post.
We will be at home (as usual) and we also make an effort to dress nicely. Youngest DD (17) will hopefully still want to wear her knitted Santa dress that I got in Primark two years ago. Maybe not. DH and DS usually wear smart jeans and a new(ish) shirt. DD1 will also arrive dressed smartly, probably in whatever ASOS has delivered the day before.
I had a look in my wardrobe and and I’m going to revive a 15 year old Monsoon dress. I’d forgotten about it, but it’s ideal for Christmas Day as it’s quite loose. It’s cream, black and red with bronze beading. Knee length with long sleeves and tie waist (adjustable). I’ll wear it with nude tights and some new black Boden low heeled shoes I picked up in the sale.
Can I mention tights? I usually wear opaque ones at work, so for me, sheer tights make me feel more dressy. Because I don’t wear them often, I pay a bit more so they are comfortable and fit nicely. I rate M and S Autograph for this.

Gorgeous dress @Auroborea, love the colour!

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/10/2020 12:09

I always think it looks (and feels) bit awkward to be at home in party clothes on the sofa and padding around on the carpet- for me it feels a bit contrived, not to mention unnecessarily uncomfortable.

I definitely wouldn't wear pyjamas all day either, unless I was unwell. I don't know why it seems to need to be one extreme or the other. I usually just wear normal clothes, something vaguely festive if I have it or am seeing others for socialising. I'd probably change if I was actually going out.

Some lovely dresses though, and each to their own. We should all be doing ehat makes us feel good/happy/is mood boosting!

ApolloandDaphne · 09/10/2020 12:15

I would set the house on fire as those sleeves are ripe for an inferno as they waft over a candle, or more likely the gas stove as I am cooking the sprouts! I am more a comfy outfit sort of gal on Christmas Day.

peachgreen · 09/10/2020 12:18

I've got a black velvet wrap dress with copper glitter and will be very happily wearing that with opaques and slippers! It's beautiful but also stretchy and comfortable - the perfect Christmas combo. I like to be a bit dressed up, it makes it feel more special and justifies the Prosecco I drink while I'm cooking lunch!

VictoriaBun · 09/10/2020 12:27

I'll be wearing hiking gear. We always get out into the hills on Christmas day ( blizzards excluding !)
Love to be on the top of a hill/ mountain eating sandwiches during the day knowing we have something warming and delicious cooking in the slow cooker for when we get back home.

Lardlizard · 09/10/2020 15:03

Supercafra, oh I love them decs, is that your house in the photo, the one worh the man in a red jumper ? If so I see he got the memo to match the decor ! Love it Grin

I'm totally going to be getting dressed up this year BUT a word of warning, I used to have a top with slashed sleeves from the shoulder to wrist and it was really bloody annoying for anything other than looking cool on the dance floor. I would never attempt a meal with them!

userxx · 09/10/2020 15:30

@LivingDeadGirlUK I disagree, I think it would come in very useful to stash a few pigs-in-blankets for a snack later on ;)

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/10/2020 15:37

@userxx we would have to live in some alternative universe where there are leftover pigs in blankets though!

Lardlizard · 09/10/2020 21:22

I always have pugs in blankets even with a normal roast
!!

Thus thread is making me consider a wardrobe change throughout the day. I bought a fabulous outfit for a wedding a few years back and that is the only time I've worn it. It's not traditional wedding attire... I might dig it out!

Except I have the skirt instead of the trousers, it's a beautiful full skirt with proper pockets, and I shortened the jacket sleeves to 3/4. Oooh, I'm excited to wear it again!

Poppyolive90 · 09/10/2020 22:25

I think it’s lovely. I really like to make the day special and think it’s nice to all dress up nicely, feels like a real occasion. I think it’d take the shine off the day if we all spent it in pjs/scruffs but each to their own.
