Affordable kids 100% waterproof coat

Can anyone help ?

Looking for affordable, 100% waterproof and warm coats for my children. We walk to school everyday and “water resistant” doesn't cut it.

I don’t really want to spend any more than £40 on each coat but looking online at usual brands like regatta, trespass etc I can’t seem to find any that are waterproof AND look good.

How old are they? I like Frugi or Hatley for waterproof coats, or Jojo Maman Bebe. Jojo only go up to 5-6, but Frugi go up to age 10 in most things. Lands end have some nice ones too which are insulated.

Waterproof set off amazon, £15

northnorth · 04/10/2020 23:07

Thanks ! They are 3 and 5....we always end up getting soaked in the 10 min walk to school 😬 I haven’t looked at Hatley or Lands end

I guess it depends which matters most to you.

I got this Trespass jacket in a sale last autumn and it's been brilliant. Very easy to spot in the playground too Grin

Bought this one for my son and it's great!

Hatley are amazing, I can highly recommend them for wet walks to school. Each of mine have one and they last well and look good Grin

LightOfAThousandStars · 04/10/2020 23:18

Lands End Squall Coats are very good. For my toddler though we buy Jojo Maman ones because they are more comfortable at that age.

AltCarbon · 04/10/2020 23:38

Decathlon are amazing for outdoor gear. These are our current school run coats - warm, waterproof and hi-vis too for dark winter mornings. www.decathlon.co.uk/p/100-boys-warm-sailing-oilskin-yellow/_/R-p-166616 We usually size up though as find they tend to run small.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 04/10/2020 23:40

Hatley. We've had one that's been through 3 children and been in use over 6 years, and it's still completely waterproof and looks pretty good.

Crabbo · 04/10/2020 23:43

Spotty otter are expensive but they often come up on ebay. Lots of the kids at my daughters forest school wear the lidl ones but I don’t think they’re padded so probably need a separate fleece underneath.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 05/10/2020 08:55

Hatley are great as are polaryn o pyret - John Lewis often have in the end of season sale - they came up very big for us (POP) and so lasted ages. We’ve also really liked Joules (eBay store for bargains)

northnorth · 05/10/2020 12:42

Thanks everyone -really good suggestions I’ve never properly looked at before ! I’ll be on the hunt when the kids are in bed later today.

Mountain warehouse have done that are very waterproof and can have a separate fleece zipped in. They tend to come in plain coloureays but are very good value and are extremely waterproof. Function over looks if you’re using them regularly in proper rain not just a bit of drizzle between yard and car

gassylady · 05/10/2020 13:02

Should say I always choose function over looks

MeanMrMustardSeed · 05/10/2020 13:06

Muddy Puddles. They are absolutely brilliant. Great resale value too.

Fairybatman · 05/10/2020 13:08

Try mountain warehouse. I really rate their outdoor stuff and use them a lot for both myself and DS.

I have a load of coats I’m going to put on my local Facebook group for a fiver each. So I’d recommend you look on your local FB selling pages first. Depending on the age of the child most of the time these costs are good as new.

RemyHadley · 05/10/2020 13:09

Lidl is good.

movingonup20 · 05/10/2020 13:09

Mountain warehouse is a good bet. Look for a 10,000 rating. Fashion brands are generally useless

AldiAisleofCrap · 05/10/2020 13:26

Defini

beakyboo10 · 05/10/2020 13:30

I have to agree that Mountain Warehouse coats are brilliant, especially the one Fairybatman has put the link to (my son has the grey/red version). My son is 7 now and this is the third time we have purchased the 3 in 1 coats. They have been used at forest school and are super warm and waterproof.

sanitygirl · 05/10/2020 13:51

Decathlon or Mountain Warehouse

sleepfortheweek · 05/10/2020 14:48

Another bite for Mountain Warehosue, very reasonably priced. DD1 is about to get her third winter out of one of them and then it'll go to DD2 🤣

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 05/10/2020 17:36

Skiwear, Sports Direct normally haves kids jackets for about £20

Rainybows · 05/10/2020 18:04

Wet Wednesdays are brilliant. The fleece lined ones are really warm and completely waterproof.
