Affordable kids 100% waterproof coat

Can anyone help ?

Looking for affordable, 100% waterproof and warm coats for my children. We walk to school everyday and “water resistant” doesn't cut it.

I don’t really want to spend any more than £40 on each coat but looking online at usual brands like regatta, trespass etc I can’t seem to find any that are waterproof AND look good.

NEXT. Do nice ones and they wash well.

Tomasinabombadil · 05/10/2020 18:34

I’m putting out an idea here, shout me down if I’m being silly🤔

Something I’ve purchased for my adult use in heavy rain whilst dog walking, I stay absolutely bone dry & I can carry a crossbody bag underneath for doggy essentials.

A poncho, they’re made of waterproof coated PVC and are roomy enough to wear with light or heavy clothing depending how warm or cold it is and even cover a backpack if your child carries one. There are some lovely fun designs & colours available for little people.🙂

I wish that some of the designs were in adult sizes.😂

I get tge waterproof coats and trousers that lidl sell every couple of months and ivve never had a problem with them. Dd went to a forest school nursery and she never got a damp bum sitting out all day

Trailing1 · 05/10/2020 18:38

Mountain warehouse coats are good.

Shevvy94 · 05/10/2020 18:40

Go outdoors have a massive sale on at the moment and there are some really nice kids ones that are waterproof

Iambouddicca · 05/10/2020 18:41

For just rainproof then Lidl are great. If you want warm as well then decathlon do a super warm waterproof coat for about £35

Flamingle18 · 05/10/2020 18:55

I recently got a berghaus coat for my son which was reduced from £90 to £45 then I got an extra 20% off for being a national trust member. Also applies if child in Cubs etc. That was in Millets

HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/10/2020 19:03

I like Frugi as they are lined and cosy, waterproof, bright colours and reflective strips for good visibility, and made of recycled materials. Winner!

My kids are both in second hand ones that look brand new.

I buy This John Lewis coat for DS. It starts at age 2 and comes up big, I think. This is his second winter out of it and it is going strong. I will be passing it down to Ds2. The fur isn’t detachable but it stays looking good (not like a dead beaver!) despite washing over and over again. It is really warm. Ds walks to and from school and has never got wet through. Red or navy.

nevernotstruggling · 05/10/2020 19:18

I was also impressed with hatley I must flog our last one.

We buy coats for dog walks from mountain warehouse they are v reasonable I can't fault them. Easier to order online the shop is a bit stressful!

Makinglists · 05/10/2020 19:20

Lidl do fantastic waterproof coats and trousers - a bit like Hayley but very cheap and durable. They normally do them in sizes 2-4, 4-6 and 6-8. Can't praise them more highly.

Blibbler · 05/10/2020 19:22

Didricksons are slightly more (I've just paid £60 for my 9 yr old for the warmest 180gsm weight) but I've bought Didrikson coats since toddlers. I get 4 years wear by the time the coat has been handed down to my younger DC. And the resale value is good too. You might be able to get a smaller sizes for just under 50.

delilahbucket · 05/10/2020 19:27

Have a look at Tog24.

Cheerybigbottom · 05/10/2020 19:28

I got my Ds a fantastic waterproof 3 in 1 coat from
Mountain warehouse for £35 (though they often have money off offers). Size up

Cheerybigbottom · 05/10/2020 19:30

Oh yep the 3 in 1 coat I bought is the same one a posted earlier by pp, but diff colour. When I clicked on the link it gave me
A 10% off pop up too. Again, I recommend you size up. Grin

SpaceRaiders · 05/10/2020 19:37

I’d recommend Polarn O Pyret. They have a fantastic range of winter all weather gear. Most of their stuff is unisex and they’re made with long cuffs, which can either be folded up or rolled down meaning it does lasts longer than most other brands. Then once you’re done with it, the resale value on eBay is pretty good.

NaomiLeigh · 05/10/2020 20:20

Another vote for Polarn O Pyret. Gorgeous and have lots of practical little features you wouldn’t otherwise think of! And they last forever so secondhand ones on eBay are usually still in really good condition

Paddingtonthebear · 05/10/2020 20:23

Muddy puddles when in the sale, really good

RettyPriddle · 05/10/2020 20:26

Boden ski jackets are waterproof and warm

Gwladiz · 05/10/2020 20:55

Have a look on Vinted, just brought my son's winter coat as he had a growth spur, £10 for a Joules warm coat and just 0.99 for shipping as they have a special rate at the minute.

LouH1981 · 06/10/2020 09:56

I am an absolute stickler for buying waterproof (not showerproof as is often described) and for the last couple of years I’ve bought my son’s coats from Matalan. Full price they are around £25 and are warm and with taped seams so completely waterproof. We both have Gelert anoraks which are great. (I spent my birthday in June last year in torrential rain in Wales and it kept me dry as a bone) Sports Direct stock a lot of Gelert coats so reasonable in price. His snow suit is Regatta and he’s tested that to the max and it’s always proved to be watertight.

supercalifragilistic123 · 06/10/2020 12:18

I just invested in Spotty Otter for my two. They are brilliant.
I got them in the sale from little trekkers. Plus code fiveminutemum gave an extra 15% off

I spent £75 for two sets. One puddlesuit and a coat and dungarees combo.

rbe78 · 06/10/2020 12:28

Craghoppers are properly waterproof and a bit more stylish than regatta etc.
