I saw a competition in Facebook with that huge l'occitane calendar as a prize. I am not sure if I would open it or sell it if I were to win it.

frogface69 · 17/10/2020 16:56

I am having a good wobble over the Amazon calendar.
I won’t use the make up, but everything else I would. Wasn’t convinced at first, but after a closer look and keeping in mind the swap thread to look forward to.. eek.
What to do ? Does it usually go into the Black Friday sale ?

happytobemrsg · 17/10/2020 17:15

The problem is I hate spoilers!! I’ve missed out on Space NK now because I’m dithering too much 🤬

foilflower · 17/10/2020 17:49

I ordered the LF in September and I’ve forgotten everything apart from one item despite looking in detail at the contents!

EatPrayYoga · 17/10/2020 17:55

I'm exactly the same foilflower which is perfect assuming it arrives

LalaDipsey · 17/10/2020 18:58

Any idea on the Lumene beauty one from LF? I have missed out on the M&S (so disappointed it's not on this year), the LF one and the ASOS one... I've never heard of the brand but it sounds nice.....

EatPrayYoga · 17/10/2020 19:01

Lumene has been very popular but I thought it had sold out.

TheQuietWoman · 17/10/2020 19:01

Lala I have only heard fantastic things about the Lumene brand and calendar. I have tried a few of their things and enjoyed them so splashed out on the calendar this year. Mainly because I love skin care and have all the make up I need so don't want that. I have also got the Elemis one.

chloechloe · 17/10/2020 19:18

lala I’ve bought the Lumene one off the back of this thread although I had never heard of the brand before (such a sheep!). Salli Hughes rates their products if that’s any help!?

LalaDipsey · 17/10/2020 19:19

Ooh that sounds positive thank you. It's in stock right now. I was just looking at the Amazon one as well but fancied something new if it was any good!
Thank you Smile

marveloustimeruiningeverything · 17/10/2020 20:03

I have the Lumene calendar. Bought it the past two years; I really like their products.

Ginsmything · 17/10/2020 20:06

Update. I was led to believe from an email on Wednesday that I would receive my LF advent calendar either yesterday or today...so far so nothing and this is from my latest email 😔

Housewife2010 · 17/10/2020 20:13

I've had the Lumene advent calendar for the last two years and it was excellent. I didn't bother this year because it was too similar to the previous years. The skincare is excellent and I had some great makeup items from it too which I'm still using.

Argh, took my eye off the ball with the men's calendars. Looked at Next after seeing someone say on here it had sold out, and the men's one is also showing sold out. Is that it, no more stock at all? I asked in a store today and the assistant said they hadn't had any in yet and congratulated me for starting so early (I resisted the urge to tell them about this thread...) Have they just gone on sale online and there's no plan to actually send any to stores, I wonder?

In (slightly) better news, maybe, LF took payment for my calendar on Friday, so I assume that means there's one with my name on it somewhere!

YellowBeryl1 · 17/10/2020 23:08

The Lumene and the rituals advent calendar are on John Lewis now, plus lots of others.

Ayupmeduck · 17/10/2020 23:12

Does anyone know when the Mac one will be released? 🧐

RedComb · 17/10/2020 23:54

Is there anyone else who's a little dishearten by the ridiculous cost of the advent calendars these days? For the first couple of years, you could get decent calendars, with 24 products, for £30-50. Now you can barely find anything for less than £100. The No7 one was disappointing after all the hype and the Holland and Barrett one is now sold out. Sad

RedComb · 17/10/2020 23:56

Meant to add that I looked at the Arran Aromatics one but for a brand that has so many different products, why is the vast majority of the calendar shampoo/condition/lotion/body wash? It looks more like an advent calendar of freebies you get at a hotel. A shame as if it had more variety then it would have been a contender.

EatPrayYoga · 18/10/2020 00:03

RedComb Many people have missed the M&S one but otherwise there are a few in different price ranges.

The Boots Macmillan one has been £42 for a while, soap and glory, Revolution etc are usually in that price range/

I'm sorry you missed Holland & Barrett. I ordered it purely based on this thread don't know whats in it

Housewife2010 · 18/10/2020 02:46

Re Holland & Barrett, it's worth checking in store. Last year I picked one up in my local branch a couple of weeks after it sold out online.

I got what must have been one of the first beauty advent calendars, in 2012 (definitely no later, anyway). A Selfridges one, and it cost £60! Bought it as it was a totally new idea back then - there was absolutely no choice from elsewhere!

Housewife2010 · 18/10/2020 06:44

The You Latest in Beauty Advent started in 2011. I bought it for the first few years. It used to be about £60, I think. I know that this year Latest in Beauty have said that it is their 9th year. They don't really have an advent calendar this year ( even though they are referring to it as one.) It's really a large beauty box of 24 products. You and Latest in Beauty have now separated and You have their own calendar now.

The Fragrance Shop have a calendar on pre-order at £69.50 it has mix of perfume, make up and skincare: www.thefragranceshop.co.uk/the-fragrance-shop/the-fragrance-shop/advent-calendar/p/52962

AprilLady · 18/10/2020 08:17

I agree that there seem fewer options at lower price points, in particular the £50 to £70 range. One of the reasons LF is so popular I think. I also remember getting a pretty decent calendar for around that from Selfridges 2 or 3 years ago.

For those of you like me who are determined not to buy any more calendars, I recommend watching Cosmetopia’s spoof “Nightmare calendar” unboxing, where she has put together what she considers the worst ever beauty calendar. She has pretty much nailed it!

Housewife2010 · 18/10/2020 08:43

AprilLady
Cosmetopia is great. I've seen that video. She is so refreshing in that if she doesn't think much of an advent calendar she tells you. She's the polar opposite of YouTubers like Eltoria who squeal with excitement at the contents of every drawer.
