Wanting to be “dressed up” everyday?

MsAnnFrope · 02/10/2020 19:00

I’m sitting here in skinny jeans and v neck sweater, hair in a pony tail, no make up.
Is it wrong to want to wear dressy clothes in lovely fabrics every day? I’ve seen a gorgeous dress on eBay, Hobbs, silk, lovely colour. Does anyone look dressed up everyday, even when you are just wfh and doing the school run. Casual just feels so blah to me now!
Even if it was just wearing a cashmere sweater dress with silky tights the idea seems so appealing to me!

Please tell me I’m not alone??

I agree, I really miss wearing my blazers and boots now that I am WFH every day. Also jewellery. I love jewellery but it kind of feels superfluous at home. I still wear it though!

Angrymum5 · 02/10/2020 19:04

Yes me too OP!!

Susannahmoody · 02/10/2020 19:06

I really want to! I've seen tons of dresses etc but had to resist buying them as I have nowhere to wear them to?

I try and dress nicely, jeans, shirt, heels etc if only for doing the school run. I miss wearing skirts and heels

MsAnnFrope · 02/10/2020 19:12

I’ve found my people! And indeed @Audreyseyebrows why not? I mean I’ll probably not instigate ball dress Friday (although I’m tempted) but from tomorrow I’m going to try it for a week and see how I feel!
Might give the heels a miss when I’m hiking but otherwise I’m going for the glam. I might even get my eye liner out 😂

I went out in a cashmere knitted dress today, not much effort but felt much more polished compared to the ultra casual dressing of the summer.

MsAnnFrope · 02/10/2020 19:15

And you are right @AuldFox it’s not harder to put on a dress tights and nice boots than jeans, old t shirt and trainers!

I made a point of buying summer clothes that made me feel good this year even though we were mostly locked in. I'm very much a tomboy but really enjoyed wearing dresses most days.

Now trying to find a winter wardrobe that makes me feel just as good

SmileyClare · 02/10/2020 19:23

It puts me in a good mood to make an effort. I like a dressed down dressed up if that makes sense. So I'll wear makeup and a jumper dress but wear flats or wear jewellery with a fitted jumper and jeans and straighten my hair.

You could dress up your jumper and skinny jeans with a chunky bracelet and lipstick, do your nails. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

My neighbour told me she sometimes wears her wedding tiara round the house so I was reassured I'm not the only one that gets dressed up for no reason whatsoever Grin

NiceGerbil · 02/10/2020 19:25

Why not? If it makes you happy :)

BlackberrySky · 02/10/2020 19:33

@SmileyClare ooh, I hadn't thought of that! We could have Wedding Dress Wednesday!

SmileyClare · 02/10/2020 19:36

Ah ha. I've never owned a wedding dress but do have an old bridesmaids dress. Perhaps "Wedding wear" Wednesday so we're all included Wink

MsAnnFrope · 02/10/2020 19:52

Ooh I have a lovely pearl tiara for wedding wear Wednesday!

Not every day but more often than not I get dressed up just because I need an outlet for my creativity. I know that sounds wanky but it’s true. I work from home, I do the school run and that’s about it. It makes me happy and I feel much bouncier and bright because of it.

Where the lovely dress/earrings/necklace today!

DorisDaisyMay · 02/10/2020 19:54

Wear

NameChange84 · 02/10/2020 19:56

Not at all. I’m not a jeans/leggings and hoodie girl at all. I wear dresses and heels most of the time and feel comfortable. Even when working from home. Wear what makes you happy. Life’s too short not to wear the nice things.

Divebar · 02/10/2020 19:59

Well can you handle the extra gentle handling that you will need to give your clothes ? You could get some slouchy cashmere sweaters to wear with some suitable sports luxe trousers ( draw string maybe? ) and some slightly nicer than average trainers. You don’t have to be dressy to feel special if the fabrics are good.

Minnie747 · 02/10/2020 20:08

You are also my people!! Apart from when I’m in doing an activity or working out, I’m dressed up. Just makes me feel good. Sometimes my friends ask how I can be comfortable lounging when ‘dressed up’, but I’m comfortable like that.

MsAnnFrope · 02/10/2020 20:11

Yes @Minnie747 I feel comfortable in lovely fabrics or a swishy skirt.
Totally agree that it is an outlet for creativity. I have a wardrobe full of dresses and skirts but yet I’m wearing jeans which on my short and curvy size 12 bod are not the most flattering item!!

@SmileyClare

I love looking good but in a kind of nonchalant way if that makes sense. I used to regularly go out in the evening (in my twenties) in a vest top, boyfriend jeans and leather plimsoles, I'd do very understated makeup with good lashes and make sure my hair was shiny bed head hair and I would always always get so many complements, more than if I'd dressed up. My style and taste has moved on somewhat but for me the principle still stands

hiredandsqueak · 02/10/2020 21:02

Dd is and always has done. Even though she is working from home and looking after dgs she is in a dress and tights, hair styled and make up on. She's never been one to wear jeans or leggings, has worn a dress or skirt pretty much every day of her life. She says she feels like she can manage anything when she is dressed well.

gindinner · 02/10/2020 21:19

I'm also fed up of lock down dressing OP
I'm taking
It one day at a time, back to normal. I've sorted out my dresses and tights today, jut for this reason. But today was awful weather so I wore my workout gear, with hiking boots and my faux fur jacket. I told myself my jacket glams me up a bit. I did manage to wear earrings though, and lipstick. Not sure I looked great but it made me feel better.

Nacreous · 02/10/2020 21:22

I'm not really into make up or doing my hair, and I wear leggings underneath for warm at home but I still pretty much get dressed up in a nice dress every day even though I'm working from home. I am also short and curvy and a size 14 and am definitely best served by dresses.

Srictlybakeoff · 02/10/2020 21:27

Yep. I’ve bought lots of dresses for winter and am determined to wear them, even tho I’m retired and won’t be going anywhere. im just so sick of my skinny jeans. I wash my hair every day and wouldn’t be seen downstairs without makeup on .
