Does Boden want anyone wise to 'preorder for Spring'?

I'll get a huge 25% off their (inflated) prices for clothes which are exactly the same as last Spring. In slightly different colours. Available fro January.

They are obviously doing whatever they can to get some cash in the bank. I can't imagine it's been a great year for them, or for similar retailers.

Unfortunately for them, I still have clothes with the tags on from last spring, having discovered it's possible for a yoga all in one to give a solid week of wear ( for Zoom meetings, add decorative scarf)....

The ‘Boden Preview’ sales have been running seasonally for years. I’d assumed it was primarily a mechanism by which they can gauge demand for each design, and thus help predict required stock levels before they go into full production (although no doubt it helps them to generate some additional sales).

Fokarfina · 19/09/2020 10:40

The AW offering is absolute shite, and it’s still summer weather in London...so no, I’m not excited about Spring 2021 clothes 😆

nevertrustaherdofcows · 19/09/2020 14:50

Err ... do you have the link?

nevertrustaherdofcows · 19/09/2020 15:01

Found it in a thread below. I must say, it was all very interchangeable with every other year. Plus, their sizing is so all-over-the-place now that I'm reluctant to buy before I see the reviews

anon444877 · 19/09/2020 15:02

The previews used to be good but I’ve noticed that they are doing mini releases these last few years rather than 4 distinct phases. I used to love them and still order a fair bit but it’s fair to say the last year hasn’t been their best style wise.

I wish they’d do some of the styles they did back in the early days as a re-issue.

anon444877 · 19/09/2020 15:09

Have they lost some good designers in recent years? The prints seem more generic than other years.

Terrible.

Blondiney · 19/09/2020 17:04

Oh dear no, there's some right drooping looking rags in there. I feel sad just looking at this thing...

anon444877 · 19/09/2020 18:08

Yes that was the very dress that made me wonder if they’ve lost a key design person or key executive with sense. It’s awful, who could it possibly suit?

Fokarfina · 19/09/2020 19:09

It’s gone very Dorothy Perkins.

Ikeameatballs · 19/09/2020 20:04

My goodness!

Lows for me are the Lucinda jersey dresses which look deeply unflattering, the Lara wrap top in a colour way and pattern that says “vomit” a day pair of lilac joggers.

And I say this as someone who was wearing a Boden Breton top today, how many of them do they think any woman needs?..

BoogleMcGroogle · 19/09/2020 20:11

It’s really, really bad isn’t it? I found some Boden clothes I bought in 2008 in the attic when we moved house recently. The quality was incomparable. I’ve dug them out for a ( natural fibre, strong colour, lined) resurrection.

Christ they've got some dowdy looking shit in that range. Those prices too!! Piss take, surely?

Buggedandconfused · 20/09/2020 09:06

Very M&S but with extortionate pricing!

anon444877 · 20/09/2020 10:52

Yes I was thinking autograph has more style - the worst collection of boden prints and colours I’ve seen. I’m going to check into their financials because I can’t believe destroying the aspirational usp is a good strategy for them.

You can find identikit dresses like these almost any women’s mid range clothes shop.

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 20/09/2020 11:45

It’s all a bit bland isn’t it.

Stripesgalore · 20/09/2020 11:58

There are two things in there that might be nice. I can’t believe the price of some of the things like the knitted jumper that aren’t even made out of natural fibres. If I want polyamide etc I will go to Primark.

OublietteBravo · 20/09/2020 11:59

Novelty cashmere - just why? (And how much?)
www.bodenpreview.co.uk/en-gb/cashmere-novelty-jumper-ivory-scattered-suns/sty-k0421-ivo

Stripesgalore · 20/09/2020 12:08

It is so damaging to the environment to sell fast fashion cashmere. I am still wearing cashmere that I bought 15 years ago. It is supposed to last.

onemouseplace · 20/09/2020 12:18

I haven't bought any Boden knitwear since the last 3 pieces I did buy shrank and matted when I washed them exactly according to their instructions.

anon444877 · 20/09/2020 12:21

Yes I gave up on boden knitwear a few years ago, after returning items that had been correctly washed and looked awful - boden not alone in the lack of longevity in knitwear but it was a decline for them.

Those novelty cashmere jumpers look like supermarket offerings c late 80s early 1990s.

MrsDrudge · 20/09/2020 13:33

Very depressing. Nothing I’d buy from there even if I was prepared to pay those prices.

Very Anne Diamond, 80s TV-am. Christ.

Getbettersoon · 20/09/2020 17:05

Erm, a yoga all in one seems like something I need to know about...?

EhUp · 20/09/2020 17:09

Do people exist who would actually buy anything from Boden without getting an absolute minimum of 25% off the ridiculous RRPs?
