Does Boden want anyone wise to 'preorder for Spring'?

I'll get a huge 25% off their (inflated) prices for clothes which are exactly the same as last Spring. In slightly different colours. Available fro January.

They are obviously doing whatever they can to get some cash in the bank. I can't imagine it's been a great year for them, or for similar retailers.

Unfortunately for them, I still have clothes with the tags on from last spring, having discovered it's possible for a yoga all in one to give a solid week of wear ( for Zoom meetings, add decorative scarf)....

@BoogleMcGroogle ok I too need more info on the elusive yoga all in one.

And yes the star jumper is bloody awful, particularly for the price.

Stripesgalore · 20/09/2020 17:26

I used to love Boden when the clothes were made in Ireland and they were made from natural fibres. I agree they need to do a brought back classics range, like the French collared cardigan.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 20/09/2020 17:36

I used to like Boden but I think couple of years back they seem to have changed the supplier-which meant inconsistent sizes and the buyers seems to be clueless. Why in the world would I pay £150 for this monstrosity?

Orchidflower1. Nike, £55 on the Next website. Like wearing an airy baby grow. I bought for yoga classes. I haven’t resumed them ‘yet’....

Really awful clothes and the prices, jeez.

And another thing, who's got kids aged 10 and upwards who will wear any of their offerings (beyond plain t-shirts and hoodies). This parka for example, I can't imagine anyone who isn't a toddler wearing this, and they have it up till age 16. I have a 16 year old. There's no way him or any of his friends would wear something like that: www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/cosy-waterproof-parka-woodland-green-foxes/sty-b1239-grn

Thanks @BoogleMcGroogle

Having ordered recently, in the sale of course and I am not impressed by the quality. The colour is fading already and I wash with liquid soap, material not as heavy and I have dresses going back a few years that still look as good as new, whilst this S/S20 efforts are heading for the charity shop bag shortly and it is only lock down that keeps them safe from the bag of no return! Disappointing and I've been looking elsewhere (often based on recommendations on here) as not impressed with the quality now, or the price. I've also noticed that lengths and body length varies enormously I also agree re. the prints, which are just not as imaginative.

Astrabees · 21/09/2020 15:00

They will join the "its down to Covid" bandwagon when they go bust, along with all the substandard chain restaurants and bland gift shops.

SundayReilly · 21/09/2020 21:56

Quality has nosed dived.
Unlined dresses
Lots of jersey and polyester
£120 for a jersey dress?
Like others I have Boden pieces from around 2005 beautifully made lined natural fabrics .
Everything I liked in the Autumn selection was on a 6-9 week waiting list .

I don't buy much from Boden due to their prices and when I do it's always with an offer code. I did recently get 4 of the Voop 3/4 sleeve length tops as I liked the style and fit when I bought just one. However, I've only worn one so far and after one wash at 30 and line drying, it's shrunk significantly. They've refunded me but I'm wondering if the other 3 will do the same. Not the quality I expected and has put me off future purchases.

makingmyway10 · 23/09/2020 07:09

Not happy with Boden right now. I made an order(one item small order) in July. Three weeks later they said order delayed until August, fine. Then in August they said order delayed until October. It was a Summer item so I cancelled the order and asked for a refund. They said that they had not taken the money! They had taken it, my bank confirmed it, monies taken in July when I placed the order. Boden refused to accept they took the money and said I needed to take it up with the bank. My bank have confirmed that they did indeed take the money and I have had to open a Visa dispute to solve it! It will take up to 8 weeks to resolve. I will never order from Boden again. They even took postage! Angry

anon444877 · 23/09/2020 07:11

And that sort of poor customer service is very unusual for boden too. Odd - maybe their staff are struggling wfh.

MoltenLasagne · 23/09/2020 09:53

Why do shops think they can reduce quality whilst simultaneously whacking up prices? The design of some of those items are similar to thinks I bought a few years back but they're now in horrible fabrics and nearly twice the price. Plus, as others have stated, their sizing has become very inconsistent since then.

Sooverthemill · 23/09/2020 10:23

But they only charge you when they dispatch, they have been doing this for years. It helps them predict how much to order. If you don't like their stuff just delete the email? I often preorder their tees and jeans and then cancel if I decide I don't like them. I've never been charged ahead of time

Sooverthemill · 23/09/2020 10:25

@makingmyway10 your experience really surprises me, one of the reasons I remain a loyal buyer is their excellent customer service, their fast and easy returns/refunds and the fact that they are very human on the phone. I would call them and see what they say.

ReallySpicyCurry · 23/09/2020 11:10

My christ, they're hideous.

Who buys Boden these days anyway? I remember when it was quirky mid 30s mum with a bit of disposable income hosting a cupcake party gear (around here anyway)- not everyone's cup of tea, but it never struck me as frumpy back then. Definitely looks it now

TheSeedsOfADream · 23/09/2020 11:17

They've done the previews forever.
I buy my trousers from them. But that's all now.
The women's fabrics are such poor quality. I've had better cotton and jersey from Primark and H&M. The hems go wonky on their t shirts after one wear, and I bought a jumpsuit for a wedding that came unstitched in the fecking car on the way.

Dd's Boden clothes were phenomenal though. I often bought off ebay, she'd have two years out if them and back they went to eBay. But I guess that's not what "yay call me Johnny" wants.

makingmyway10 · 23/09/2020 11:49

@Sooverthemill I have spoken to customer services who were very polite but refused to accept that they took the money. I have had good experiences in the past with CS at Boden.

You are right they do usually take payment when item is despatched however in this occasion they took it in error. My bank agrees they have taken it. They won’t accept they have.
