Thread for discussing the contents of the lovely Holland & Barrett 2020 advent calendar.

Please - no spoilers! Can we agree not to give away what's behind each door before that day?

See you all on 1st December!

The Arran one has a lot of bath and body stuff, and some candles IIRC

XmasLockdown · 04/12/2020 15:54

@ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson Yes Rituals looks good. I don't really need face creams, eye liners, serums or primers. Lush looks good too but way too expensive for bath bomb calendar.

Plump82 · 04/12/2020 18:17

7am reveal sounds like a plan!!
I used the serum this morning and really liked it. Ive only used similar from The Ordinary which i really didnt like. If i like it as much by the end of the bottle i will repurchase.

XmasLockdown · 04/12/2020 19:07

I just had a shower and tried the shower gel. It smells like spa. I like it.

Arran could be a possibility for next year. I definitely don't need M&S or similar calendar. The bodyshop is nice because I will use most of the stuff and rest I can give to dd8.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 04/12/2020 19:28

@Xmas L'Occitane is worth considering if you like the brand. I had it last year and it was a nice mix of shower gels, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, hand creams, body lotion and a perfume.

I used the body wash earlier and really like it too. I notice there's a matching body lotion and would consider buying again.

WandaDavy · 04/12/2020 20:01

@SpeckledyHen I thought my face felt sticky after using the serum too, though I went all out with a bath, face mask then blasted toner, serum then my usual night moisturiser on (!) all whilst my hair was still dripping wet so couldn't really tell what was what TBH ! 😂 Will go simpler tonight and see what I think. My skin did not feel as moisturised as usual though. It definitely felt different.

TheLongRider · 04/12/2020 21:05

Hyaluronic acid works best when your face is damp as it helps to retain water on the skin. It can feel sticky and personally I use it after cleansing and under moisturiser replacing the toner step.

BathshebaWasOnTheRoof · 04/12/2020 22:55

I loved today’s. I was a bit sceptical about the turmeric but it’s a lovely product. I much prefer it to the Neal’s Yard shower gel I’ve got.

Plump82 · 05/12/2020 07:10

Well, today's was a disappointment!

Cookie79 · 05/12/2020 07:19

Bit ambivalent about today’s offering. DD (12) has swiped it which is fine with me.

Quite like the products so far though generally.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 05/12/2020 07:35

Yes, I was disappointed in today’s! Ah well, onwards and upwards.

mumonthehill · 05/12/2020 07:39

Well it feels well made, but not that exciting

HeadNorth · 05/12/2020 08:35

Boo hiss for todays! Yesterdays was great - I suspose there has to be the occasional filler/dud.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 05/12/2020 08:55

Meh. I knew there would be a couple of fillers!

No link to today's but Day 5 is a small wooden backed mirror. Ideal for handbags but who doesn't already have at least one handbag mirror?!

OP posts:
Writersblock2 · 05/12/2020 08:55

Today’s is rather meh!

PalacePaper · 05/12/2020 09:14

Not impressed with today's either Sad I'd prefer if it at least had a cover on the mirror to stop it getting scratched - but then again I still wouldn't use it.

Very pleased up to now though so I'm not complaining!

BathshebaWasOnTheRoof · 05/12/2020 09:21

I could do with a handbag mirror so I’ll give this one a go. Would have preferred if it had a lid or cover to prevent scratches but I’m just being picky

HuggedTheRedwoods · 05/12/2020 09:30

Bit meh here too. Agree it would have been more useful with a lid, otherwise will get scratched or dirty in a bag. Might stick in the car glovebox or maybe the charity shop bag.

lookdeepintotheparka · 05/12/2020 11:18

Nothing exciting about today's offering but am going to leave it on my desk so I can check my makeup before zoom calls Grin

GreatSoprendo · 05/12/2020 11:50

I don't mind the mirror. At least it has a use, and better than a lipstick in an awful shade that a lot of the beauty calendars seem to include. Handy for my WFH desk drawer.

Chrysanthemum5 · 05/12/2020 12:33

I like today's it's useful and I like the fact that it is wood rather than plastic Smile

That's true, or another bloody black eyeliner!
OP posts:
lookdeepintotheparka · 05/12/2020 16:44

Yy to unwanted black eyeliner, lipstick or lip gloss - even worse!! My DD had a make-up advent calendar last year and every other day was a lip gloss!

Needless to say with all the mask wearing this year they remain untouched in her makeup bag Xmas Grin

Cookie79 · 05/12/2020 17:23

Good point about it being wood and not plastic. DD has added it to her collection in her pit.

She has a Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts one off Amazon and enjoying that this year.

Could we just have a moment for DH who has the Brew Dog one and was presented with a “cream soda” ale the other day.... My suggestion of adding ice cream to it and making it a float wasn’t well received Smile

SpeckledyHen · 05/12/2020 21:07

I like the fact that it is made from wood and chunky in design. However I have no need for it!
