Thread for discussing the contents of the lovely Holland & Barrett 2020 advent calendar.

Please - no spoilers! Can we agree not to give away what's behind each door before that day?

See you all on 1st December!

Out on a limb here - it was knowing this was in there that decided me in buying this calendar Grin

I use earbuds and a reusable one that doesn't bend sounded interesting. I also enjoyed the puzzle of getting it out of the box, and love the magnet to keep it all together.
I'm just weird I suppose Wink

WandaDavy · 16/12/2020 08:16

I also was very happy with this being in the box @WrinklesShminkles ! Extremely practical and I'm eager to try!

lotusbell · 16/12/2020 08:19

Oh, I can't get it open! Instructions would've been nice! Grin

lotusbell · 16/12/2020 08:20

I'm in!

Bluesheep8 · 16/12/2020 08:29

I've never used ear buds. My beloved grandmother used to say " the only thing you should put in your ear is your elbow" ie it's impossible, so don't put anything in.
Never forgotten it! Grin

SugarCanes · 16/12/2020 08:30

How the fuck do you open it ?

My Grandma said exactly the same! 🤣

@Housewife2010

Really? Oh how lovely! Well that can't both have been wrong Smile

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 16/12/2020 09:17

Day 16: Yup...it's a Reusable Ear Bud

Not actually available on the H&B site so I've linked to LastSwab as it looks like a very similar product.

I think this is a great idea in theory but I'm a bit stumped as to how I will actually use it! I currently use ear buds for either drying my outer ear after showing or swimming, or correcting eye make up. As these are made of plastic, they're not going to be much good for drying ears and they feel too rough and bumpy for wiping away make up.

It clearly looks designed for having a good old furtle in your ears but it comes with instructions NOT to do that.

I think I'll be sticking this one in a drawer until I find a use for it!

@SugarCanes

How the fuck do you open it ?
There's an indentation with dots at one end - swing it to the right using your thumb in the dip (with the dip nearest you). It opens sideways.

Years ago when I had ear trouble a GP said that to me and I've never forgotten it either!!

I was dreading this one as knew it was somewhere in the calendar but DH said he thought it was a great idea so I have gifted to him Grin

A GP said it too? Well what a wise woman my Nanna was Halo

SpeckledyHen · 16/12/2020 10:25

Mini honey dipper ? Seems a shame not to use it ...
Any other ideas 💡

Plump82 · 16/12/2020 10:38

I bought a cheapy reusable ear bud from ebay and never used it because the end came off. Ive just had a look at the one form the calendar and the white bit also pops off so be careful if youre using it in your ears! Im not chancing it

lotusbell · 16/12/2020 10:52

I've used it, it doesn't feel as nice as a traditional bud if you like having a root and as others have said, it's not going to be any good for clearing up make up mistakes etc.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 16/12/2020 11:08

Plump I though that too! One for the pass-on pile then ...

I8toys · 16/12/2020 11:43

WTF is this. I'm scared the white nobbly bit will come off.

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/12/2020 11:59

Thank you @WrinklesShminkles, would never have got in without your clear instructions!

I love it: my mum also says nothing in the ear that's smaller than your elbow but I like an ear clean!

SugarCanes · 16/12/2020 17:45

Thanks @WrinklesShminkles - I was spending ages trying to open it at the other end!

Housewife2010 · 16/12/2020 20:10

Does anyone remember the fantastic old b&w British film Village of the Damned based on John Wyndham's The Midwych Cuckoo's? When one of the creepy children worked out how to do a complicated puzzle, the rest of the creepy children would automatically know how to do it. This weird difficult to open cotton bud thing would be something to test out on the creepy Midwych children.

Yes! That was such a creepy film- brilliant! Maybe they could even find a use for the buds once they manage to get into the box Grin

I hope we get something a bit more luxurious tomorrow. I am hoping for some nice smelling body or hand lotion at some point. Maybe a soap. I am actually quite glad of my rubbish memory at the moment as I can only remember what one more thing is!

I don't remember anything! I recycled the sleeve part already. I haven't yet forgotten what door 21 is thoughGrin
There is a door 25, is this usual for beauty advent calendars? I'm debating opening that one on Christmas Eve as think I might forget on Christmas Day!

Housewife2010 · 16/12/2020 21:13

I can only remember one more of the outstanding items - it has an odd name/description and I think it's full size. I can't remember anything else.

DuckyMcDuck · 16/12/2020 21:45

My mum used to say the same re ears and elbows so I'm not going to use it. I love the box though so need to find something to keep in it!

Bluesheep8 · 17/12/2020 06:48

Oooh today's looks really nice. A generous size too. I've recently run out of LE instant boost tonic so will look forward to giving this a go.
