Seriously considering this, to be honest responses likely won't change my mind, but the 2 people I told IRL told me it was 'chavy and childish'

For context, im 33 and have a somewhat 'bohemian' look. Generally curious as ive never actually seen anyone sporting this 'undercut' hair style.

It'll look nice when it's done, but when it grows out even a week later it'll look ridiculous.

If you've got someone who can keep it shaved every week/two weeks then go for it, otherwise you'll have a nice shave for a week and the rest of the time it'll just look like a toddler got hold of some clippers.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 13/09/2020 23:39

Your hair, do what you like. If you aren't happy, it will always grow.
My DD has just had an undercut (not the lines though). If she keeps her hair down you can't even see it, so there's always that option if you get it done and regret it.

Imissmoominmama · 13/09/2020 23:41

It’s an undercut- it will look how you want it for a week or two, if you keep your hair up, then just wear your hair differently until you can have it done again.

Babamamananarama · 13/09/2020 23:41

I think it can look really good. I wouldn't shave lines into it but otherwise can look great.

aijaine · 13/09/2020 23:44

Go for it it's nice, the only bad thing I can think of is your hair will look thinner when down because of a good chunk of hair missing, but if you have thick hair or don't really care about what it's like when it's down then I think it's really nice

FeminismIsForALLWomen · 13/09/2020 23:45

I think it's nice. & usually anyone who calls something 'chavy' is a snobby twat anyway, so I wouldn't worry about their opinion!

MoltonSilver · 13/09/2020 23:51

The lines are a bit Vanilla Ice.

For me, the shaving looks like a road marking.
The undercut is fine!

Popcornismandatory · 14/09/2020 02:16

Hate it

KimMarie34 · 14/09/2020 02:35

I think it would look really good, on the right person.

If you can pull it off then great, but I'd look ridiculous Grin

ARoseInHarlem · 14/09/2020 02:38

Not sure about the chevrons, but an undercut can look nice. As long as you’re under 40 or over 60!

Isawabluebird · 14/09/2020 08:15

Thank you for the replies!
I do have very thick and long hair, its actually very similar to the OP photo, even down to the dip dye. I was actually drawn to it as it would take some weight out of my hair!
I wear my hair up alot too.

I love an undercut.

Tell whoever used the word chavy that they can feck right off- horrid classist slur.

WankyDoodleDandy · 14/09/2020 08:29

@ARoseInHarlem
Why wouldn’t this haircut work on someone aged 41-59?

TiddyTid · 14/09/2020 08:33

I'm 48 and have a plain undercut. I have very thick, curly long hair and it's been a godsend in hot weather and during night sweats!

dgirluk · 14/09/2020 08:46

I have an undercut and it's great - less sweaty neck, less hair to dry, etc. etc. plus I like the way it looks. But I get my husband to re-shave it every 10 days or so because it grows really quickly - it's easy to do with head clippers or beard clippers or whatever, once the hairdresser hs done it once to get the edges straight.

The lines might be harder to maintain. Go for it if you like it, it'll always grow back if you don't! I've had mine for about 2-3 years now and I'm 45. Originally had longer hair but have shorter hair now so it doesn't get tied up as often which is a shame.

CatBatCat · 14/09/2020 10:04

I love an undercut. At the back its great for those with thick hair to make it look and feel a bit lighter. I personally have thin hair but a round face so a side undercut round by the side burns makes me look a bit slimmer.

obviouslymarvellous · 14/09/2020 10:10

I had an undercut and loved it - I have really thick hair and it made drying it so much easier. I had a long bob and loved it. I grew it out though as my son just kept saying I looked ridiculous (mid 40s) and calling me silly names. It got to me and I just grew it out. It's a ball ache though to keep on top of

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/09/2020 10:13

I love an undercut too. And it’s your hair - go for it.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/09/2020 10:17

I don't think it looks good, even in the professional pictures, so I would be wary about who I asked to do it, and the finish you'd get.

'chavvy' is a horrible term. I don't think that of it, i just don't think it looks particularly good or grow out well, if that was your intention. You're right to not let others affect what you would like to do with your hair though OP. It probably is a fairly polarising style so you will get stronger opinions.

ChrissyPlummer · 14/09/2020 10:21

I’ve had an undercut for just over a year, I love it! I wanted a pattern in it but as pp and my DH said it would look great at first, then be a PITA until I could get to a hairdresser to re-do it. Go for it if it’s what you want.

The over 40 comment is 🙄but then as I’ve got older, I give far less of a shit what other people think.

Nyancat · 14/09/2020 11:25

I had exactly that style for about a year, only grew it out for a friends wedding but might get it back again. I have a lob, fine hair but absolutely tons of it and it made it far quicker to dry and it sat much better. I get my hair cut every 6-7 weeks so whilst the pattern grows out quickly it's easy to put back in - I've had loads of different patterns in it. I'm 40 and give not a fuck whether anyone thinks I'm too old for it.

I love it, go for it!

ForeverRedSkinhead · 14/09/2020 16:39

I had an undercut last year , I really liked it. It was easy to grow out once I was tired of it too.

Go for it if it appeals to you.
