Do I have to wear DMs?

I'm short and fat and in my early 50s. All my friends are buying them and I just cant do it again. I wore them at uni in the 80s and then again in the early 90s. And if I dont get DMs what do I wear on my feet this winterConfused

@rorosemary
I used to wear knee high boots. Also I have some low chunky heel suede boots which I wore with tights last year but they are starting to look a little worn

I will end up wearing whatever the fuck I want. Op was a bit tongue in cheek. I just wanted advice as to what black boots I could wear with dresses and tights. Didn't think it was that big of a deal.

I don't think £60 will go far for boots...I'd keep an eye on Clarks for one of their discounts. Plenty of options there.

@SallyOMalley YES! I've had about 3 pairs of Fly boots and they've all leaked the second they've so much as looked at a bit of damp grass. Very annoying as they are comfy and look quite good. I got a pair of Sorrel boots last winter and they are waterproof (and v comfy).

Start a new thread with a title such as ‘which black boots for winter? (Not DMs)’ then, ffs. It’s a style and beauty forum, not Fight Club.

It’s quite simple to do a filter search on Office, Schuh, Debenhams etc...

Boots > Black > Size > Price Low to High

And then figure out what you like within your price range. Debenhams have lots in clearance.

@IaltagDhubh

I love DMs. They’re definitely my style and I love the chunky, ugly, clunky look. So I’m gutted that I can’t wear them. They just hurt too much. They’re so heavy, my hips are agony (I’m not even 40 yet ffs). And that’s if I can get past the blisters and callouses from breaking them in. I wish I knew of a lightweight, softer version.
I could never break in the pair I had in the 90s (despite taking to them with a hammer to try and soften the heels), but last year I bought a pair of Pascals in the really soft leather and they are so comfy - no breaking in required at all!

I love them but they just aren't my style at all so I live vicariously through the dc who both have them as school shoes, though often wear them at the weekend too as they are so comfy and cool. I prefer Chelsea boots. Clark's do some nice ones and ugg to super warm waterproof ones

Well as I've said already the OP was tongue in cheek. But I'll know in future not to joke in the style and beauty page. Also no point in anyone asking for style advice on here when we have google at our fingertips.

I like fly boots with a wedge heel. I'd also love acne pistols if I could afford them...

WiserOlder · 05/09/2020 21:50

Not for me. They are awful. I am 50 and own no pairs of DMs

Funny. Im being hung drawn and quartered for a bit of exaggeration on another thread! More love. More peace. More wine. 🍷
Bwlch · 06/09/2020 06:44

I've never owned a pair. Never wanted to and never will.

Hyperfish101 · 06/09/2020 07:42

MN IS fight club though! I’m constantly amazed how people are up for a fight, even on the most innocuous threads!!

Anyway, DMs are not what they were IMO. They used to be well made and last forever. I find the quality a bit poor.

There are loads of other great chunky boots around though With a range of prices.
