One pair of boots. What style?

I want some opinions on my best option for a multitasking pair of boots for winter.
Colour black
To be worn with -
Midi skirt dark blue floral, midi shirt dress black floral, jumbo cord over the knee straight skirt with wooly tights (mid thigh)
Burgundy needlecord a line over the knee skirt with wooly tights.
I wore loafers last year but want the warmth of more foot coverage!
I would wear trainers but was thinking black trainers look a bit yuk with dark tights and skirts (or I haven't found any good ones) and I need a plain colour.
I'm 5 foot 5. Short to average length legs versus body. Average (not slim) calves. Slimmish athletic build.
Any ideas?

You need these in your life. They are furry inside and so warm. I have the lace up pair and adore them.

Definitely Dr Martens!

Rollerbird · 29/08/2020 16:19

I'm not sure I want something THAT chunky?
Will have to try some on.
Not sure about these either?

Absolutely doc martens. I also have a pair of sheepskin lined black leather boots that aren't docs but are very similar, with a very slightly pointier toe, that I got in TK Maxx. I forget the brand but I have worn them more than any other pair of boots since my first pair of actual Docs aged about 14. The brand is RJs Fuzzies and they seem to only sell ugg-type things apart from this one anomaly pair! But they are so versatile and I wish I could get another pair. Would definitely recommend something similar. Photo of the same ones from Google.

I just brought some joules Westboune Chelsea boots in black . Quite understand and classic. I had some tan ones last year and I found them comfortable for every day

I like a black ankle boot with a low heel as multi-purpose & warm. Dr Martens are practical but make short legs (mine anyway) look stumpy unless dress size 8. www.jonesbootmaker.com/collections/ladies-ankle-boots/products/casual-flat-croc-panel-leather-ankle-boot-carm30503-316-595?variant=32908807012415

I have these in brown and they're incredible.

Tidypidy · 29/08/2020 17:06

I have those Fly boots in brown. They've started to let in water 2 years on which is annoying as they every comfy. I've just bought leather desert boots from Clarks which I'm hoping will go with everything and be tidy for work.

DragonPie · 29/08/2020 17:06

Ugg in the sale. These are in Office.

I really like the fly London mol boots or some black timberlands. Both may be a bit chunky that what you like but I think they look great under a long skirt.

These don't look great in the website but they're really stylish on and are sooooo comfortable!

Juancornetto · 29/08/2020 17:22

Chelsea boots are classic and will never date. If you want them to last Dr Martens do a version called Flora or Clarks do a chunky one called Orinoco or a less chunky one called Taylor.

foolishlyfoolish · 29/08/2020 17:30

What size shoe are you OP? Boden has some lovely biker style boots in the sale and go up to a 39 I think.

I've got furry lined docs but elastic sides rather than laces, children's again as they go up to a 38.5. Wore them nearly everyday for the school run last autumn/winter and they are still in great condition.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 29/08/2020 17:47

Have knee high boots gone out of fashion?? A sleek pair of riding style boots is totally what I'd wear with midi skirts and dresses.

Rollerbird · 29/08/2020 18:07

I'm a 40.or 39.5.
Do boden come big or standard?
I need to mooch round some websites this evening. I got paid yesterday and I might press the buy button tonight.
Please keep suggesting things!
I like the timberland but unsure if they will look OK with an over the knee skirt with the high ish heels?

OP posts:
Rollerbird · 29/08/2020 18:08

Also like a previous poster said I do think very chunky doc styles can make my short legs look stumpy.

foolishlyfoolish · 29/08/2020 19:05

Boden standard id say, I'm a 39 and buy a 39. Docs slightly oversized so I got away with the 38.5 Smile

Terralee · 29/08/2020 19:13

The Ugg Wilde boots on sale in slate grey for £85 in Office look amazing.. if only I had £85 to hand sigh!!

Terralee · 29/08/2020 19:13

I looked them up after seeing @DragonPie's photo of them

evilharpy · 29/08/2020 19:25

I'm a 7/41 and buy a 41 in Boden.

Rollerbird · 29/08/2020 19:33

Those ugg are too small.. Sigh

@foolishlyfoolish ooh I've been looking at kids DM Chelsea boots for me, with the side zip as well as elastic, but dithering about width of children's shoes. I'm a 37 but quite wide footed - how did you find yours for width?
