One pair of boots. What style?

I want some opinions on my best option for a multitasking pair of boots for winter.
Colour black
To be worn with -
Midi skirt dark blue floral, midi shirt dress black floral, jumbo cord over the knee straight skirt with wooly tights (mid thigh)
Burgundy needlecord a line over the knee skirt with wooly tights.
I wore loafers last year but want the warmth of more foot coverage!
I would wear trainers but was thinking black trainers look a bit yuk with dark tights and skirts (or I haven't found any good ones) and I need a plain colour.
I'm 5 foot 5. Short to average length legs versus body. Average (not slim) calves. Slimmish athletic build.
Any ideas?

@heidipi yes they're the ones I have! I've got quite wide feet and they've been comfy since day one.

I think I probably measure 38.5 but normally buy a 39 more for the width so I think you'd be fine with your normal size. A brilliant buy when you compare the price with the adult ones.

foolishlyfoolish · 29/08/2020 20:14

I mean I normally buy a 39 in anything other than DM @heidipi if I didn't make that clear. I have those in a 38.5.

heidipi · 29/08/2020 20:20

Thanks @foolishlyfoolish, that's great I think I'm ordering right now! Yes a bargain compared to the adult price - now I'm less depressed about autumn Grin

I have the Flora DM boots. not chunky at all. I had them 5-6 years already and they have soooo much more wear in them.

DragonPie · 30/08/2020 09:57

I don’t think the DMs make my legs look chunky and I am short.

Lexilooo · 30/08/2020 10:13

I'd go for chelsea boots, they easily go with most skirt lengths and trousers. They are unlikely to date badly as they are a classic design. I wore mine virtually every day last winter.

MikeUniformMike · 30/08/2020 11:07

I'm shortish and don't have long legs and I have worn DM Emmelines with a skirt. They don't look particularly chunky.

I've ordered the fly london salv chelsea boot.
Arriving tomorrow with good old prime.

just wanted to bump this thread to say thank you to @MikeUniformMike for introducing me to DM Emmelines! I love boots but for the last few years have struggled to find any that really grabbed me... until the Emmelines. Bloody love them. Got them in the dark red and they are BEAUTIFUL!

RobinRose · 05/09/2020 11:35

@balaur they are bloody gorgeous!

leafeater · 05/09/2020 13:20

The Emmalines have been discontinued Shock

Balaur · 05/09/2020 14:06

They have but I picked some up online at a reduced price.

foxtiger · 05/09/2020 23:05

I've ordered the fly london salv chelsea boot.

Good choice! I've had some of those for about a year and they are really comfortable. I recently got some of these Fly 360 boots too - I walk a lot and I think they will look good with skirts but be warmer than the Salvs on really cold days.

carrottopper · 05/09/2020 23:29

As mentioned above, have knee high boots gone out of fashion? I usually buy some each autumn and need to get some sort of boot very soon either ankle or knee

margaritasbythesea · 05/09/2020 23:51

I think it depends on what you calves are like. Mine are wide and neither calf length boots nor very chunky styles suit me. I bought some Ugg ankle boots -chunky but very short into the ankle. Almost like trainers. The colour wouldn't be right for you but I will try and find a pic.

margaritasbythesea · 06/09/2020 00:00

These -they did do a black although I have a greigish colour. They work with lots if things including jeans

margaritasbythesea · 06/09/2020 00:02

They look nothing like trainers there, I now realise but they show my ankles, which I suppose is what I meant. They are very low.

Rollerbird · 07/09/2020 21:29

I ended up sending the fly boots back
I must have got skinny heels. They were really loose on my heels and a TOUCH too long but I think a size down might be too short.
Still searching. I've got chunkyish calves and athletic legs so this might be an impossible mission
