Cardigans -frumpy?

What makes a cardigan frumpy? They are for sale in every shop year after year so I don't ever see them not being in fashion, people clearly wear them year round but what makes one frumpy?

I am not harbouring a grudge but I once owned the perfect cardi for about 4 days. It was alpaca long and big, more or less a coatigan. I looked bohemian and stylist in it, really I did. I put it on the back of my chair in a cafe and it was STOLEN.
I will never be stylist again.

Oh that's rotten Panticles

I have a loads of cardigans, but they’re all v neck, soft fabric, good quality. I wear them mostly loosely tucked in, for example I have quite a lot of Sezane knitwear and wear it like this: m.sezane.com/en/product/la-liste/gaspard-jumper/red

It’s definitely not frumpy on me!

bendmeoverbackwards · 28/08/2020 15:26

That's lovely @Sasuma I love Sezane!

I love a cardigan. I usually knit my own. You can get much nicer patterns than most of the styles in shops & lots of lovely natural yarns, cashmere, alpaca, linen, merino.

I've always worn them, they are such an essential item in my wardrobe!

The only ones I don't like are made of really cheap bad quality material and get bobbled instantly. In regards to frumpy or not... like all items of clothing, something that doesn't suit the wearer's body shape can look a bit frumpy but also who cares. If you like it, wear it.

@Panticles I’ve just lost the last beautiful horn rimmed button off a chunky silver rib Brora cardigan I bought 11 years ago (and wore to and from the hospital to have dd1). I feel your pain - the search to find and hold the perfect knitwear is fraught with pain!

JaceLancs · 28/08/2020 22:04

I like plain merino or cashmere cardigans in plain styles
Uniqlo, M n S, PURE, John Lewis or tkmaxx
I also bought 2 lightweight missoni cardigans from tkmaxx in the sales - I’ve had so many compliments wearing them
Frumpy cardigan styles on me would be cropped, big waterfall style or edge to edge folded back

Cardigan Queen here.

Been wearing them all my life in various forms.

Frumpy 🤷‍♀️

Comfy. Oh yes.
