What are your thoughts on these? I'd like some jeans other than skinnies that I can wear with boots or trainers in the autumn/ winter. I'm early 50s and don't want to look frumpy. If I get the, I thought I'd get full length and roll them up rather than cropped. Like these

I’m torn on whether to get ladies or men’s fit. 🤔 Back in the day i wore men’s (don’t think there were ladies fit late 80s?) - they were very big in the waist but the idea was to cinch them - not sure what’s the ‘cool’ (not that I am cool but it’d be nice to know!) way to wear then now

Sizings tricky - I'm 6-8 and got 28.
A 12, maybe 32?

thedevilinablackdress · 31/08/2020 07:22

With vintage, you've really got to try them - or be prepared to gamble. I'm a 12/14 and have a couple of vintage 32w. Probably 'men's give the age.

Motherofgod2 if you're talking about vintage sizes, I don't know.
In the current new ones, I'm a 12 and bought a 31 and they fit well. I have been told they don't stretch but I've yet to wear them to see about that. The31 are a comfortable fit and if they do stretch could end up being a bit big.

@Jofra

Yours look so good that I've just ordered some from eBay. Men's at £17.99.

Fingers crossed.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 31/08/2020 09:22

Ha! Thank you everyone, you're very kind and reassuring - I've hardly taken them off (and they've not gone baggy, because no elastic!)

I guess mine are men's, and second hand but not particularly vintage. They're 2 inches up from my usual Levi’s size - so I'm a 12/30 inch waist and the 501s are a 32. They're great with a belt and very comfortable, but if you want the tight fit over the bum that a lot of the online pictures have I guess a 31 would be the way to go.

motherofgod2 · 01/09/2020 07:22

OK thanks everyone I'll get a 32 to be on the safe side. I don't know if they're mens or womens it just says vintage levi on the ad (ebay)

@JofraArchersFastestBall aha I’m going to try ordering some men’s ones again but add two sizes. I got them in my usual size but they wouldn’t go over my thighs. The Levi’s website has only had cropped ones for ages and I like a turn up on mine.

onlyconnect · 01/09/2020 08:51

PearsMorgan for some reason I found that when I was looking often there were only cropped ones but occasionally full length ones would appear. It was odd and felt like some sort of glitch rather than them going in and out of stock because I sometimes got a different opening page. There should be a link to full length on my OP although I think someone said it didn't work.

It's definitely 2 or 3 inches up for properly vintage Levi's. Some 'vintage' aren't!
This is from an article
When you’re shopping for vintage Levi’s and the back or inside tag is still legible take a look at the waist measurement. If the jeans you’re looking at are marked size 30, they’ll most likely fit a 28″ waist. The rule of thumb is to subtract two inches from the marked size to figure out the actual size. This may seem weird, but there’s a reason why vintage Levi’s don’t measure according to the size that they are marked. Simply put, denim shrinks. I’m sure a lot of you have seen ‘shrink to fit’ on a Levi’s label and that’s what it means. When you wash and dry your Levi’s they shrink. Vintage Levi’s have already been worn, washed, & shrunk so that work is out of the way for you.

Thinkle · 03/09/2020 16:06

I ordered some from eBay off the back of this thread. The ones I got helpfully stated that they are equivalent to a 10/12 which is what I am (10 in whistles etc) and they fit well. Snug enough to hug my bum a bit but not so much that I can’t move around or sit down with ease. The label says they were originally a 33/34 but have been tailored to a 31/30. The only tailoring I can see is on the hem so I am guessing that they have been shrunk and shortened. According to the Levi’s website I would be a 29 inch waste and I know I’ve bought Curve IDs in that size in the past.

Not sure if any of this is helpful to people who are trying to work out sizes.

I got some from the reduced rail in TK maxx for £11. I love them, so comfy

jessRabbitt · 04/09/2020 18:22

I absolutely love Levis they are wicked but don't roll them up on full length if they are too long sweetie roll them under but make sure you do it so if you wear a pair of heels they will stop be long enough and Google on the Internet if you can about Jeans pocket because they say on certain Jeans where the back pockets are matter because it makes your Bum look better
