What are your thoughts on these? I'd like some jeans other than skinnies that I can wear with boots or trainers in the autumn/ winter. I'm early 50s and don't want to look frumpy. If I get the, I thought I'd get full length and roll them up rather than cropped. Like these

They are fab. Get them! I have 2 pairs of the cropped version ( I am 5'1) and recent,y got a vintage pair. Am looking for a used pair of 501 skinnies now. I'm becoming addicted

onlyconnect · 25/08/2020 08:47

Thank you sooverthemill. I think I will.

They've arrived and I love them! I'm a size 12 and got a 31. Putting them in made me realise that skinnies will look dated. They're proper denim and a great fit

Are they stretchy? I want good old fashioned jeans without stretch

thedevilinablackdress · 26/08/2020 13:54

Absolutely love them. Preferably vintage. If you're buying new, the website should say if they have stretch. They usually don't.

onlyconnect · 26/08/2020 15:19

MrsGrinda I think they gave 1% stretch. They don't feel stretchy.

@onlyconnect I'm so pleased! I am wearing my vintage ones today. No stretch at all and very slouchy and comfy. I have also ordered a pair of the ribcage as Levi had a sale ( they always do) to test the sizing so I can then try to get even cheaper on eBay. I have a pair of modern 501skinny
coming via eBay and hoping they are as slim as people say rather then 'skin tight'

Sooverthemill · 26/08/2020 15:49

Vintage pair

Where are you buying your 501s from? Direct from Levi?

sweetbirdofjuice · 26/08/2020 18:32

love em! I have vintage, way too long and roll up to ankle length. Very flattering on the backside

sweetbirdofjuice · 26/08/2020 18:33

buy from ebay or charity shops

ageingdisgracefully · 26/08/2020 18:33

I've got a pair but I can't quite fit into them yet. Blush. They're a 28.

I love them and used to have loads of pairs.

They're iconic.

Sooverthemill · 27/08/2020 08:58

@PennyRoyal my vintage were from eBay. My modern are from la Redoute, liberty and Levi. Plus debop for the used 501 skinny. I decide which ones I want and then search for cheapest prices. Liberty are often having 50% sales.

onlyconnect · 27/08/2020 09:25

Pennyroyal mine were direct from Levi. Will definitely try Liberty though.

I've just got a pair and I love them. I much prefer non stretchy denim, and I really like the straight leg and button fly. Took a punt on a vintage (men's?) pair on Depop. I got a 32 inch waist, when I'm a 30 or UK 12 in modern/women's sizing.

They fit well, I think - but I've just got a question about the length. Do you wear yours slightly cropped? Or to about a cm above the ground? These are slightly shorter than I'd consider to be full length, so I think will be ok with boots but possibly not with trainers.

I wear of mine quite short - either rolled or hemmed or cut. With all kinds of footwear.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/08/2020 12:34

p.s. excellent buy Joffra

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/08/2020 12:53

I have a couple of pairs of the cropped 501s, love them. They look great jofra

ageingdisgracefully · 27/08/2020 14:52

Yes, they look great on jofra.

evilharpy · 27/08/2020 14:56

They look great on you. I wish they would fit me but I've never been able to get a pair of 501s over my very chunky thighs.

Used to love the Levi's ads in the 90s, anyone remember them?

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 27/08/2020 18:12

@Sooverthemill what's the sizing like on your vintage ones?

thedevilinablackdress · 27/08/2020 18:54

Re. vintage sizing, it really depends how vintage you're talking. Even though they're a 'standard' cut, the shape has varied over the years. Buying online can be a gamble.

ageingdisgracefully · 27/08/2020 20:21

Loved the 90s ads. Smile

Sooverthemill · 28/08/2020 11:24

@JofraArchersFastestBall they look great. I'm short so I always get them taken up or I roll or get the scissors to any jeans pretty much

@ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords I bought one pair which was 2 inches over my normal non vintage and I can just do them up lying down! So I then got a pair 4 inches bigger. I think I could have gone an inch down. I took advice from the internet ( Emma hill plus loads of USA based bloggers) to see what worked. The first pair may fit once I lose lockdown weight ( haha) but the second I like as they are slouchy. I wish I could get to a shop ( even without restrictions there are no vintage shops near me and the charity shops are shit) to try on.

this was helpful

motherofgod2 · 30/08/2020 21:57

So if I'm a 12 should I get a 32 or a 34? I'm a 30 in topshop.
