You know what I mean. When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle.

It’s all comfy and autumnal, big orange/red jumpers, peg trousers, brogues, jersey skirts, tights, polo necks etc.

I don’t care if it’s not the height of fashion I’m using her as my autumn inspiration.

What do ya reckon 😀

I like that look.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 23/08/2020 09:31

Love it! The nineties are coming back anyway.
Are you going to go full Meg with the shaggy French Kiss haircut? (Flashbacks of my mum with a heated hairbrush and copious amounts of Wella Hard Rock hairspray)

PuppyMonkey · 23/08/2020 09:33

DD (13) and I have been watching all these films over lockdown and we both love her look, particularly in You’ve Got Mail with her lovely coats and trousers and brogues and pixie haircut.Smile

PersonaNonGarter · 23/08/2020 14:39

So perfect. Love this.

LucilleBluth · 23/08/2020 14:49

This perfect, no? 😀

Furrybootsyecomfy I may go for the giant hair too!

I like it too - I see it as a continuation of Diane Keaton's style. I could never dress like this - too short, but it looks so comfortable.

Floisme · 23/08/2020 15:03

I've seen 'When Harry met Sally' loads of times, and it's been. fascinating how great the clothes looked the first time around, then watching them fall right out of favour and then come out the other side looking cool again. Except for that New Years Eve party frock (or is it the dress she wore to the wedding?) That's the one outfit that hasn't managed to shake off the ghost of Princess Diana

thatone · 23/08/2020 15:06

It is a timeless look.

homemadecommunistrussia · 23/08/2020 15:16

I remember her wine coloured dressing gown and white nights in sleepless in Seattle. I desperately wanted to recreate that.Blush

WinterAndRoughWeather · 23/08/2020 15:20

I have several images of her in WHMS on my Pinterest style inspiration board. I love elegant 80s casual.

Another inspiration for me is Linda Kozlowski in Crocodile Dundee (not that I could pull of most of those looks, but damn, she looks amazing in every single scene).

WinterAndRoughWeather · 23/08/2020 15:22

Oh - another thing from Sleepless in Seattle: Meg Ryan’s kitchen. So pretty.

homemadecommunistrussia · 23/08/2020 15:37

Her kitchen was amazing and her low plait and woolley socks. Smile

JaneJeffer · 23/08/2020 16:19

I love the house in When a man loves a woman!

MoltonSilver · 23/08/2020 16:31

Sounds like an excellent idea.

QuentinQuarantino · 23/08/2020 16:44

Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally is a style icon 😍.

I went through a serious phase a few years ago of copying her style in that movie. Oversized tweedy jackets, mom jeans, shoulder pads, high neck knits, wire frame glasses AND I even curled my hair like hers including my fringe!

Her style in Sleepless in Seattle is a bit too schoolmarm-y for me.

LunaNorth · 23/08/2020 16:45

Meg Ryan style is great, but my current style crushes are SJP in Divorce and Rose The Hat in Dr Sleep.

I just need to lose about three stone to pull it off.

Immigrantsong · 23/08/2020 16:48

Meg Ryan is a fashion icon. She managed to ook effortless and naturally beautiful, something that lacks in today's airbrushed try hard world.

She looked real and like a woman's woman if that makes sense, not like what a man's idea of a woman would be, which is what I think of the Instagram photoshop fashion of today.

QuentinQuarantino · 23/08/2020 16:49

Winter Totally agree about LK in Crocodile Dundee. She was utterly gorgeous and just looked so goddamn classy and stylish in that film. DP and I were watching one of those I 💜 the 80s shows the other night that talked about the film and we were both crushing on her 😂

MoltonSilver · 23/08/2020 16:49

I always the lovely cosy wool coats in Meg Ryan movies.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 23/08/2020 17:30

@QuentinQuarantino

Sometimes I wear three pearl studs in one ear lobe, like Linda K does by the lake in the outback.

Also anyone who thinks mid calf length skirts look shit needs to watch Crocodile Dundee and think again.

DianaT1969 · 23/08/2020 17:39

I love her look in You've Got Mail. Sometimes pieces from Uniqglo's collaboration with Ines de la Fressange look 'Meg like'. Although not next season, as they are mainly midi and maxi.

frugalkitty · 23/08/2020 18:54

Oh I loved Meg Ryan in her heyday, I even sported the short flicky out hair at one point in the mid nineties. She was a quirky girl next door. Tomorrow I'm going to watch When Harry Met Sally! Sigh.

Siablue · 23/08/2020 19:07

I am not the only one who has been watching all her films in lockdownGrin. I think it is the fact that she looks naturally beautiful and not fake.

He clothes are wearable and the 90s are coming back. I don’t look anything like her but I think the general look is very wearable. I am off to buy a big red jumper.

chartreuse · 23/08/2020 19:29

I love her outfits in You've Got Mail, and don't get me started on her apartment! I'd also love a Brinkley.

LucilleBluth · 23/08/2020 20:31

Nora Ephron did a good screen apartment, kitchen house etc. They set design on her films is amazing. See also Somethings Gotta Give....for kitchen and Keanu.
