Brown clothes?

WindFlower92 · 22/08/2020 22:41

Brown is something I've always tried to avoid as I thought it looked dull and boring, but I've been reading these boards more and more and think this colour might suit me (auburn hair, pale skin). I'm just not sure what other colours to put with it. I want to get some work outfits (teacher) so need skirts, trousers and blazers that could go with brown/orange/mustard tops. Any ideas? I'm bored of black trousers all the time, but still want to look professional and coordinated!

Another example - not brown but not sure what this kind of colour would go with?

Urgh nothing about Joe Bowns says professional regardless of the colour brown

JaneJeffer · 23/08/2020 00:22

What about some check trousers to go with the jumper?

WindFlower92 · 23/08/2020 00:36

Good idea @JaneJeffer - a quick search found these www.boohoo.com/petite-checked-tartan-trousers/PZZ75144-146-14.html?istCompanyId=4bd63293-f970-4d25-8695-422e3c08a364&istFeedId=4213e776-38e9-4fed-89b9-aadfd4011112&istItemId=walqqqmim&istBid=t&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhIP6BRCMARIsALu9LfnudyaXMd2UgVSdyM6a7lw4WA4LYjjr1HSuNpNG6_ciRUbaKId9segaAr9QEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Although I don't think they go with the brown top! Will have to find another one so I can get these trousers Grin I keep going round in circles!

Maybe not professional @AriettyHomily but there are some good items from there that look very 'teacher-y'.

I’m unsure if you mean you’d like brown coloured clothes or clothes from Joe Brown?
I can’t help with the letter as I dislike them but I wear some brown clothes. Massimo Dutti nearly always sells brown clothes. I love camel but am too pale for it. It is stunning with white if you can wear it? I tend to wear mid to dark brown. I wear mainly with blue skinny jeans. Mid brown is nice with black skinnies too. Brown and blue are great together. Have a look at the Massimo Dutti website to see how they style it.

Alongcameacat · 23/08/2020 02:35

Latter even not letter 🤣

Saltyauntiepoop · 23/08/2020 04:03

Cannot wear brown i just think i look like a massive blob of turd dressed in brown Blush

Saltyauntiepoop · 23/08/2020 04:07

The jumper is mustard id say. Brown goes with other muddy autumnal colours like khaki, nude, creams, rusty orange/burnt orange, auburn red, beige, mustard, minky pink.

The tunic would go with black or denim or white.

Saltyauntiepoop · 23/08/2020 04:09

If you like joe browns you might also like monsoon, seasalt, nomads, monterey.

DianaT1969 · 23/08/2020 04:29

Joe Browns isn't my taste at all, but I second the suggestion for Massimo Dutti for ideas of styling. Also Mango and Zara often have autumn colours. M&S is good for clothes suitable for teaching if you can find the colours. Their 7/8 trousers with brogues or loafers for example, with a merino wool jumper from there or Uniqglo. Close fit cotton t-shirt under.

Juancornetto · 23/08/2020 06:49

Uniqlo do merino jumpers in a range of colours that are the same price as that polyester one from Jo Browns

Panticles · 23/08/2020 07:01

The brown you have shown has a high yellow content. I would look at the contrast colour to go with the items so a bright blue.
It sounds like you might want items that are the same tone and then can form a brown based capsule. If you have copper hair and pale skin you want the colour to be on your top half.
So an olive and brown patterned too with olive green trousers.
I think it might help if you think about what is your best neutral colour.

Panticles · 23/08/2020 07:12

Something like this would make a Foundation piece for a brown capsule.

I hate dark brown. I think I am a spring and it does nothing for me (though I do use it around my eyes). I do like the Joe Brown's stuff but cannot wear most of it because of the Viscose they use so much of.

LeGrandBleu · 23/08/2020 08:51

Brown is hard and it is about colour matching. I have two brown items in my wardrobe, a high neck brown jumper and a V neck jumper which I wear on skin, but I only wear them with white jeans and brown ankle boots.

And sorry, but those trousers are hideous!

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 23/08/2020 09:04

Brown goes well with cream, tan, khaki and black.
For starters try on a brown top (pattern free) and tan pumps and gold hoops. It's a classic, smart look. Long length cream trench would finish it off beautifully.

You'll look like a star.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 23/08/2020 09:05

I meant to add keep the black trousers!! Don't go naked waist down!!

WindFlower92 · 23/08/2020 09:06

Thanks for the info all, will check out the shops mentioned. @Panticles that dress is gorgeous! Just getting into all this and actually thinking about how I look for the first time, it's hard work! Apparently my other colours are orange/rust/mustard etc. with teal and olive, so trying to look more at these.

It's boohoo @LeGrandBleu so I have a feeling that in reality you may be right, but I love them in the picture!

I have copper hair and wear brown tones - but rarely brown itself. I have rust, burnt orange and dark creams in my wardrobe.

I’m not personally keen on Joe Browns so not sure about those items.

I’ll post some photos of some items I have and like.

Oops 🙊

WindFlower92 · 23/08/2020 10:26

I've got a top like the middle one already @Sasuma, what do you wear with it? I feel like blue denim doesn't really go with it Confused

lookatallthosechickens · 23/08/2020 10:35

Mixing mustard with other shades of brown looks cheap and dated (like everything from Joe Brown but that’s another conversation).

Try it with cool dusty pink, petrol blue, pure white, and deep emerald green (pick one or two of these, not all at the same time).

lookatallthosechickens · 23/08/2020 10:44

(Sorry that was a mean thing to say about the shop you like. The top you linked is nice. When I think about Joe Brown I picture viscose dresses made of four mismatched floral prints and synthetic cloth coats with 200 buckles and full pleated skirts. I haven’t seen one of their catalogues in a few years so maybe it’s not so bad anymore.
