What do you think of LVL lash lift?

I had this done yesterday and can't believe how crap it is, I can't decide whether it was the fault of the technique of the beautician or whether it's just a load of faff and not worth it.

Basically looks as though I have a tiny amount of mascara on, my lashes have barely changed colour, and the lovely round curl I was expecting isn't there, just looks like they have been bent over a triangle slightly. I get much better results from curling with an old fashioned curler Hmm and this was the look I was expecting really. Looks like a good percentage of lashes were just left out of the process altogether.

Anybody getting this done regularly and loves it/feels it makes all the difference?

I buy lash lift kits off amazon and do my own but I don’t tint.

Yours sounds like poor technique though.

wonderpants · 16/08/2020 11:35

I love mine when they are done, but I don't usually wear makeup. I'm sure the same effect could be had with curlers and mascara.

Try a different salon. I love having mine done, and have really missed not being able to go for the last few months. I’m intrigued how you do your own Fluffy

ferretface · 16/08/2020 11:39

I love it because I often don't wear any other makeup and it helps me look a bit more groomed but it's a subtle look. Doesn't sound like it was a great lift tbh, maybe try with a different technician?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/08/2020 11:39

My DD has had this done maybe 3-4 times , always amazing results but she is blessed with natural long eyelashes anyway .

I would give it a go if mine improve ( my eyelashes are tragic but I've started again on eyelash serum so lets see )

DD has people asking her if she's wearing extensions when she has hers done !

Crimblecrumble1990 · 16/08/2020 11:41

I've had it done and had exactly the same outcome as you OP. Total waste of money!

ArsenicNLace · 16/08/2020 11:42

I love it. Have it done every two months. I have non existent lashes but with LVL they curl & are actually noticeable.

However I have noticed it is a treatment that gets better with time. A couple of weeks after having them done they generally look fantastic. However I do wear mascara as well which certainly hence them.

CremeEggThief · 16/08/2020 11:43

I had mine done once last year and I got lots of positive comments. I don't often wear makeup, including mascara, so I don't know if people who apply mascara every day and/or use eyelash curlers would be as impressed.

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 16/08/2020 11:50

I have mine done regularly, see pic. The curl can take a day or two to come through properly imo.

You need to keep your eyes/eyelashes dry afterwards too ( I think 36-48 hours not sure)

BikeTyson · 16/08/2020 12:08

I’ve only had it done once (just before lockdown so haven’t been able to go back). I really liked the effect. My eyelashes are black so I didn’t really need the tint, but they’re long and straight and don’t hold a curl with eyelash curlers. It lasted a good couple of months too.

I think results are really dependent on your own lashes and the skill of the technician and can probably be a bit hit and miss.

ChequerBoard · 16/08/2020 12:11

Honestly I think it works much better for some people than others. My DD and I have both had LVL by the same (excellent) therapist. DDs results are truly stunning, to the extent that the therapist asked for pictures for her insta page. My results, same process, same therapist were not great, my lashes are too sparse and are don't curl well enough.

I now (well pre lockdown) have false lashes applied, very minimally to achieve a natural LVL style look.

Immigrantsong · 16/08/2020 12:11

The solution for the LVL lift is the same for a lash perm, it's the technique that it different.

Results will vary based on the skillset f the person and it sounds yours didn't do a good job.

It can be very drying and damaging to your lashes esprit done regularly. It can also cause serious issues with your eyes and a patch test needs to be done beforehand.

I personally am not a fan of putting chemicals so close to my eyes.

Avelosa · 16/08/2020 14:44

I’ve had it done numerous times and always found the results varied so much from each person who did it. After a lot of research and reading reviews, I bought this kit www.diablocosmetics.com/products/lash-lift-kit and now do it myself at home. You get different sized pads to use so you can choose the results you want. I’ve done it myself 4 times now and each time gets easier to do!

namitynamechange · 16/08/2020 15:09

stupid question, but what exactly is a lash lift/eyelash perm? Do they basically curl your eyelashes and then set it with chemicals? Because if so thats the sort of thing I think I need (I have long eyelashes but they stick straight out/down and I struggle to curl them). But then I read glue listed as one of the ingrediants in the home kits - why do they need that?

user1493413286 · 16/08/2020 15:13

I love having mine done but I was told it works well for me as I have long eyelashes. I could get the same result with eyelash curlers and mascara but the point for me is that I don’t have to then do all that, plus when I actually do put on mascara it looks really good as it I’ve got false eyelashes

Avelosa · 16/08/2020 16:01

@namitynamechange the glue is used to stick your eyelashes to the lift pad. It’s just false eyelashe glue so it’s not harmful. You put glue on the pad and stick it to your eyelid, then you glue your lashes to the pad so they stay in place while the perm lotion is on

wizzbangfizz · 16/08/2020 16:45

I've had it done twice the first was good, then saw an offer somewhere else and went for it - it was horrendous some of my eyelashes went wonky and stuck up. You need a very good therapist!

vixxo · 16/08/2020 17:03

Had mine done and it was shite. But I've seen better results in others and I always think it looks so much better than extensions.

Immigrantsong · 16/08/2020 17:29

Those of you that apply a lash lift themselves please be careful and aware if how dangerous what you are doing actually is.

This is a treatment for trained staff and extremely dangerous. The beauty industry is highly unregulated.

The solution for lash lifts and lash perms is the same as for hair ones. In other words highly chemical and toxic and best left for professionals to do.

Please read up on this and the potential side effects you are exposing yourselves by applying it on your own.

Perms dry out and can destroy hair. Imagine applying the solution at your eyes and untrained.

I am speechless at hw companies are allowed to sell these kits out to the public.

Please be careful and stay safe.

Ffsseriously · 16/08/2020 18:57

@Immigrantsong i couldnt agree more, a girl at college(beauty therapy) got the solution in a clients eye, the result was not pretty and the damaged eye took weeks to heal. All these do at home treatments of things we need to patch test, doba thorough consultation for contra indications have insurance for etc and people just doing it at home is madness.

LouisBalfour · 16/08/2020 19:03

I have had LVL and was unimpressed.

I've bought a home kit and have had much better results.

Ffsseriously · 16/08/2020 19:47

@LouisBalfour it really is hit and miss about the calibre of the therapist. This is why a lot of therapists myself included really want regulation and the day course therapists to be unable to trade. It is unfair on therapists do do the proper lengthy expensive training AND for clients who end up with poor or dangerous results.

Ffsseriously · 16/08/2020 19:47

*who do, not do do.

SpeckledyHen · 16/08/2020 20:59

Had it done once and never again. Fine for 2 weeks and then on one eye the lashes looked frazzled and started crossing over in all directions . I plucked a few out to try to tidy them up . Awful.
