Refund from hairdresser

So I had my hair coloured and cut on Saturday. It cost me £210 and its not what I asked for at all. I said at the time, it wasn't as light as I wanted and she said it would fade and could go lighter next time and will look different in different lights. I wished I had refused to pay at the time but I just wanted to get out of there, I am 31 weeks pregnant and I had sat there for 4 hours with a mask on. I wrote a complaint to the salon about an hour afterwards from home.

I asked for images.app.goo.gl/232NXZUBpGF9smeu6
And ended up with my hair just brown. You cannot see one blonde highlight in it. If you look at it, it looks like 2 different shades of brown.
They also charged me for a redesign when I only had about 2 inch off my hair?

Anyway I'm waiting to hear back from them as they aren't open till tomorrow. I would be very surprised if they dont offer to redo it but I dont want this, I just want my money back. I'm so angry about it and I dont want to sit there all that time again whilst pregnant. I also dont particularly want the same stylist as its embarrassing.

Do you think its unreasonable to ask for a refund and what do you think the likelihood of getting one is? Thanks

@seensome

It's awful when your hair doesn't turn out as planned, I've complained before and got them to re-do it and got a goodie bag and still wasn't amazed, another time I just thought sod it, lose the money and just go somewhere else with recommendations/good reviews, sometimes going back you still don't get satisfaction.
I'm with you on this tbh. I had a stripy highlights disaster, I told them at the time and they offered to wash it with fairy liquid!!!!! Like holy shit my hair has just been bleached ffs i'm not about to further destroy it with fecking dish washing liquid. Just go somewhere else where they know how to treat hair...

How did it go OP?

lemorella · 12/08/2020 12:53

Years ago my stylist made some sort of mistake in highlighting my fringe and left a very visible bleach line across the middle of my fringe.

She didn't say anything...I think she was hoping I wouldn't notice. I told her I could see a big line of bleach and she called the manager over. He said as I hadn't walked out of the salon they would fix it. Hmm

I said it wouldn't matter if i had walked out or not there was no way I was paying £90 and whether I left or not they would be fixing it. They couldn't fit me in until the next day to correct and it was so awkward sitting there having it done. I voted with my feet and never went back.

You need to be as assertive as possible here (they won't want to admit a crap job). Good hairdressers really are like gold dust. I'm sorry they ruined a pregnancy treat for you.

I hope it went well op

Sorry for the delayed reply, it was a super stressful day yesterday!

So went into the Salon (which was completely empty). When I went in there were 2 receptionists, the manager, the original stylist and the lead stylist. They asked me to complete a complaints form in front of them whilst they all stood watching. They then took it off me to discuss it between themselves. After about 5 minutes, the invited me to join them. It almost felt like an interview!

They told me to sit down whilst the original stylist directly faced me and the other two sat either side. It was very intimidating because I couldn't take anyone with me due to the Covid situation.

The manager started off by asking what exactly was wrong with my hair so I explained it didn't match in any way what I had asked for at the original consultation. So the manager asked the original stylist directly, did you tell (me) that she would be able to obtain this hair colour in one attempt. And do you know what happened... The original stylist lied to both my face and her managers face and mumbled very sheepishly that she had mentioned something about it could end up being darker than what I asked for. Well at this point, I lost it. I said, I am not being called a liar and directly said to the stylist, you did not mention anything in any way about the hair I had asked for being unachievable in one go or darker. She did not respond.

The manager then went on to say, we did realise we charged you wrong for the redesign, it should have been a reshape so we will refund you for this. She then said she had spoken to the salon owner and because of the situation, they would offer a reglaze and another conditioning treatment. So I said, look I'm not happy with that, I didn't get what I thought I was getting when I booked the appointment. The lead stylist also said a reglaze would make it darker not lighter. The manager said, what else can we do then so the stylist said, we could rebleach it but would have to do a strand test. I requested my money back again in which the manager replied that they never give refunds. I asked her to speak to the salon owner again as this is what I wanted but I would allow them to do a strand test and try to sort it if they were confident that they could achieve what I asked for.

So last night the salon owner rang me and said they couldn't rebleach my hair based on the strand test and offered again another glaze and treatment in 6 weeks which I declined as I will be 37 weeks by then. So she then offered half the colour price back (£70). I then basically had to bargain with her and said I would like at least half my money back from the total bill which she agreed on. She has also offered me a treatment if I return to them in the future which I won't. But obviously I won't write an awful review of them now which after the day I had yesterday, I was so ready to do. Overall I feel pretty much happy with the outcome, my hair is okay just not what I asked for. I've certainly learnt some lessons from the whole experience.

Thanks everyone for your support during this!

Jesus, that sounds horrible OP. Like they totally ganged up on you! You're well rid of them and I would personally, leave an honest review.

Juanmorebeer · 13/08/2020 14:19

I think half money back is pretty good, I wouldn't want to go back either OP.

Your hair looks nice at least so not like you need it urgently sorting, still annoying though.

Hairthrowaway · 13/08/2020 14:23

What an unprofessional salon.

I wouldn’t accept a 50% refund. How much would it cost you to get it fixed elsewhere? Overall you may end up out of pocket.

I would still post the review, just keep it brief and factual. Sounds like it was an intimidating environment yesterday.

Crossincontinents · 13/08/2020 14:28

They sound awful. Just keep it factual, to the point and unemotional. Glad you are feeling happier now and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Crossincontinents · 13/08/2020 14:28

Sorry that should say write a review and just keep it factual etc

Hairthrowaway · 13/08/2020 14:29

They risked potentially damaging your hair by bleaching it for no good reason, as overall it looks the same with a red tinge. I reckon the more you wash your hair, the more prominent the red will be.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 13/08/2020 16:17

If bleach is needed to achieve the desired look then that's the OPs decision to make. If the achievement of the design was supposed to come out over the next few weeks, then the hairdresser should have had the conversation. Because none of this happened, it sounds like it was a fuck up to me.

Alongcameacat · 14/08/2020 22:32

Your poor thing.
The salon tried to intimidate you.
Please leave an honest, factual review to prevent them treating other customers the same way.

MadeForThis · 14/08/2020 22:37

I would still leave a review. The situation they created by sitting you down and questioning you 3-1 is totally unprofessional and as a client I would appreciate knowing this.

ShalomToYouJackie · 14/08/2020 22:38

I'd still leave an honest review so other people know what happened. The intimidating meeting sounds awful!
