Refund from hairdresser

So I had my hair coloured and cut on Saturday. It cost me £210 and its not what I asked for at all. I said at the time, it wasn't as light as I wanted and she said it would fade and could go lighter next time and will look different in different lights. I wished I had refused to pay at the time but I just wanted to get out of there, I am 31 weeks pregnant and I had sat there for 4 hours with a mask on. I wrote a complaint to the salon about an hour afterwards from home.

I asked for images.app.goo.gl/232NXZUBpGF9smeu6
And ended up with my hair just brown. You cannot see one blonde highlight in it. If you look at it, it looks like 2 different shades of brown.
They also charged me for a redesign when I only had about 2 inch off my hair?

Anyway I'm waiting to hear back from them as they aren't open till tomorrow. I would be very surprised if they dont offer to redo it but I dont want this, I just want my money back. I'm so angry about it and I dont want to sit there all that time again whilst pregnant. I also dont particularly want the same stylist as its embarrassing.

Do you think its unreasonable to ask for a refund and what do you think the likelihood of getting one is? Thanks

Ditto Pet8 where the hell do you live? Just the blowdry costs 35 where I am!

Amber0685 · 10/08/2020 13:01

Same here @lemonsandlimes123

AdoreTheBeach · 10/08/2020 13:05

OP

I get it. Ask for the refund it for them to put right. Not a professional just someone who had brown hair who had highlight and lowlights in the past. Yes, they achieved what you asked for and it dies sound as though the glaze they put in was too dark. Glaze does fade though so perhaps that wasn’t the correct product either as it will fade and you will have too bright highlights if they took the colour to be very, very light.

Best of luck

avobath · 10/08/2020 13:06

Definitely go back and get it fixed, although a glaze should only be semi permanent so a few washes and it would probably go a lot lighter without the use of extra bleach.

Pet8 · 10/08/2020 13:12

Independent salon in North West.
I'm so lucky. She's amazing. The parking costs almost as much!
@IveHadEnoughNowArgh @Cosmos45 @lemonsandlimes

TokyoSushi · 10/08/2020 13:15

Hmm, that's definitely not what you asked for, interested to see what they say!

Whoopsmahoot · 10/08/2020 13:44

Scotland - full highlights cut and blow dry £60. Did a good job too.

JMAngel1 · 10/08/2020 16:42

@Pet8. ooooh which salon in NW? anywhere near Manchester?

Palavah · 10/08/2020 16:45

Ask them to fix it or refund. I wouldn't call the photo you asked for 'blonde' but from the photo you've taken of your hair they haven't got it right.
£210 is a lot.
Did you pay by credit card?

pincushion91 · 10/08/2020 16:54

Yes paid by credit card.

OP posts:
Palavah · 10/08/2020 17:22

In that case if it comes down to it you can ask your card issuer for a section 75 refund but it would be better to try ro resolve amicably with the salon first

lindyloo57 · 10/08/2020 17:27

Pet8 I can beat that, my local hairdressers charges £32 for highlights wash cut and blow dry, don't know what the price is now after covid, I haven't been since January.

Hairthrowaway · 10/08/2020 18:43

To be fair the photo you showed as a goal isn’t blonde. It’s brown with lighter brown areas. However your hair looks nothing like it.

If you don’t get anywhere with the salon file a chargeback or S75 claim with your bank

Hairthrowaway · 10/08/2020 18:44

Contrary to popular belief you don’t need to contact the merchant for a S75 claim. You would for a chargeback as it’s supposed to be a last resort.

Aworldofmyown · 10/08/2020 18:49

She is right though, you had it bleached first so those parts will fade quite quickly with washing. She may have allowed for that when she chose the colour of the glaze. Otherwise you would very quickly end up with hair that just looks highlighted.

SoupDragon · 10/08/2020 18:57

Why do people always feel the need to come on these threads and express their apparent incredulity at the amount the OP as paid and then "boast that they only pay thruppence ha'penny for theirs?

Anyway, definitely pester this, OP. Hopefully they will offer a refund.

pincushion91 · 11/08/2020 17:58

So no one replied to my email today so I ended up ringing the manager at lunch time. She was very neutral on the phone, didn't apologise but was friendly enough. She said she would have to speak to the hairdresser to see what she has done and get back to me which she has. She has phoned and asked for me to come in tomorrow at 2.30pm so they can look at it.

I'm assuming that means her and the original hairdresser. It's going to be very awkward and I dont want the same hairdresser to do it if they offer to fix it. I'm not confident she will do what I ask now.
To be honest, I would still rather go somewhere else all together and get a refund from them!

Hairthrowaway · 11/08/2020 19:02

As you paid by card, you sort of have an “ace “ - regardless of what they’re like tomorrow, you can still go to your bank for a refund, you’re not stuck.

Personally I’ve had to complain before they were a bit unwelcoming/awkward when I went to get it fixed, so I can see why you might be hesitant.

ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 11/08/2020 20:00

I initially thought I'd feel awkward going back too. But then realised if someone at my work asked me to change something because it wasn't what they were hoping for I'd just think fine and redo it.

So probably not as big a deal for the stylist as it is for you.

LynetteScavo · 11/08/2020 20:08

Don't feel awkward. It didn't turn out how you wanted so they should put it right.

The same happened to me year ago and it was only because a friend met me at the salon when I was paying and said "your hair looks no different" that I had the confidence to say I couldn't see a change in the colour and they did it again the following Saturday - and the second time I could see a change in the colour. I doubt they will just give you a refund though. See what the manager says, but what ever you do don't feel awkward. You have every right to expect to have your hair done properly for the amount you paid.

pincushion91 · 12/08/2020 06:35

I've come up with key points to bring up today-

The prices are incorrect on their website. For example the ombre glaze part on their website is £35.50 and I was charged £59.50

At the consulation I was not told the price, no was I told of the price on consultation email following which said everything I was having done

What I have had done has not achieved what I asked for and I was never informed that what I asked for was unachievable in one go

Having 2 inch off hair is not a redesign

I'm not willing to sit pregnant for another few hours to have it fixed.

I am willing to pay for standard cut and for the vitaplex treatment and that is it.

Hope I can be strong enough to keep to this today!

GrannyBags · 12/08/2020 06:47

Well done for getting your key points sorted before you go OP. Good luck - we will all be thinking of you!

PatchworkElmer · 12/08/2020 06:52

Good luck!

seensome · 12/08/2020 09:46

It's awful when your hair doesn't turn out as planned, I've complained before and got them to re-do it and got a goodie bag and still wasn't amazed, another time I just thought sod it, lose the money and just go somewhere else with recommendations/good reviews, sometimes going back you still don't get satisfaction.

Cosmos45 · 12/08/2020 10:00

@Pet8 - do you know, when I am finished with the rat race of working life in the South it is a major consideration to move further north. I know our hairdressers have to pay rent/rates etc but everything is sooo expensive here.

OP, I hope you get it all sorted out today.
