Shorts for chunky legs...

wibblewibble · 10/08/2020 09:45

Does anyone have any ideas? I’m a short size 16 with chunky legs/knees but would love some sort of shorts for a camping holiday. Usually lots of floaty dresses or linen trousers but want something more practical/outdoorsy. Thank you!

Either denim shorts or gap chino shorts, and not too long.

wibblewibble · 10/08/2020 10:13

Thanks. Any specific denim short recommends? Tried the hush ones and a couple of other last week but the legs were too tight.

I am smilar and I wear skirts instead. Managed to find a short pair of culottes, like a flowery short skirt but divided iyswim. They look really nice and slimming. Denim shorts look horrible on anyone without slim brown legs imo and I find them hot and uncomfortable.

Imtoooldforallthis · 10/08/2020 10:36

Not particularly, had all my denim shorts for years, matalan might be worth, a try, or next.

Imtoooldforallthis · 10/08/2020 10:39

These might be worth a try.

Thank you. @BoxhillBertha any ideas where your culottes were from? Sounds ideal

City shorts may work better for you.

BigFatBloomers · 10/08/2020 12:34

I never look at Dorothy Perkins for anything anymore but, in the past, they have had a really good, flattering shorts selection

Sorry, but i bought them from a vintage shop last year! I love them. If you find anything similar I'd love to know. City shorts are awful imo.

AriettyHomily · 10/08/2020 12:50

Next chino shorts and not the knee length ones the shorter ones, I'm a 16 and it has taken a long time to realise that the shorter ones are actually more flattering.

Ellapaella · 10/08/2020 12:52

Shorter shorts are definitely more flattering.

Weatherwax · 10/08/2020 12:54

I bought the loveliest, most comfortable denim shorts from Mantaray in Debenhams. I am living in them this summer. I had to buy a second pair!

BoxhillBertha · 10/08/2020 13:31

These are nice, I'd have bought these if any sizes left Sad

shorts

BoxhillBertha · 10/08/2020 13:33

Or
these but i don't like them as much

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/08/2020 13:36

Go for anything that looks A-line to accommodate thighs. Also, if you’re planning on doing a lot of walking, beware of rolled-up denim shirts! The turn-up generally has rough seams right where your thighs touch and they rub painfully.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/08/2020 13:36

FFS. Shorts, not shirts!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 10/08/2020 13:40

Example A line - look at the thighs and choose ones where the model has plenty of thigh room! www.asos.com/allsaints/allsaints-hannah-paperbag-denim-shorts-in-washed-black/prd/14728252?colourwayid=16639466&SearchQuery=&cid=9263
Ignore the price on these. Much cheaper versions are available!

Mrskeelersbitch · 10/08/2020 13:42

Next boy shorts, I bought some based on MN recommendations last year. First shorts I have worn since my teenage years, very flattering.

Shayisgreat · 10/08/2020 13:44

I am living in linen shorts from M&S at the moment. I've fairly thick thighs and these are very comfortable.

Awesome - thank you for all the ideas. Currently wrangling children but will look later.

H&M have relaxed denim ones that are also a tad stretchy.

I have found the best shorts from Morrisons & Peacocks suprisingly. Both around £12 a pair.

I like a soft thin floaty material, so I dont get hot, they wash nicely and mainly because I have to have an elasticated waist.

I cannot stand buttons around my stomach anymore. They are not what everyone likes, but I wear a black T.shirt & black flip flops with them mainly.

Never ever ever ever go too long, you will look like a boy scout. Short shorts are much better for the leg!
