Sunscreen for under make up

Hi all,

Can I please have some recommendations for the best sunscreen to use under make up, minimum 30SPF. I’m struggling to find something that doesn’t cause break outs, doesn’t cause skin tints/foundations to ball up and sit badly or leave a chalky residue or cost a fortune to use on a daily basis. I suppose the other alternative may be a primer with a decent SPF.

Which sunscreens work for you And don’t affect your make up?

I’m using Unseen Sunscreen. Goes on like a primer under make up. No chalkiness, no residue. Have tried lots of different ones as I’m very pale and hate the sun and now wouldn’t use anything else. Would be nice to dip myself in a bath of it with the weather this week.

Either Laura Mercier primer with spf (but think it might only be 20spf), or Glossier Invisible Shield 30spf - goes on like a serum & dries into a lovely smoothing Matt finish.

I’m following this because I need something similar but ideally something that doesnt make you sweat.

I have been looking into something like this myself and wondering about Clinique's City Block. Anyone tried it?

I think there are loads of elegant sunscreens out there these days even at 50SPF. I am currently using Eucerin oil control. Would be good to know what you have already tried

Biore Watery Essence

Another Biore Watery Essence fan.
It’s a great primer, my foundation actually looks better over this.

I use Jan Marini. It is spf 45 but can only label spfs as '30' or '50' under EU rules so it says 30 if you buy it here. I can never get them pale enough but prefer a slight tint or it can look white. I often don't wear foundation with it but it works well with foundation. Very expensive though. I have tried others but keep going back to it. Will try the biore watery essence I think. I have melasma so v important for me to use a physical block (as well as a chemical block).

Ah, it's only a chemical spf. Not right for me. Shame!!

Clinique Even better dark spot defenders is good, and Heliocare face fluid. I also get melasma and these provide a physical block. Eucerin one is not a block but is a good sensitive one and good for dry skin. Otherwise maybe a bit thick for under makeup.

Biore watery essence is the best

Definitely the Biore watery essence. You don’t even know it’s there. It’s a Japanese sunscreen so if you order from Amazon it may take a while to arrive but sites that specialise in Korean skincare such as Yesstyle can ship much quicker

Interesting - Heliocare was too dark for me (or too white if not tinted) but will give Clinique a whirl. Thanks! (Melasma is such a pain...!)

Another vote for Biore watery essence, it's very light and spf 50! Great and non greasy under makeup. Basically any Asian sunscreen.
I also like Purito comfy essence as it's a physical sunscreen spf 50 not chemical like most. Purito has no white cast either.
I buy mostly from YesStyle or sometimes Amazon. Just put what I want into google and look for where it's cheaper. Just look out for delivery times.

I swear by Clinique City Block, stops my melasma from getting as dark in the summer.

Clinique city block which is tinted or purito from yesstyle is lovely and light. Takes a while to ship though.

Yet another Watery Essence fan. I'd been using La Roche Posay for a few years but now I've tried WE and I'm a total convert. It sinks in so quickly that you genuinely don't feel it at all once it's on. A dream to apply. Foundation sits very well on top, no greasiness. LRP is good but this is better, for sure.

I'm using E Lauder Perfectionist Pro which I like as it's all mineral and no nasty chemicals or Ultrasun for face spf 50.

Yes, these two are great.

LRP gave both me and DH rashes. Sorry but I don't get on with them.

Ultrasun (Swiss company) is better and they do several types for face.

I use city block and it’s amazing. I’ve tried lots that are thick and sweaty or cause spots but this one is perfect
