Shit hair cut post lockdown and now paying for a second cut

Hair appointment canceled week of lockdown so has been 6 months since I last had it cut. Decided to try a new salon as previous one getting more and more expensive (although very good). New salon still not cheap £48 for cut and blow dry. It's shit, really shit, looked better 6 months over grown. So now have to slink back to my old salon tomorrow with tail between my disloyal legs and pay £58 for another cut.

Any other post lockdown hair disappointments?

OK just read that back "disloyal legs" makes me sound like a woman with questionable morals Hmm

Yeah I asked for my curly hair to be cut below my chin. I have cheekbone length layers Sad

labyrinthloafer · 04/08/2020 20:04

I keep seeing threads about bad haircuts after lockdown, do you think it is because people are basically having restyles?

Don't worry about your old hairdresser, just say you were desperate to get it chopped for a work thing or something.

BadDucks · 04/08/2020 20:30

I have seen a few threads too. I'm wondering if the face visors are distorting their vision! It less that it's not the style that I wanted its just simply a bad cut. It feels like a frumpy mum hair do, even my babyliss big hair; which is the stuff of miracles hasn't helped me style it.

I'm sure the hairdresser will be fine about it, she can smirk smugly behind her face mask.

Mine's not marvellous either. not a terrible cut, but a good 2 inches shorter than I wanted. I reckon they're all wildly overestimating how much the average customer's hair has grown in lockdown.

BadDucks · 04/08/2020 20:38

Yeah she took about 3 inches off which has put in the ball park of too long for an edgy bob but too short for swishy lob. Should probably just order a waterfall cardigan from Littlewoods and be done with it.

OP posts:
TheTurnOfTheScrew · 04/08/2020 20:40

yes, that's me too. Too long for a lob, to short to be proper long hair. Just a mumsy shoulder-length. Urgh.

LizzieBennett70 · 04/08/2020 20:45

My colleague goes to the top stylist in a local upmarket hairdresser, and has done for over 10 years so they know her hair. It was £80 for a cut and blow dry. She went last week and looks like her hair has been butchered........ I don't think she can see how bad it is at the back, and I'm not brave enough to tell her Hmm

It's ridiculous trying to cut hair with all that PPE on. I'm not overly happy with mine either, so I've cancelled my next appointment and will wait until this Covid madness is over to go again.

BadDucks · 04/08/2020 21:02

Hmm interesting I wonder if I can ask the hairdresser to wear a normal face mask and not full visor? God if it's still shit after a second cut I'm going to weep!

I have had his happen with a hair colour last week! They messed me up then could only do remedial work to make it acceptable.
I’ve raised a formal (and rather detailed) complaint with their HQ (a franchise).
If I don’t get my money back I’ll post my complaint on every single review site from here to Timbuktu, with photos!
My point is... complain, request a refund and of not they deserve an online review.

Hair is not cheap. When they don’t listen to you and it goes wrong, it’s just not good enough.

Beachlovingirl · 04/08/2020 21:23

I also have friends who were so excited to get their hair cut and then so deflated when they actually thought their lockdown hair looked better.
Do you think the hair salons have told their staff to expect a second wave and therefore cut double off to last through that?
I have not been back to the salon and currently very happy with my ice blonde box dye and my mum trimming the ends of my hair - and my trust revlon one step so make it all look swishy and nice. Unless what’s actually happened as I’ve just got a skewed view of myself and my hair looks crap but I can’t tell. Grin

TableNiner · 04/08/2020 22:23

I was a bit disappointed with mine but figured it was partly the build up/wait and the fact it had to be the best haircut ever in case I couldn't get in again for months. It was also her first day back. I also have a slightly frumpy bob, normally it's higher at the back. Its still better than the droopy look I had before

Tatapie · 04/08/2020 22:32

@BadDucks you made me laugh with the waterfall cardigan!
@TheTurnOfTheScrew this is my fear and yet it's very confusing; there's sleek bob, stylish lob, & lovely long hairstyles and yet somewhere in the midst is also mumsy nothingy hairConfused

MadisonAvenue · 04/08/2020 22:37

Mine’s not brilliant either. I have quite long hair, just past my shoulders, with layers which I love but after my post-lockdown cut the layers aren’t falling right and it feels and looks frumpy. It’s not far off a grown out ‘Rachel’ within an hour of it being styled.

BadDucks · 04/08/2020 22:51

I specified no layers for that reason MadisonAvenue but I have very thick hair so I do need weight taking out of it which she hasn't done so the ends are thick and blunt and too heavy to style. I did ask for some layers around the face otherwise tends to lay heavy but all I appear to have is a couple of whispy bits at the front.

I've had to take the curling iron to it everyday for a week just to make it a bit more stylish - which is a pain in the arse cause it's so thick and takes me about 30 minutes to do.

Same here. Way shorter than normal at my own hairdresser. Even after I showed her a picture of how she did my hair last time and told her how happy I was with it Confused

Fallsballs · 04/08/2020 23:12

Mine turned me ginger with a frizzy triangle/clown cut. I wanted blonde highlights and a lob. I am so pissed off and I’ve been going to her for 5 years, it’s absolutely shit condition too. No idea wtf happened.
I’m changing hairdressers.
I’ll order a waterfall cardigan too, green or orange ?

BadDucks · 04/08/2020 23:19

I think for traditional frump it has to be powder blue or pink Fallsballs

BlessYourCottonSocks · 04/08/2020 23:23

This has reassured me!

I've had the same hairdresser for several years and she always does a great job and my hair is so easy to style. I was desperate for a haircut and it's been bloody awful this time. She made an absolute pigs ear of it. Wonder if it was the visor?

backinthebox · 04/08/2020 23:23

My son is devastated by his haircut and reckons the hairdressers had so much time off they are out of practice. He will be going for another haircut as soon as his badly-shorn locks are long enough.

Feminist10101 · 04/08/2020 23:25

Hair appointment canceled week of lockdown so has been 6 months since I last had it cut.

Eh? Lockdown 16 March. 6 months would be mid-September......

Estrellente · 04/08/2020 23:26

Maybe a combination of the PPE and also just the fact that they haven’t cut hair in months??

Fallsballs · 04/08/2020 23:27

I’ll go for pink BadDucks, for the sexy colour clash.

dinodiva · 05/08/2020 06:24

Same happened to me. My regular hairdresser left the salon so I got put with another, much more junior one. I wanted a lot cut off which I got, but no shaping whatsoever, so my very thick hair is now a big triangle. The balayage is also not as good as I’m used to. I’m bored of continually having shit hair!

dafodilsunflower · 05/08/2020 06:58

I've been going to my hairdresser for about 4 years.

She said the visor was a bit uncomfortable but I've been pleased with my cut and colour.

I don't know if that will reassure anyone going for their first cut.
