H&M and their recommended size....

Theunhappybunny · 02/08/2020 15:00

I’ve just ordered a few dresses from H&M.
Only after I’d put the order through I realised they did ‘recommended sizing’. So I put my measurements in and it turns out all the dresses I’ve bought are likely to be two sizes too small 😕

How accurate is their measurement thingy?
I’m usually a 14 (though currently losing weight). I have massive boobs though, 34H.
I ordered the dresses in a size 14, it’s telling me my size should be more like an 18.

They’re not going to fit me are they?

I find it accurate for a size 10. I ignored it’s advice to size down in some baggier jeans recently and had to order again. As a member it’s free delivery and returns so not too much of a pain.

MulberryPeony · 02/08/2020 15:15

You’ve really got to check the reviews for every item unfortunately.

thismeansnothing · 02/08/2020 15:16

I find their sizing bizzare at best. I'm a 12/14 but currently sat in a size 16 boyfriend cut jeans. Dread to think what size is need for skinny fit 😳

Theunhappybunny · 02/08/2020 15:23

That’s the thing, I checked the reviews and only ordered size 14 where people said it was very roomy.
I’d heard that H&M had improved their sizing recently so I thought I’d be ok with my normal size (they used to be ridiculously tiny!)

I really think it’s because of my boobs I’m being recommended a size 18 😔
When it came to skirts and trousers it recommended a 14

I’d never ever buy jeans from them again! They can keep their ridiculously sized teeny tiny denim!

I reckon it’ll be okay then. I can often fit in an XS/6 blouse when I’m an 8-10 other places.

TableNiner · 02/08/2020 20:29

I think H&M is fairly true to size, maybe on the larger size if anything although always depends on style of the dress

clockoclock · 02/08/2020 20:34

H&M is true to size.......other shops especially British ones like M&S and Next sizing is huge (major vanity sizing going on!!)

Londonmummy66 · 02/08/2020 20:37

I'm a 34 F and need size 18 on top from H&M I'm afraid - I think that they cut corners by designing for a fairly small busted size 8/10 and simply scale up not thinking that larger ladies might still be narrow across the back but fuller of cup - this stupid idea that the average woman is 34-36 B.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 02/08/2020 21:24

I used to think there sizing was on the small side. but lately I've found things too big and had to re-order a smaller size.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 02/08/2020 21:25

their not there

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 02/08/2020 21:27

H&M sizing is bonkers. I am a 12 top in most places which equates to an H&M XL Hmm Yet DD is an 8 in most places and wears an XS.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 02/08/2020 21:28

Agree with LondonMummy- I'm 34D.

Eeeeeeeok · 02/08/2020 21:39

I find most of h&m sizing small. So order bigger sizes. But it does change per item unfortunately.

Kittywampus · 02/08/2020 21:48

They changed their sizing a couple of years ago. I used to need a 12-14 there or size medium. Now I easily fit into size 10 or small. You also get the odd item which is ridiculously huge or tiny. Sometimes if you buy two of the same item they are different sizes.

Theunhappybunny · 02/08/2020 22:22

Thanks everyone... really not holding out much hope!

Anyone know a good shop that will cater for my giant bust? I’m so fed up of clothes shopping... Nothing ever fits me! Unless I size up and then I just look like I’m wearing a baggy tent 🙄

Bravissimo stock clothing that you can adjust according to your figure as well as dress size.

CallarMorvern · 02/08/2020 22:31

I'm a 32f/34e (size 12/14) and wear their medium T-shirts, I have a size 6/8 sweater dress that fits me (the last time I wore something with a 6 on the label I was age 6!), I wear 14 M&S trousers, but have a pair of 12 H&M trousers. DD is 14 too and has H&M jeans in size 14. 🤷

Theunhappybunny · 03/08/2020 09:06

It really is crazy, I’ve never known a shop to have such discrepancies in their sizing.
I stopped shopping with them for this very reason, I only used them this time as they’d apparently sorted out the sizes.

I’m never an 18 anywhere else 🤔 I know vanity sizing comes into it but I’m 5.4 and 10.5 stone, I can’t see how that equates to a size 18.

I’ve looked at bravissimo before, they have a very small range and I was overly keen on much of it..

I always find H&M come up big. I am a chubby 14 but often fit into their size 12 clothes. guess it depends on what cut you are going for.

thedevilinablackdress · 03/08/2020 14:17

If it fits, I don't care what it says on the label. The inconsistency is annoying if you're buying online of course.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 03/08/2020 15:38

I like H&M, but their sizing is all over the place. Sometimes I'm a size 4 (!) in their dresses, sometimes I'm a size 12 in their tops.

leolion1 · 03/08/2020 15:49

I've recently started ordering from H&M after avoiding them for years because of dodgy sizing, I've been pleasantly surprised by how accurate everything I've ordered has been size wise. I always ignore the measurement thing and go off reviews, although I dont have boobs to factor into account tbh Grin they are good with delivery and free returns so don't worry.

loutypips · 03/08/2020 16:21

H&M is not true to size! You have to size up 2 or even 3 from your usual size. I usually wear a 14 and have had to go to 18 or 20 which I then won't buy as it makes me feel crap.
Such a shame as the kids clothes are a good fit. And tiny adult sizes it seems.

TDMN · 03/08/2020 16:29

I am a 12 and have always had to buy a 14 from H&M, even when i was a 10, as I have an E cup. I dont buy anything that does have stretch in like their polyester wrap dresses as have learmt from bitter experience that they will gape no matter what size!!
Boob friendly brands - ASOS generally pretty good (they do actually do a fuller bust clothing range too) Fatface depending on the style...
Tbh i've given up on brands and I just only buy clothing with stretch in now, anything without stretch looks tent-like on me because clothing brands all seem to be cut for B cups despite the majority of women I know bigger than that!

MilkshakeandFries · 03/08/2020 16:34

I agree with the poster who says it's so all over the place with sizing. I wear an 8 in H&M or an XS in their dresses but a 12 in their jeans.
It's totally random.
