H&M and their recommended size....

I’ve just ordered a few dresses from H&M.
Only after I’d put the order through I realised they did ‘recommended sizing’. So I put my measurements in and it turns out all the dresses I’ve bought are likely to be two sizes too small 😕

How accurate is their measurement thingy?
I’m usually a 14 (though currently losing weight). I have massive boobs though, 34H.
I ordered the dresses in a size 14, it’s telling me my size should be more like an 18.

They’re not going to fit me are they?

I think this the last time I will be ordering from them if they don’t fit... online shopping is a pain at the best of times, never mind when you don’t have a clue what size to order 😕
I do think it’s my bust that’s causing the problems though, as usual 🙄 I feel like a freak most of the time! Nobody caters for women like me! I want to be a bit more fitted, but it’s seems to be impossible. I have a fairly smallish waist, how do I dress nicely when I need to buy clothes two sizes bigger just to fit over my boobs?

Maybe I’ll look into surgery again 😞

It might be worth looking into getting some of your clothes tailored (instead of yourself!). I often have to do that with jeans and trousers due to wide hips/small waist.

The issue I have with H&M clothes is shrinkage - my teenage DD got some T-shirts which shrunk after washing (cool wash, not tumble dried) so now look more like crop tops! A shame as they were nice tops.

I buy most of my clothes from them and usually wear a 12 however I don't have an impressive pair of breasts Grin I do find the recommended size is always right. Also read the reviews as they are always a good insight.

I have to pick and choose who I order from to fit both my bust and waist.

I find fatface, and sometimes white stuff good for more casual wear and then phase eight and hobbs for work stuff.

I do have to pick and choose though - belted dresses are a favourite of mine, or I have some good ones from fatface with a back made of a nice sort of ruched elastic fabric. I am essentially buying stuff where I can create the differential in waist size. I do also take stuff in at the waist sometimes if I need to: I just put a couple of double ended darts into the back usually. I also generally buy dresses where the hip size doesn't matter so I am only working to get 2 parts to fit, not 3.

The places I buy from are expensive but I always buy in the sale or second hand, and generally my clothes hang a lot better when they're cut well, which I find is more likely somewhere more expensive.

Agree that H&M are all over the place, glad it's not just me! I am usually a 10 and could barely get their size 12 jeans above my knees a few months ago, let alone buttoned up. Randomly I've recently found one style of jeans they do (slim fit, Embrace line) that fits me perfectly in a 10. I think with them it's less about the blanket size and more that each item is cut for a certain body shape.
