What colour goes with royal blue tops?

Doesn’t seem to work with blue jeans. Black kills the colour. Navy doesn’t look right.
If I had royal blue trousers or skirt I would wear with white tops as I think that really works, but i wouldnt wear white On my bottom half.
How do I make my royal blue jumpers and tops work for me? The colour looks really good on me but just don’t seem to be able to wear them

Hot pink.

MrsFionaCharming · 01/08/2020 13:33

For work I’d go with grey trousers. Not sure about casually.

backseatcookers · 01/08/2020 13:36

Coral works really nicely with royal blue.

JesskerM · 01/08/2020 13:38

Camel?

pickingdaisies · 01/08/2020 13:48

Nearly black or very dark denim jeans?

SatanicDesk · 01/08/2020 13:55

Dark mustard, camel or ecru... or maybe a natural coloured linen?

MoltonSilver · 01/08/2020 13:55

Lighter denim?

If you layer your jumper over a white top you could probably wear it with almost anything in the bottom.

More royal blue works.

Sorry, I didn't mean to post that twice!

Fanthorpe · 01/08/2020 14:00

Interestingly I think it’s the camel colour in that photo that makes the royal blue work.

DottyWott · 01/08/2020 14:03

I think black works really well. Makes the bright blue stand out.

DianaT1969 · 01/08/2020 14:08

Type 'hex royal blue' into Google. Scroll down and you'll see all the complementary colours. They include dark sand, hot pink, blue-turquoise, green-turquoise and a clear rust.

Tatapie · 01/08/2020 14:25

Burgundy looks great in winter. White or emerald in the summer.

Budapestpest · 01/08/2020 15:01

Thanks, I’ll look at all these suggestions. Im a “winter” so I have nothing like camel or sand in my wardrobe as they’re warmer colours but I could see how those would work.
Bright pink or green could work but I’m not sure that wearing 2 bright strong colours together is really me, I’ve been trying to find a neutral to go with the blue.

I’m also confused why it doesn’t work with navy. I really like tonal dressing, For example strong pink looks great with dark pink or burgundy so I can’t work out why bright blue doesn’t work with navy but it doesn’t seem to

I'm a winter and I'd wear dark blue jeans, or white, cream/beige, pale pink, grey or one of the complementary colours mentioned above. The lighter colours are more summery.

blosstree · 01/08/2020 15:10

I would go with a light blue denim for casual, light grey trousers/skirt might work for smart.

I do think camel would go well too, if you wanted to try something different!

blosstree · 01/08/2020 15:12

I do agree though that indigo/black jeans don't really go with royal blue/navy. Don't really know why, it just seems to all blend together. Strange how it doesn't happen when wearing all black

MoltonSilver · 01/08/2020 15:15

I think you can do navy if you bring in a third colour somewhere.

OneKeyAtATime · 01/08/2020 15:26

White?

Tatapie · 02/08/2020 07:02

Pale ice blue/ pale silver grey would contrast enough but still look tonal.
The emerald will work and not be too lairy if you add a bit of white.

Catapultme · 02/08/2020 08:15

charcoal grey?

evilharpy · 02/08/2020 11:27

I have a couple of royal blue tops that I do wear with navy - I might have to rethink that Grin also wear them with sand coloured trousers and olive chinos which sounds awful but looks ok.

I saw a photo on pinterest of someone wearing a royal blue t shirt with mustard trousers, it looked great on her but would be too bright for me.

I have a pair of royal blue trousers that I wear with white tops, it's much easier that way round.

Elllllle · 02/08/2020 11:33

White denim skirt or khaki jeans
